Enough of singing by the bras at the back of Marks and Spencer. Enough of sacrificing her mental health in pursuit of a dream. Intertwining Lucy’s experiences as an award-winning opera singer with the stories of Valentina Tereshkova (the first woman in space) and Valentina Ponomaryova (almost the first woman in space), It is I, Seagull is a hilarious exploration of self-esteem, joy, failure, opera and space travel. Fusing opera and comedy, Lucy exposes current and historical everyday sexism to ask what it takes to achieve something extraordinary, and is it worth it?

The Feeling (of knowing something is wrong, but it isn't)
A family struggles in silence under the pressure of parenthood, micro-aggressions and a series of never ending medical appointments. “The Feeling” has been devised by a female and non-binary creative team, alongside 100’s of voices across a large spectrum of people and cultures across Southampton. Built into the script is verbatim and real stories from a series of focus groups including: men, the LGBTQ+ community, those who have suffered with infertility, young people going through puberty and women going through or who have been through menopause. At its core the play is a cry for help from a community of voices who have felt at any one time silenced. A question as to how we can change this culture of silence by tackling shame within our education systems, medical systems and peer/family groups. We aim to increase understanding around female reproductive health care and LGBTQ+ health care inequities, as well as generate discussion around the language and reform we can use to make healthcare in Southampton and England not just accessible, but equal to all. Following the 2pm performance there will be a Q&A with stakeholders, policymakers, community members, including young people (14-25 yrs) from Southampton to collectively discuss how we can support female reproductive health & LGBTQ+ healthcare for future generations. Please reserve your ticket at checkout. Supported by the Propel Associate Artist Scheme at Mayflower Studios, Southampton Institute of Arts and Humanities, LifeLab and Young Southampton (UKSPF).

For Nick Steen’s imagination is bursting out of his brain and threatening to burst in turn the entirety of Stalkford. Can Nick stop the aforesaid bursting? Or have things already slightly burst regardless? And will there ultimately be a grand finale to this three-book series (aka a trilogy) or a more open-ended conclusion in order to leave potential room for further sequels? (That, btw, will ultimately be Garth’s decision.) From the fevered imaginata of Horror Fiction’s Grand Frightener Garth Marenghi, author of Sunday Times Bestselling Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome and Garth Marenghi’s Incarcerat, come three freshly rancid tales of… …This Bursted Earth…
