For folksinger Willi Carlisle, singing is healing. And by singing together, he believes we can begin to reckon with the inevitability of human suffering and grow in love. On his latest album, Critterland, Carlisle invites audiences to join him: “If we allow ourselves to sing together, there's a release of sadness, maybe even a communal one. And so for me personally, singing, like the literal act of thinking through suffering, is really freeing,” he says. Rooted in the eclectic and collective world of his live shows, Carlisle’s third album, Critterland takes up where his sophomore album, Peculiar, Missouri left off, transforming Peculiar’s big tent into a Critterland menagerie and letting loose the weirdos he gathered together. The album is a wild romp through the backwaters of his mind and America, lingering in the odd corners of human nature to visit obscure oddballs, dark secrets and complicated truths about the beauty and pain of life and love. Produced by the GRAMMY Award-nominated Darrell Scott and released Jan. 26, 2024 by Signature Sounds, Critterland considers where we come from and where we are going. With a fascination for dissonant chords and jolting rhythms, the music of Blood Wizard provides a space for Cai Burns to express a side to their writing unrestricted by the pressures of genre. Having grown up surrounding themselves with punk and metal, it was not until Burns began collaborating with others that they found themselves falling more and more in love with the world of folk. And this was a love cemented when he stumbled upon the works of Bert Jansch. “I’m not sure how I first stumbled upon Jansch, but I was blown away by him. I was never taught how to play guitar so my technique is pretty sketchy and hearing the liveliness and clunkiness of his playing really spoke to me. I saw him as my bridge into playing folk guitar.” And whilst Jansch acted as an entry point into the world of folk, it was the persona of Blood Wizard that proved to be the biggest gateway for Burns. Under the guise of the mystical cloaks and robes of the wizard, Burns had found a home for his experimentation. Floating between both the subcultures he was raised within and the ones he presently found himself wanting to explore, Blood Wizard sits between the worlds of art, punk and folk. Influenced by the likes of Cate Le Bon and Arthur Russel, Blood Wizard was born out of a fascination with folk-lore and a desire to challenge their creative limits as a writer.

Abusing, evading, and obliterating 20 years of whimsical pop trends, Jane Weaver’s experience as a truly independent and resilient songwriter and sound-carrier commands respect and inspiration in equal measures. As an unshakable figure in the UK’s experimental pop music landscape her self-propelled career has in recent years reached a critical zenith with unanimous praise for her work.

Basht. is one of Ireland's most exciting rising indie rock bands, praised by Hot Press as "one of the most exciting young rock bands to emerge in Ireland in aeons." Their star began to ascend in 2023, supporting Wunderhorse across the UK and Ireland, sharing stages with Bdrmm and Goo Goo Dolls, and performing at festivals like Electric Picnic, All Together Now, and Mutations. They also sold out two headline London shows for Communion Music.

Formed in 2020 in Dearborn, Michigan, Prostitute is an experimental post-punk and Arab rock band. Born out of the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdown, the band’s debut album, Attempted Martyr, was written in the midst of global and personal turmoil, capturing the zeitgeist of a world unraveling. A loose concept record, it chronicles the rise and fall of a doomed zealot whose pursuit of holy vengeance spirals into a psychotic orgy of violence, greed, and lust. The band was initially formed by Moe Kazra who enlisted childhood friends Andrew Kaster and Dylan Zaranski, with Ross Babinski and Bret Wall later completing the lineup. Together, they self-funded the album, working with legendary engineer Chris Koltay to shape a sound that's both abrasive and hypnotic-an unrelenting blend of warped guitars, primitive basslines, frenzied drumming, and corrosive synthesizers, interwoven with samples from diverse cultures, ranging from African to Middle Eastern and East Asian influences. Tracks like “All Hail” (inspired by the 1977 Hanafi Siege of Washington D.C.) immerses listeners in a volatile, hostage-like environment. "Judge" channels Milton's Satan in a chilling rallying cry, while “Body Meat” grapples with religious desperation and the tenuous boundary between faith and madness. Khachab and Kaster’s lyrics have been described by Pitchfork as "disturbingly poetic" with the ability to "lacerate with image alone." Crude sloganeering and scenes of horrific violence are juxtaposed with literary allusion and Islamic symbolism, creating what the band calls a "theatricalization of terrorism." Through this lens, they examine and critique the xenophobic stereotypes targeted at Arabs, distorting them into grotesque caricatures. Over the past four years, Prostitute has established a reputation for their punishing, high-energy performances. The band’s live shows, described as “dangerous” and “volatile”, finds Moe delivering politically charged sermons atop a deafening bacchanal of sound. In 2023, Prostitute performed at the re-opening of the iconic UFO Bar in Detroit, followed by a series of benefit concerts for Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan. These performances solidified their growing presence, leading to invites to play at No Rest Fest and New Colossus Festival. As Prostitute continues work on their sophomore album, they are delving deeper into electronic and Arabic dance influences, drawing inspiration from the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. Their sound continues to evolve, with new tracks incorporating dabke rhythms, Arabesque melodicism, and industrial synth textures, all while retaining the same anarchic energy that defines their unique sound. Over the course of three albums, BLACK FOXXES main-man Mark Holley established his band as a potent creative force, carving out a signature spot on the emotive rock ‘n’ roll map backed by strong, growing support from fans and media alike. With singles / videos such as ‘Husk’, ‘I’m Not Well’, ‘JOY’ and ‘Manic In Me’, the clip for which was filmed in Iceland, a key source of influence for Album 2, it became increasingly clear that Holley is an artist prepared to shed protective layers -an artist with plenty to say and a particular way of tapping into thoughts, feelings and fears.

Lande Hekt’s natural state of being is in the writing of a song. Having crafted politically aware, heart-on-sleeve, punchy yet tender, punk-flecked songs with her band Muncie Girls, Lande turned her hand to an even more personal songwriting approach as she embarked on writing a solo record - 2021’s ‘Going to Hell’. The debut full-length documented her experience coming out as gay. It set out her stall as a solo artist with supreme storytelling abilities and a knack for understatedly luminous melodies. Lande’s music sits beautifully alongside such essential artists as The Wedding Present, The Sundays, The Replacements, Sleeper and Sharon Van Etten With her debut album barely a year old, 2022 sees Lande armed with a whole new collection of song-form vignettes and musings on her life and experiences. Kicking off where the last record left off, the opening track of new album ‘House Without a View’ is ‘Half With You’ which “is about growing into yourself as a queer person, and enjoying who you are after not enjoying it for so long,” says Lande. ‘Cut My Hair’ is about how her relationship with her gender has changed over the last few years, becoming more comfortable in herself and understanding more about what makes her happy. “It’s also about how easy it is to not talk to people when you’re struggling, which is something I did for a long time,” admits Lande.

Kassi Valazza has a viscous, light gold voice. It swirls around in your head like whiskey in a snifter; vaporous, and intoxicating. For most of Dear Dead Days pedal steel and electric guitar lope along at half time, the in pocket rhythm section booming from deep in the low end. Its frequencies penetrate your flesh. The songs reverberate off your bones. Her lyrics drip down the inside of your skull. On the opening track "Cayuse": "cause they're hard runnin' critters, and wild-eyed quitters / kicking up all they can find / that fool hardy man of mine" Musicians with Southwest origins dependably bring a languorous relaxation -- the slow pace a defense against the oppressive heat of the high desert -- and a grim sense of gravitas, having walked among the bleached bones and arid landscapes. At times Valazza sings as if her lyrics are smoke she's exhaling. On "A Fine Colour" she sings every note clearly, and with force, on a surrealist-jealousy jawn.

His much-anticipated second album, Steady Away, moves inward and takes on a more self-reflective quality, whilst retaining glimmers of soaring figures and pastoral imagery. Brain’s distinctive warm vocal and finger-picked guitar style are sustained alongside expansive strings and delicate piano arrangements, taking shape through evolving and introspective impressions on tenderness, loss, pain and awe in nature. Glancing off The Nave’s eaved ceilings with natural reverb, Steady Away’s 11 tracks, recorded by Tom Orrell, capture the intimacy of Chris’ songwriting. Steady Away further embeds Chris Brain within the contemporary folk scene, whilst gesturing towards the folk tradition. His commitment to folk is only deepened by the two folk clubs and folk festival in Leeds that Chris founded and runs, attracting a wide range of audiences and musicians alike.

London born, Nashville based Spencer Cullum debut solo album, Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection may pay homage to the ’60s and ‘70s psych-pop, folk and proto prog heroes of his homeland. Butwith a supporting cast of fellow Music City stage and studio aces like guitarist Sean Thompson and multi-instrumentalist Luke Reynolds, as well as singing and writing partners like Caitlin Rose, Andrew Combs, Erin Rae, Annie Williams and James “Skyway Man” Wallace — he’s bringing a bit of Britain to Tennessee. Hot Chip front man Alexis Taylor tours his new album Listen With(out) Piano, applying his tuneful, emotive and appealingly unforced vocals to beautifully simple new piano compositions. Listen With(out) Piano features the work of eleven of Alexis's favourite musicians, handpicked to create new tracks designed to work in response to the songs on Piano, the third solo album by the Hot Chip frontman. It’s an intimate collection of songs comprised entirely of Alexis's vocal and piano, the record was captured live to preserve each intricacy. Since 2000, Hot Chip have released six studio albums, as well as a wealth EPs, stand-alone singles, compilation exclusives, remixes and covers. Including Piano, Alexis has released three albums and an EP under his own name, as well as three further albums of material performed with the semi-improvisational About Group. Makthaverskan are a Swedish post-punk band from Gothenburg, formed in 2008. Led by vocalist Maja Milner, the band combines post-punk with elements of dream pop, jangle pop, gothic rock and shoegaze.

Julia Cumming is a New York City-based musician, fashion model, and activist, best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the indie rock band Sunflower Bean.

There’s a natural magnetism to DUG’s folk brew. The duo, made up of Conor (Lorkin) O’Reilly and Jonny Pickett, are gearing up for the release of their debut album, having formed in 2023-but you’d be forgiven for believing that they’ve been writing together for a lifetime. Their music stems from roots in musical traditions spanning both sides of the pond. In one breath, echoing the great American folk troubadours, and in another, comfortably channelling the elder statesmen of Irish folk. This is no accident. DUG have a shared musical heritage, with members having been born in America and Scotland before arriving in Ireland. O’Reilly himself spent almost a decade making and releasing music in upstate New York, having picked up sticks from his native Edinburgh, (Irish mother and Scottish father) before moving to Ireland in 2022 to start a new musical chapter. And you can hear that lived musical experience in singles like ‘Big Sundown’ and ‘Jubilee’ (shortlisted for two Grammy nominations). Resonator guitar and banjo, the building blocks of DUG’s arrangements, lick and spin, with intricate finger-picking patterns whirling to a compelling whole. Their music breathes, vamping in sync. They’re damn funny too. DUG’s lyrics catch you off guard, eliciting an honest-to-goodness chuckle in a moment of levity. At their very best, as on their forthcoming album, there’s a bona fide warmth littered throughout their unique take on folk storytelling. Tracks like ‘Wheel of Fortune’ have an easy rapport. It’s catching up with an old friend, all mischief and smiles. There are allusions to darker moments there too; yearning and melancholy, to lessons learnt the hard way. Taking the heavy with the light, and being able to translate it into a foot-tapping, infectious contemporary folk sound is what DUG do best. They don’t need to posture; their music is naturally playful and honest, inviting you along on their musical journey. DUG’s love for the musicians that inspired them never steps too far into reverence. They’re an unapologetically modern band. You’ll hear plenty of Irish influence in their music, but you’ll not find any tweed coats or paddy caps here. Instead, the band opts to be themselves-completely natural and organic. It’s part of what gives the group’s work such a strong charisma, and helps establish DUG as having one of the most unique takes on contemporary folk music. In 2024, the duo signed to Claddagh Records, a label in which they find themselves in fine musical company. A subsidiary of Universal Records, Claddagh Records has spent the last few years becoming a hotbed for some of the most forward-thinking musicians in contemporary Irish folk, home to artists like Niamh Bury, Lemoncello, and ØXN, to name a few. It should come as no surprise that a group that delights in a touch of devilment and so ardently remains true to themselves has built a thriving community of fans, both at their live shows and through their often hilarious social media. On that note, beyond the release of their debut album, DUG will spend much of 2025 on the road with plans for an extensive international tour. Already announced are Summer dates in the US: Colorado (main stage at Telluride Blugrass Festival), Washington, Portland and Idaho, as well as a debut tour in Australia in October. Austin TV surprised everyone with a live session for the cult radio station KEXP, in which they obtained more than 500,000 views in just one month. Austin TV will release their new full length album called "Rizoma" at the end of September 2023. It features 9 instrumental pieces recorded entirely live at Estudios Noviembre in Mexico City. Birmingham grunge-pop quartet Swim Deep's own brand of fuzzy grunge influenced pop has been making waves across the UK, putting them at the forefront of the blossoming West Midlands music scene.

Over the last five years of eclectic releases and impassioned live performances, The Slingers have cemented themselves as one of the most unique and hyped bands of the Australian alternative scene. The band signed to Flightless Records in 2020 (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard), releasing a double A-side immediately in collaboration with Melbourne icon Spike Fuck. Then 2023 saw the release of their debut LP, Sentimentalism, which peaked at #4 for ARIA’s Top Aus Albums and #5 on Top Vinyl Albums and instantly sold out of physical copies. The band opened 2025 with a sold-out double headline show in Melbourne with visiting Irish artist, Susan O’Neill. In September, the band will release, ‘Payphone Man’, along with a video clip shot with London filmmaker Archie Chew. This will be the first single of their incoming sophomore album, True Believers. The launch will be celebrated with an East Coast tour in Australia, followed by the band’s first foray into the UK and Ireland.

Muireann Bradley is a once-in-a-generation talent; aged just eighteen, the Irish guitarist and singer has captivated audiences worldwide with her interpretations of classic blues songs. Raised in County Donegal, she began playing guitar aged nine, inspired by her blues-loving father. Despite detours into competitive Jiu-Jitsu, music remained her true calling. Muireann's debut album I Kept These Old Blues, recorded between lockdowns during Covid when she was able to get into a studio - starting from when she was still just 14 years old, has become a coveted collector’s item, with the first pressing of the record selling out everywhere. Leo O'Kelly formed the duo Tir na nOg, along with Sonny Condell, in 1970 in Dublin. They saved £30 each, which they figured would last them a month, and took the boat train to London in May that year with a bagful of songs. Within weeks of arriving they had a recording contract with Chrysalis Records, and had already started to gain a strong reputation on the London folk scene. They soon started recording their first album, Tir na nOg, with the legendary Bill Leader producing. They toured extensively, headlining in concert halls, clubs and colleges as well as supporting bands like Jethro Tull, The Who and ELP to name just a very few. After touring Britain, Europe and America for four years, as well as releasing two more highly acclaimed albums, they decided to go their separate ways for a while, getting together occasionally to play as Tir na nOg. Leo, as well as playing live, produced several albums for EMI and Polydor Records, his very first being the highly sought after epic album, Loudest Whisper's Children Of Lir. In 2002 Leo released the first of three solo albums, Glare, which he followed with Proto and Will. The last album was RTE Radio 1 Album Of The Week, and got extensive play on Irish radio. Marc Almond has covered one of the songs, Kiki Of Montparnasse, on his live concerts. As well as his increasingly rare live outings, Leo continues his fortnightly online show on Facebook, ViViD Radio, which is still thriving after 6 years broadcasting. As well as his eclectic solo set, Leo sometimes plays a night of all Tir na nOg songs, covering his and Sonny's repertoire. This will be the basis of his MOTH Club performance and will doubtless include one of Leo's first compositions, Daisy Lady, which has recently had more than 12 million streams on Spotify. Crash of Rhinos return to the stage with their first album in 13 years: Logbook. Self-produced and recorded in an empty library and a remote Cumbrian barn, the album has taken the band years to shape after they quietly reformed four years ago. Crash of Rhinos broke up in 2014, shortly after releasing their second album Knots. Their first album, Distal, turned 10 in 2021 and the band got together in Derbyshire to run through the tunes to see if the chemistry was there for some possible anniversary shows. They had a great time. So good that they scrapped the anniversary show idea and started writing new songs. Their lives are very different than before. Their perspectives have widened and matured.
