The incredible ‘Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’ have announced more tour dates and West End shows throughout 2025! Spontaneous musical comedy at its finest, this is the first ever long-form improv show to have a full West End run and to be nominated and win an Olivier Award. The pilot of Hopping, a new comedy from Lucy Trodd and Susan Harrison, aired on BBC Radio 4 and Matt Cavendish appeared on this year’s Royal Variety Performance with Mischief Theatre's ‘A Comedy About Spies’. Co-founder Adam Meggido directed the West End and Broadway hit show Peter Pan Goes Wrong. The Showstoppers have performed created more than 1,000 brand new musicals since they were formed in 2008 but they don’t stop working hard at their craft – they have to learn to improvise in the style of every hit show that comes to town, and they always encourage audiences to challenge them and keep them on their toes. As a result, they continue fill theatres, delight audiences and win awards. In 2024 they were in the Top 10 best reviewed shows of entire Edinburgh Fringe – for the second year running - no mean feat in their 15th year selling out the Pleasance Grand once more!
Colchester Rock Choir

Colchester Rock Choir

21 Jan 2026 - 18 Mar 2026

If you are wanting to find a choir you'll find a happy place with us in the Rock Choir. The Colchester Rock Choir is led by local vocal tutor Adam Henriksen. The local men and women who have joined the choir who live in Colchester and further afield in Essex come from all walks of life and most had no singing experience or ever thought their singing journey would ever take them on TV or radio (not compulsory). Once you join the choir you will find you learn the songs by rote from a brilliant set of resources and you will be amazed how quickly you go from 'not sure' to 'performance ready'. The songs are uniquely arranged by Rock Choir founder Caroline Redman Lusher to make songs easy to sing yet still challenge you in places. Rock Choir offers the chance to sing pop, rock and Motown songs together in a comfortable, unauditioned way. There are 10+ rehearsals a term and any commitment you make will fit nicely around the main holiday times in the year.
Mark Steel - The Leopard in my House
"The consultant had told me he was confident I had throat cancer that had spread into the lymph glands. Joyfully, I held his hand, and looked up to the heavens like a South American footballer after scoring a goal. It was one of the happiest moments of my life." Join multi award-winning, BAFTA-nominated writer and comedian Mark Steel for his new tour ‘The Leopard in My House'. The topic? His battle with throat cancer. A battle he is winning (thankfully) and which only his rapier wit could fashion a comedy tour show out of. Cancer has done nothing to dull Mark's acute political observations or quash his "frankly bonkers" energy: you will laugh, you will cry, but you'll laugh again, and again, and again. The Leopard in My House is proof that this leftie, working-class, Radio 4 favourite truly deserves his place in the UK comedy pantheon. Mark Steel is best known for his critically-acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel's in Town (now in its 13th series), as well as his hit podcast What The F★★★ Is Going On.?. He has presented the BAFTA-nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC Two, and is a regular on BBC One's Have I Got News for You and BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz. He has also written several acclaimed books, including an adaptation of his critically acclaimed stand-up show Who Do I Think I Am? for Audible.

29 Jan 2026 - 5 Nov 2026

The Four Horsemen of Rising Crime, Global Warming, AI and Culture Wars are galloping towards us. Are we on the road to hell? And can we avoid the potholes? In his brand new tour show 'Fair Cop' Alfie has the antidote to the breakdown of law and order, fake news and the price of baked beans. Somewhere in a parallel universe little Alfie’s natural comedic performance skills were recognised by his doting parents who encouraged and developed his blossoming talent. After several years as a stage school brat Alfie’s angelic face was launched on stage and screen and the rest is history. Meanwhile, in this universe Alfie Moore was told to stop messing about in class before being ‘encouraged’ into the grinding, grimy world of an apprenticeship in the Sheffield steelworks. When recession hit he traded steel for copper by joining Humberside Police. In his 40s the two universes collided when Alfie made a bid for showbiz success – but unfortunately 30 years of shift-work and being punched in the face quite a lot, had left him with ‘a face for radio’. A face not so much ‘lived in’ as inhabited by a settlement of squatters with little regard to property maintenance and repair.

A Mercury Original in association with Frantic Assembly, supported by Eleanor Lloyd Productions. "It does not matter what is true, or not true. All that matters is what is written down." Essex, 1643. A country divided. A town on it's knees. A teenage girl with a dangerous secret. As the Civil War rages on, in the quiet town of Manningtree, most of the men have gone off to fight, leaving the women to run the town. 17-year-old Rebecca West is like any teenager, brimming with self-doubt, consumed with unrequited love, and in a constant never-ending cycle of arguments with her sharp-tongued mother. As food runs out, and more men leave, Rebecca and her best friend Judith wait for something, anything to happen in Manningtree. But change is coming. When the mysterious Matthew Hopkins buys a pub, he brings questions. What does a young man like Matthew want with a town like Manningtree? Why has he come? And why is he so interested in Rebecca? But when an incident between Rebecca's mother and a local boy plunges the town into discord, those questions are answered with horrifying frenzy. As suspicion and fear take root and the community turns on each other, Rebecca finds her own girlhood weaponised against her - and is forced to make a devastating choice no daughter should ever have to make. This is a thrilling world premiere that tells the true story of England's first Witchfinder General, and wrenches the women he killed out from the shadows of history and into the spotlight. Adapted by award-winning Mercury Playwright and screenwriter Ava Pickett and directed by Natasha Rickman, this gripping historical drama is a fiercely modern exploration of fear, control, and what happens when women's voices are silenced. The Manningtree Witches was developed with support of the National Theatre's Generate programme, through a Jerwood Workshop.

Posting Letters to The Moon

Posting Letters to The Moon

14 Feb 2026 - 14 Feb 2026

Posting Letters to the Moon is a romantic, funny and very touching portrait of life during the second World War, featuring readings of letters between Oscar nominated actress Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter) and her explorer and writer husband Peter Fleming (brother of James Bond creator Ian Fleming) posted to India and the Far East during the war working for Military Intelligence. The letters are read by their daughter Lucy Fleming (Love Sarah, The Archers) and her husband Simon Williams (Upstairs Downstairs, The Archers, EastEnders), and give an insight into a young mother's life coping during the war and tell of Celia Johnson's experience of filming with Noël Coward, David Lean and her thoughts while making the classic film Brief Encounter in 1945. Not only are the letters highly engaging, but they also provide a fascinating historical insight into that time of true austerity and fearfulness. The show also includes a Q&A at the end.

Funeral Teeth

Funeral Teeth

23 May 2026 - 23 May 2026

Maybe you've lost your marbles… or maybe you've found the most transformative piece of theatre that you'll see this year. Probably both. Nominated for a London Pub Theatres award in its debut run, Funeral Teeth promises a night of chaos. What and who are we allowed to grieve? And does that really matter? Loss is the only truly universal experience. Whether it's coming to terms with the passing of a loved one, tucking the first tooth you've lost under your pillow, or realising that you have no idea where your wallet is after spending a blurry night boozing at the pub - we've all been there. What's more, we're going to keep coming face to face with loss. Lose yourself in the latest piece by Succulent Theatre, unpacking what loss looks like to them, what it looks like to you, and what it could look like for all of us. Following the success of their debut show Nasty, about 'Big' girls being gross, mean and sexy', the Succulent girlies are back with another queer, autobiographical, confessional piece of theatre that's gut-busting and gut-wrenching in equal measure. Death, grief and loss can be scary to talk about, but if we don't, we just feel alone. And grief already makes you feel alone. It's not all doom and gloom, though. This feel-good tragicomedy will remind you that life is a celebration and every loss you experience is an opportunity for you to grow. Drugs, sex, love, family and friendship are at the centre of this contemplative work which really puts the 'fun' in funeral. The stories shared are painfully true, often painfully funny, and will hold a mirror up to your own experiences in a way that you might not expect. In their signature style, Succulent dexterously guides you through their losses from cradle to grave. Come watch them pick at a brand new scab and see what comes oozing out. Accessibility: and Content to Consider This show contains some flashing lights, sexual references and swearing throughout. There are scenes involving discussion of suicide, self-harm, sexual assault, rape, eating disorders and death. If it's your first visit or you are unfamiliar with the Mercury building, you can find out more about our spaces here.

My Life With Kenneth Williams

17 Feb 2026 - 17 Feb 2026

David Benson burst onto the theatre scene in 1996, taking the Edinburgh Fringe by storm with Think No Evil Of Us: My Life with Kenneth Williams. Critics, audiences and close friends of Williams were unanimous in their praise. Thirty years on, and in celebration of Kenneth Williams' 100th Birthday, David Benson revisits his classic portrait of the much-missed Carry On star in a new version of the show exploring the astonishing connection that intertwined his life with that of Williams when Benson was still a schoolboy. In a dazzling display of impeccably honed stage craft, Benson gives an unsparing portrayal of the tormented comic genius, lurching from hilarity to self-pity in public and in private. A captivating raconteur in his own right, Benson has many tales to tell of his time as 'the man who does Kenneth Williams' and the adventures he has had since in an unconventional career. David Benson has most recently been seen touring nationwide with Jack Lane in their acclaimed Dad's Army Radio Show.

Two Halves of Guinness

Two Halves of Guinness

21 Feb 2026 - 21 Feb 2026

In an exceptional exploration of one of Britain's greatest actors, Zeb Soanes brings the life of Sir Alec Guinness to stage across the UK, marking the 25th anniversary of his death. With nearly 70 plays, 50 films, over a dozen television dramas, and two Oscars to his name, Sir Alec Guinness' career spanned Shakespeare, the beloved Ealing comedies, and Hollywood classics. Yet he feared he would only be remembered for one role: Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. Two Halves of Guinness is a witty, heartfelt tour through Guinness' extraordinary life and career - his encounters with John Gielgud, Shakespeare, the greats of stage and screen, and the galaxy of stars who shaped his journey. Acclaimed broadcaster and actor Zeb Soanes stars as Alec Guinness. Known as one of the most recognisable voices in the UK through his years on BBC Radio 4 (Today Programme, Shipping Forecast) and now on Classic FM, Soanes also acted in numerous BBC radio dramas alongside David Warner, Toby Jones, and Simon Russell Beale. When Soanes was 17 years old, he wrote a letter of admiration to Sir Alec Guinness - his hero - and received a neatly hand-written reply within a week, wishing him luck in his career. Now, decades later, Soanes embodies Guinness on stage, lending his rich voice and virtuosity to once again breathe life into the legendary actor and the unforgettable figures who shaped his career. Zeb Soanes comments, "Alec Guinness had an enigmatic quality that drew you into his performances - to join him in whichever game he was playing. His ability to inhabit such a vast array of characters, exploring the many faces of himself, was hugely appealing to me when I was growing up and inspired me to pursue a career in acting. Now, 25 years since his death, it is a delight to celebrate his remarkable talent - and in many of the theatres he knew." Written by Mark Burgess (Einstein in Cromer with David Suchet; The Wrong Hero; A King's Speech for BBC Radio 4), the play combines Burgess' sharp storytelling with the seasoned hand of director Selina Cadell (Twelfth Night; Uncle Vanya, Donmar Warehouse; Great Expectations, Garrick Theatre; Hamlet starring Eddie Izzard). Set design is by Lee Newby (Starter for Ten, Bristol Old Vic, Birmingham Rep; Barnum, Watermill Theatre; The Last Five Years, Garrick Theatre) and music is by Eliza Thompson whose credits span film, television, and theatre, including The Madness of King George (1994), The Importance of Being Earnest (2002), and Eddie Izzard's Hamlet. Produced by Julian Bird for Green Room Ents, Two Halves of Guinness offers a rare chance to rediscover one of Britain's finest actors beyond the Jedi robe, with wit, warmth, and theatrical imagination.

Albatross

Albatross

28 Apr 2026 - 29 Apr 2026

Albatross by Martha Loader Albatross is a compelling new play from award-winning Martha Loader that takes us to the very boundaries of love and devotion in the age of climate catastrophe. Alice returns from a gruelling Antarctic odyssey to her daughter Alba and her mother Eve. Everything has changed. There's been a flood, a funeral, and a new romance. It's 1.30am. Alba sleeps, while Eve has never been more awake. And Alice? Maybe those cracks she discovered in the Antarctic ice have followed her home… Albatross encounters mighty questions of motherhood, the explorer's soul and how to be a hero in today's world. Strong characters, sharp humour and urgent story make for a unique clash of the epic and the domestic. Martha Loader's riveting take on the family drama genre is about these intimate ties - do they make us act with more care or merely blind us to catastrophe? Clare Summerskill presents Why God Created Lesbians!
Clare Summerskill presents Why God Created Lesbians In her brand-new one-woman show, Clare Summerskill attempts to explain the point of the perplexing sexual minority to which she belongs, asking why lesbians exist? Or is it to write one-woman comedy shows featuring songs, standup and storytelling? After decades of field research, she thinks she has the answer. Expect silliness, satire and self-deprecation from crowd-pleaser Clare Summerskill as she hits the road with her funniest show yet. Clare will share the previously unheard story of the lesbian squirrel on the Ark, forced to take up a complaint about compulsory heterosexuality with Noah himself; and she will finally uncover the Almighty's real opinion about women-loving-women. Hay

Hay

21 Feb 2026 - 21 Feb 2026

There is only one word used in our show - it's 'Hay!' Like the stuffing in Geenie's scarecrow, 'Hay!' like the sound she makes when he comes to life and 'Hay!' when he sees all the wonders of the natural world for the first time. Only one word but so many meanings in a show about growing up in the heart of the countryside and discovering that you don't have to stay stuck in the mud - you can live your dreams, spread your wings and fly like the birds. A highly accessible show filled with music, clowning, song and dance. In this beautiful story Farmer Geenie guides scarecrow step by step as he finds his feet, then his hands, his voice, his legs and his love of song and dance in a story about the fun of growing up where everyday there's something new to make you say 'Hay!' Our two very talented physical theatre performers are expert clowns and so our show doesn't use any words - everything is told in a fantastically clear way through sound, dance, music and our incredibly inventive props which playfully represent the essential elements of nature that this show celebrates. We've got charming puppets - the birds of course and also the butterflies and bees - and some very wonderful eggs each with their own particular surprises. All of this means that our show is highly accessible and perfect for a younger age-group who will be giggling all the way through this gentle introduction to what theatre can be - sweet, funny, inclusive and uplifting. For those who know the countryside this show will be full of shared moments and for those who aren't so familiar with our green spaces they will want to continue the journey they will start with this show into how best to live in harmony and protect our environment. Parody Of The Rings is a hilarious and epic adventure! What happens when a cinema's Lord of the Rings marathon goes terribly wrong? That's quite an endorsement for Cloudbusting, but it also stands as a reflection of the talent, tenacity and passion that the 5-piece band has for Kate's captivating music.

21 Jul 2026 - 21 Jul 2026

In a global pandemic caused by infected meat, two boys find they're much less alone than they thought. All Of Them, Dead is a play about being young, gay and working-class in the middle of nowhere. It's about the things that go unsaid, it's about two boys holding hands, it's about clinging together as the world changes around you. And it's about meat falling from the sky (no, really). Perfect for fans of Heartstopper and The Day Of The Triffids, All Of Them, Dead is a sharp, funny and touching queer love story for the end of the world. Flashbang

Flashbang

2 May 2026 - 2 May 2026

noun: flashbang a grenade that produces a bright flash and a loud noise so as to stun or disorient people without causing serious injury; a stun grenade. Ryan and his gang were going to be mates forever. Living their lives in the same cycle as everyone else in a little town, 20 miles from anywhere important. Living for the next night out. Living for the weekend. Getting into and out of trouble. Work. Pub. Sleep. Repeat. Ryan and his gang have seen it all, done it all, lived it all. The nights they wished they could remember and the mornings after they'd rather forget. Ryan and his gang were going to be mates forever - but then came the night when everything changed. Flashbang is a critically acclaimed, award-nominated rollercoaster ride through the ties that bind five best mates and what happens to those friends when that world is blown apart. Embarking for the first time on a UK tour, Flashbang is written by James Lewis and directed by David Brady and brought to you by the award-winning team at Proforca Theatre Company in Association with Greenwich Theatre. Off West End Nominations (Best Performance Ensemble & Best Sound Design, 2024). If it's your first visit or you are unfamiliar with the Mercury building, you can find out more about our spaces here.
Hasbian

Hasbian

23 Apr 2026 - 23 Apr 2026

Hasbian by Beth Watson A new coming-of-age comedy about growing up queer in Brighton during Section 28, set to a soundtrack of y2k pop classics and indie angst anthems. How did Beth go from a childhood dreaming of The Wizard of Oz, to cringey Cruel Intentions-obsessed adolescence? From proudly identifying as a teenage lesbian, to discovering that boys are also appealing? Beth's real teenage diary is brought to life in vivid hilarity in Hasbian: a "simultaneously relatable and educational… unique insight on growing up queer in the 90s" (★★★★★ - A Young-ish Perspective). Original animations, inspired by teen magazines, feature an all-star '00s fantasy cast (in cut-out form), as Beth's BFFs and first crushes are re-imagined as "played by" the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Natasha Lyonne and Ashton Kutcher. Dripping in equal measures with heartfelt earnestness, sharp irony, and humour that bubbles up in the place between youthful confidence and pubescent self-doubt, Hasbian delves behind the rollercoaster of teenage life, into the reality of growing up queer in Brighton (the UK's Gay Capital) under Section 28 (1988-2003 law, prohibiting teaching "homosexuality as a pretended family relationship"). Set to a soundtrack of y2k pop classics (BWitched, Destiny's Child, S Club 7), and indie angst anthems (Placebo, Weezer, Garbage), Hasbian fills audiences with buzzy nostalgia, while exposing prejudice in the most liberal of cities. From the creators of Queer Diary - the night where LGBTQIA+ adults read their real teenage diaries on stage.
Macbeth Alone

Macbeth Alone

25 Apr 2026 - 25 Apr 2026

Stroud Theatre Company Present Macbeth Alone A scintillating new version of one of Shakespeare's bloodiest plays. Macbeth Alone is a thrilling and visceral reimagining of Shakespeare's most haunting tragedy — performed by one man alone. Set within one single cell, this is a claustrophobic descent into the fractured mind of a man determined to wear the crown forever. From the thunder of the battlefield to the silence of a sleepless night, from prophecy to paranoia, Macbeth Alone draws audiences into the psychological storm of a doomed king. Chris Garner (Coronation Street, War Horse) portrays every character. every betrayal every daggered vision — summoned in real time through the voice, body, and unravelling soul of one performer. Stripped of ensemble, staging, and spectacle, what remains is raw: one man, one voice, and the ghosts that will not let him rest. This is Shakespeare, distilled to its darkest essence — a fever dream of power, guilt, and fate. Content to Consider The age guidance for this show is 12+.
