Kassi Valazza

Kassi Valazza

28 May 2026 - 4 Jun 2026

Kassi Valazza has a viscous, light gold voice. It swirls around in your head like whiskey in a snifter; vaporous, and intoxicating. For most of Dear Dead Days pedal steel and electric guitar lope along at half time, the in pocket rhythm section booming from deep in the low end. Its frequencies penetrate your flesh. The songs reverberate off your bones. Her lyrics drip down the inside of your skull. On the opening track "Cayuse": "cause they're hard runnin' critters, and wild-eyed quitters / kicking up all they can find / that fool hardy man of mine" Musicians with Southwest origins dependably bring a languorous relaxation -- the slow pace a defense against the oppressive heat of the high desert -- and a grim sense of gravitas, having walked among the bleached bones and arid landscapes. At times Valazza sings as if her lyrics are smoke she's exhaling. On "A Fine Colour" she sings every note clearly, and with force, on a surrealist-jealousy jawn.
Ella Raphael

Ella Raphael

Ella Raphael is blessed with an amazing voice; a woozy, bluesy, euphoric sound that’s filled with warmth and emotion. Brought up on Elvis, Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf her travels in the UK, US, Australia and Spain have refined that eclectic mix, adding The Shirelles, Julee Cruise, Love, Serge Gainsbourg, Karen Dalton (to whom her lilting vocal occasionally recalls), ESG, Broadcast, Vashti Bunyan, Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, the original masters of Tropicalia, exotic 50s guitars and the more esoteric sounds of The Beatles. Presented by LNZRT. This is an 18+ event.
Chris Brain

Chris Brain

12 May 2026 - 27 May 2026

Chris Brain emerged out of Leeds’ vibrant folk scene in 2022 with his debut, critically acclaimed and widely distributed album, Bound to Rise, reaching Number 22 in the UK Folk Charts. His much-anticipated second album, Steady Away, moves inward and takes on a more self-reflective quality, whilst retaining glimmers of soaring figures and pastoral imagery. Brain’s distinctive warm vocal and finger-picked guitar style are sustained alongside expansive strings and delicate piano arrangements, taking shape through evolving and introspective impressions on tenderness, loss, pain and awe in nature. Glancing off The Nave’s eaved ceilings with natural reverb, Steady Away’s 11 tracks, recorded by Tom Orrell, capture the intimacy of Chris’ songwriting. Steady Away further embeds Chris Brain within the contemporary folk scene, whilst gesturing towards the folk tradition. His commitment to folk is only deepened by the two folk clubs and folk festival in Leeds that Chris founded and runs, attracting a wide range of audiences and musicians alike.

Formed by Raphaël Bressler (vocals, keyboards), Glenn Le Meur (guitar), Jim Bodeman (bass) and Romain Segu (drums), the band broke through in 2024 with their debut EP That Never Happened - a release rooted in themes of grief, emotional distance and vulnerability, pairing ’80s cold-wave textures with sharp modern production. Their forthcoming debut album Knots & Chains, due February 2026 via Irascible Records, expands on this world with thunderous basslines, hypnotic rhythms, reverb-soaked guitars and atmospheric synths underpinning Bressler’s deep, resonant vocals. Known for their striking gothic-inspired visuals and growing reputation for powerful live shows, Lone Assembly have quickly built a dedicated following across the new-wave and dark-wave scenes, while retaining undeniable pop appeal. Ro Nova is a London-based electropop artist and producer blending ’80s synth textures with ethereal vocals to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking. Dug + Rua Rí (féile Moth)

Dug + Rua Rí (féile Moth)

25 Jun 2026 - 25 Jun 2026

There’s a natural magnetism to DUG’s folk brew. The duo, made up of Conor (Lorkin) O’Reilly and Jonny Pickett, are gearing up for the release of their debut album, having formed in 2023-but you’d be forgiven for believing that they’ve been writing together for a lifetime. Their music stems from roots in musical traditions spanning both sides of the pond. In one breath, echoing the great American folk troubadours, and in another, comfortably channelling the elder statesmen of Irish folk. This is no accident. DUG have a shared musical heritage, with members having been born in America and Scotland before arriving in Ireland. O’Reilly himself spent almost a decade making and releasing music in upstate New York, having picked up sticks from his native Edinburgh, (Irish mother and Scottish father) before moving to Ireland in 2022 to start a new musical chapter. And you can hear that lived musical experience in singles like ‘Big Sundown’ and ‘Jubilee’ (shortlisted for two Grammy nominations). Resonator guitar and banjo, the building blocks of DUG’s arrangements, lick and spin, with intricate finger-picking patterns whirling to a compelling whole. Their music breathes, vamping in sync. They’re damn funny too. DUG’s lyrics catch you off guard, eliciting an honest-to-goodness chuckle in a moment of levity. At their very best, as on their forthcoming album, there’s a bona fide warmth littered throughout their unique take on folk storytelling. Tracks like ‘Wheel of Fortune’ have an easy rapport. It’s catching up with an old friend, all mischief and smiles. There are allusions to darker moments there too; yearning and melancholy, to lessons learnt the hard way. Taking the heavy with the light, and being able to translate it into a foot-tapping, infectious contemporary folk sound is what DUG do best. They don’t need to posture; their music is naturally playful and honest, inviting you along on their musical journey. DUG’s love for the musicians that inspired them never steps too far into reverence. They’re an unapologetically modern band. You’ll hear plenty of Irish influence in their music, but you’ll not find any tweed coats or paddy caps here. Instead, the band opts to be themselves-completely natural and organic. It’s part of what gives the group’s work such a strong charisma, and helps establish DUG as having one of the most unique takes on contemporary folk music. In 2024, the duo signed to Claddagh Records, a label in which they find themselves in fine musical company. A subsidiary of Universal Records, Claddagh Records has spent the last few years becoming a hotbed for some of the most forward-thinking musicians in contemporary Irish folk, home to artists like Niamh Bury, Lemoncello, and ØXN, to name a few. It should come as no surprise that a group that delights in a touch of devilment and so ardently remains true to themselves has built a thriving community of fans, both at their live shows and through their often hilarious social media. On that note, beyond the release of their debut album, DUG will spend much of 2025 on the road with plans for an extensive international tour. Already announced are Summer dates in the US: Colorado (main stage at Telluride Blugrass Festival), Washington, Portland and Idaho, as well as a debut tour in Australia in October. Irish fans can expect a surely raucous performance at almost every major Irish festival this summer. There’s plenty more dates still to be announced, so it’s well worth keeping your eyes peeled. Presented by Broadside Hacks, Skinty Records. This is an 18+ event.

Leo O'kelly Sings Tír Na NÓg (féile Moth)
Leo O'Kelly formed the duo Tir na nOg, along with Sonny Condell, in 1970 in Dublin. They saved £30 each, which they figured would last them a month, and took the boat train to London in May that year with a bagful of songs. Within weeks of arriving they had a recording contract with Chrysalis Records, and had already started to gain a strong reputation on the London folk scene. They soon started recording their first album, Tir na nOg, with the legendary Bill Leader producing. They toured extensively, headlining in concert halls, clubs and colleges as well as supporting bands like Jethro Tull, The Who and ELP to name just a very few. After touring Britain, Europe and America for four years, as well as releasing two more highly acclaimed albums, they decided to go their separate ways for a while, getting together occasionally to play as Tir na nOg. Leo, as well as playing live, produced several albums for EMI and Polydor Records, his very first being the highly sought after epic album, Loudest Whisper's Children Of Lir. In 2002 Leo released the first of three solo albums, Glare, which he followed with Proto and Will. The last album was RTE Radio 1 Album Of The Week, and got extensive play on Irish radio. Marc Almond has covered one of the songs, Kiki Of Montparnasse, on his live concerts. As well as his increasingly rare live outings, Leo continues his fortnightly online show on Facebook, ViViD Radio, which is still thriving after 6 years broadcasting. As well as his eclectic solo set, Leo sometimes plays a night of all Tir na nOg songs, covering his and Sonny's repertoire. This will be the basis of his MOTH Club performance and will doubtless include one of Leo's first compositions, Daisy Lady, which has recently had more than 12 million streams on Spotify. Crash Of Rhinos

Crash Of Rhinos

1 Aug 2026 - 1 Aug 2026

Crash of Rhinos return to the stage with their first album in 13 years: Logbook. Self-produced and recorded in an empty library and a remote Cumbrian barn, the album has taken the band years to shape after they quietly reformed four years ago. Crash of Rhinos broke up in 2014, shortly after releasing their second album Knots. Their first album, Distal, turned 10 in 2021 and the band got together in Derbyshire to run through the tunes to see if the chemistry was there for some possible anniversary shows. They had a great time. So good that they scrapped the anniversary show idea and started writing new songs. Their lives are very different than before. Their perspectives have widened and matured. Their appreciation of each other has deepened. And they sound more mellow and yet more intense at the same time. Presented by Diminishing Returns. This is an 18+ event.

Muireann grew up with her father listening to these old records and playing and singing the music himself. When she was nine years old she asked him to teach her to play and so her love of guitar began. Brown Wimpenny (album Launch)

Brown Wimpenny (album Launch)

12 Jun 2026 - 12 Jun 2026

It is fitting that Brown Wimpenny, a folk collective who mine the transcendent collective power of traditional music to the deepest extent possible, should have emerged from the most informal - and social - of places. One Sunday in the spring of 2023, sisters Anna and Jess Korbel, tenor banjoist Seth Lockwood and mandolin player Archie Barker, met up in Lockwood's south Manchester living room to explore a collective budding interest in folk music. Then, the Sunday after that, they met again - and once more the Sunday after that, attendance growing gradually each time. Before long it had sprawled into a weekly 25-strong get together and shared meal - as much a jam session as it was a chance to eat, drink, relax and catch up together at the end of the working week. The music they played was sprawling too - like all the best sessions. It was expansive, chaotic and constantly shifting, and unlike a regular jam in more ways than one. By taking traditional songs as their starting point, which have no true owners other than humanity itself, there was genuine creative decentralisation, “a true common understanding,” as banjoist Luke Morris puts it. Because the songs come with their own rich histories and meanings, it allowed them to delve deep in search of those that would resonate with them the most - “an addictive process,” says Lockwood - and then to focus purely on the act of channelling them into the present, allowing those ancient energies to mingle with their own. As Broadside Hacks, the powerhouse label and collective at the heart of England’s current folk resurgence, gear up to release Brown Wimpenny’s debut album, ‘Long Live Brown Wimpenny’, it’s worth pausing for a moment to take stock of just how magnificently that channelling is achieved. The northern industrial ballad ‘Sheffield Grinder’ for instance, sees the intensely charismatic singing of accordion and musical saw player James Brown placed front and centre, skipping restlessly above a simmering bassline. “It’s a song we found in Roy Palmer’s book Poverty Knock,” says Brown. “It’s about how workers in poverty, especially northerners, are often blamed and shamed by the rich and powerful for struggling to look after themselves. It was written as a protest song in Sheffield in the mid-19th century, when the Knife Grinders, notoriously poor artisans, were being publicly and unfairly blamed by MPs for their use of child labour, lack of education, and toxic working conditions. “We wanted to do it because the north has a strong socialist folk history, and these important, rare songs are often underperformed,” he continues. Here’s it’s paired with a Morris tune, ‘The Black Joak’, “to turn it into something danceable and channel the bitterness and resentment expressed in the song into something upbeat and radical.” This is evident in the song choice for their upcoming album. As violinist Chris Bright says “we found ourselves drawn to the human narratives that define traditional songs. Tales of hardened shepherdess’ and maligned steelworkers, lonely drunks and sailors nearing death. It’s these stranger, often forgotten folk characters that really captured our imagination.” As those early sessions went on, Brown Wimpenny’s membership eventually whittled down from 25 to 15. Though it had begun as a social event, says double bassist Ted Downer-Wills, “within a few months we were realising that it’d be quite nice to put a gig on.” The show was at Salford’s tiny Henrykk bar and naturally sold out given that a quarter of the venue’s capacity was filled by the band themselves. It was chaotic, recalls Anna Korbel, “none of us had any pickups, so there were so many microphones,” but also joyous, with lyrics provided for their audience so that the boundaries between performers and audience could be deconstructed. It was an early indication of the way that communal energy and non-heirarchical structure present in those first informal meetups could be transferred to a live setting too. The band’s membership has now been concentrated further into a fixed lineup of 11 - still a large number to navigate, not least given they’re based across three cities, Manchester, Liverpool and London. “The way an idea is arranged at the beginning is often dictated by who’s come to the rehearsal that week,” says Downer-Wills. It’s a point they use to their advantage, however; by letting the ever-shifting winds of practicality dictate their sound, Brown Wimpenny can maintain an edginess, a spryness, a lightness on their feet as they focus purely on the energy of the present. “Each iteration of a song is like a time capsule of that moment,” adds flautist Ella Evans, in the same way that the people who performed the same songs centuries ago were providing time capsules of theirs, “and how in 20 years, it will be different and reflect people then. There’s no ideology, no striving towards something that you’re not - just ‘here I am, hanging out and making music.’” Don’t underestimate the importance of that last point. More than anything else, says Anna Korbel, “we see the band as a shared social and creative endeavour. We love the sense of the everyday and the and the normal, and rejoicing in the collective and communal. I think that's the key to our process and our ethos. We're not over-egging anything. We're just seeing it and playing as it is.” Perhaps there’s something to be said for the fact that the band was born in the north. They’re not kitsch, they stress - theirs is a multi-faceted and complex northernness - but there’s an undeniable sense of the region’s identity rubbing off on them. “Seeing the good in the grimness, finding it funny whilst also appreciating it,” as Lockwood puts it. “Like when you hear Blackpool organ music and see old dancehalls - it’s not trendy, but it has a social utility. You get that all over the country, obviously, but there’s definitely a northern flavour of that too, and I think there are elements of that that we’ve captured.” Their deep connection to their immediate surroundings is also drawn on in the choice of music they perform - ‘Sheffield Grinder’, being the obvious example, given that “the industrial history we exist around has a really strong presence in our work,” as Korbel puts it - as well as the way in which they perform it, the way collective energy bursts through the cracks in these tales of grinding routine. On a literal level, too, the band stress how much kinship they feel with the wider Manchester musical community - the choirs that some of their members sing in, the public folk sessions they’ve hosted and attended, the simple encouragement of friends. “It’s not just the 11 of us, it’s everybody who’s ever been involved in our process and in our community,” says Korbel, “who’ve done us favours or have watched us. People always say that folk is the music of the people, but for us it’s not just the tunes that we play - it’s the sense of togetherness, the public ownership of the music, everyone being together.” The sheer thrill of Brown Wimpenny’s music - the connection to their surroundings, the constant push and pull between tradition and progression, the fraying at the edges, the shifts in direction - is undeniable. And yet this focus on the everyday, the ordinary, is equally central. It’s why the fact that they take their moniker directly from the unusual name of Lockwood’s great great great great uncle, should be viewed as more than a mere curiosity. The original Brown was a man from Linthwaite in West Yorkshire who grew up in the mid-1800s on a farm, then moved to Brooklyn to become a chauffeur, where he lived out the rest of his days. “I’d always heard this crazy name floating around in family stories,” Lockwood says. They named the band after him initially as a fun nod to their personal past, but Brown’s since developed into something more than that - as well as a band mascot. Korbel, also an illustrator, has used the only surviving photograph they have of him as the basis for the band’s visual identity across their gig posters and artwork. “It’s a nice memorial, like we’re keeping the name of this random relative alive,” says Korbel, “but there’s also something about bringing the past forward into the future.” “He’s almost taken on a life of his own as a sort of fictional character, who exists in our heads more than the guy he actually was,” adds Morris. In other words, you might call him a folk hero - albeit one whose life was distinctly un-heroic. By channelling their creative force into this everyman, the band have turned their namesake into a proxy for our entire shared humanity, a figure who symbolises the normal joys, hardships and mundanities we all experience can be found. “Brown Wimpenny is anyone really - he could be your mum, your dad, your mate,” says Lockwood. The band have tried to capture this in their debut album. It does not mark the birth of something new, nor the culmination of efforts passed. It is simply a celebration of something that has always been in motion. Long Live Brown Wimpenny. Bright highlights that “The people and places through which we discovered this music are central to the choice of tracks on the album.” From listening to source recordings of Frank Verrill and Jake Thackray during rehearsals, to picking up tunes at local pub sessions each track brings with it a little piece of the band's history. The music itself reflects the diversity of styles and influences within such a large band, and the spontaneous approach to arrangement they often take. Be it the punkish drive of Sheffield Grinder or the expansive soundscapes on Raglan Road, they filtered traditional songs through 11 different interpretations, altering their form to find their meaning. The most powerful traditional music is the kind that reaches this core humanity, the joys, hardships and mundanities that remain consistent through time, even as the world around them changes. There are few who know that better than Brown Wimpenny. Presented by Broadside Hacks. This is an 18+ event.

Ispíní Na HÉireann + The Wran, Doireann Ní Ghlacáin (féile Moth)
Ispíní na hÉireann are a feral Folk-Alternative Irish music collective from Dublin, Ireland. They formed in 2018 and are fronted by Tomás Mulligan, Paahto Cummins, and Declan Gillen. Steeped in Dublin's rich traditional music scene, the band brings together some of Ireland's most exciting and talented contemporary musicians, cultivating a sound that is fiercely original and unmistakably Irish. Their music blends virtuosic original compositions with bold re-imaginings of classic tunes, fusing technical mastery with sharp wit, storytelling, and social commentary - creating performances that are as thought-provoking as they are electrifying. Following the success of their debut album The Hard Working Men, the band released their critically acclaimed second record Poxtail Soup, showcasing their trademark mix of energy, irreverence, and heart. With a growing audience across Ireland, the UK, and Europe, and a reputation for exhilarating live shows, Ispíní na hÉireann continue to redefine what contemporary Irish music can be. Hailing from the Comeragh Mountains of County Waterford, The Wran are four brothers: Tommy, Danny, Seán and Stephen Dunford. They bring a fresh voice to Irish music, blending trad with punk and a hint of psychedelia to create music that feels both timeless and new. Drawing inspiration from Planxty, The Pogues and Lankum, The Wran combines traditional and modern instrumentation, including banjo, harmonium, acoustic guitar, bass VI and drums. They are dedicated to keeping the Irish language, traditional songs and storytelling alive while continuing to push it forward in their own way. After an explosive live debut in 2025, including accoladed performances at Glastonbury, Green Man, All Together Now, and Electric Picnic, the band went on to support The Scratch and Kíla, play Dublin’s Notable NYD festival, and sell out their first Irish tour. Beginning 2026 with a sold-out UK tour, The Wran are fast establishing themselves as one of Ireland’s most vital new bands. Dr. Doireann Ní Ghlacáin is a fiddle player, sean nós singer, academic and broadcaster from the north side of Dublin. From her father's family she inherited a love for traditional music and under the tutelage of her father Kevin Glackin began a life long journey of learning the fiddle at just 3 years of age. From her mother's family, the Ó Riada's of Cúil Aodha she inherited a passion for the Irish language, traditional arts and sean nós song. In 2024 she completed a PhD at the University of Galway on oral poetry under the supervision of Lillis Ó Laoire. Kacy & Clayton

Kacy & Clayton

15 Oct 2026 - 18 Oct 2026

We were raised on cattle ranches where we learned how to play traditional country music because that's what everyone wanted to hear. The music Kacy and Clayton make is inextricable from where they grew up. They sing about the kind of people you'd find in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan (population very few). The hills, barns and remoteness of the area are in these songs, with a bittersweet acknowledgement that this music has taken them far from home. Kacy Anderson and Clayton Linthicum's new album Carrying On follows the international acclaim for their previous records Strange Country (which Q magazine called, A beautiful album that nudges a classic past into a brave future.) and 2017's The Siren's Song described by Uncut as Ageless and beguiling. A classic record for this or any other time. Their sound is equal parts homespun, coming from a family and community where playing music is an ever present part of social gatherings, and the rare country, blues and English folk rock these second cousins obsess over and collect. For Carrying On, Clayton cites as influences: Bobbie Gentry's The Delta Sweete, Hoyt Axton's My Griffin Is Gone, Cajun fiddle music, and the steel guitar of Ralph Mooney who played on many of the records that defined the Bakersfield country music scene of the 1950s. Sixties psych has also woven its way into these new songs; Kacy enjoys telling people that they live 250km from the mental hospital that coined the term 'psychedelic'. Having toured almost nonstop for the last two years, Carrying On was conceived and honed on the road and recorded immediately after a jaunt across Western Canada, mostly as live takes with the minimum of overdubs the songs having been tried and tested before audiences each night. The album was produced once again by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo fame, at his Loft studio in Chicago. The result is a sharpening of what Mojo magazine summed up as A beautiful mix of Kacy's crystalline vocals and Clayton's inventive, deep-groove country guitar. And a greater attention to detail in their songwriting; with narrative tales of loss, regret and yearning alongside vivid portraits of the Northern Great Plains and its isolated inhabitants. The songs The Forty-Ninth Parallel, The South Saskatchewan River, Providence Place and That Sweet Orchestra Sound were all written with local settings in mind - with the latter a tribute to the rural dance bands of the area, who referred to themselves as 'orchestras.' One such band, the Romansky Orchestra from Fir Mountain featured Kacy's Grandpa Carl in their line-up when he was in his teens. Of Carrying On, Jeff Tweedy said "When I first heard Kacy and Clayton, I was struck by how much detail and nuance they had absorbed from what sounded like a large swath of my record collection. When I told them that they were as good as the artists they were drawing from, I'm not sure they believed me. On this record I don't hear those influences as much as I hear them taking the things they love so intimately and telling their own story. I think they're a truly great band. Our songs for this album are inspired by rural living of the past and present, highlighting the toll that urban dwelling can take on first generation kids moving out of the country into the city.

Lydia Lunch & Marc Hurtado Play The Songs Of Suicide And Alan Vega
Lydia Lunch has crossed paths with Alan Vega and Martin Rev of Suicide upon arrival in New York at age 16, late 70 SUICIDE The first show of which she attended was a real shock, a revelation on a new form of a concert, a total show, theatrical, free, violent. Since then, a close relationship, as much artistic than friendly, united them , Lydia Lunch performed on stage and on a record "Frankie Teardrop" by Suicide and she sang a duet with Alan Vega in the album SNIPER by Alan Vega and Marc Hurtado in 2010. Marc Hurtado, had already met Alan Vega and Lydia Lunch on his Etant Donnés ‘s RE-UP album Be in 1999 and he formed the project My Lover The Killer in 2013 with Lydia Lunch, with whom they recorded an album and play on stage. Since 2014 Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado join forces for this event around Suicide and Alan Vega songs , it will be a kind of sonic "Blitzkrieg" and a visual shamanic ceremony, where both artists will burn their souls in the volcanic heart of the music of Alan Vega and Suicide, concentrated to melt their performance in kaleidoscopic film INFINITE DREAMERS directed by Marc Hurtado dedicated to Alan Vega and Martin Rev. Lydia Lunch is a nomadic gypsy in eternal metamorphosis that almost lost her life for her art dozens of times in 35 years. Musician, writer, photographer and performance artist, she appeared in the New York music scene in 1977 with the project founder No Wave, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. In search of inspiration and cooperation she worked with Karen Finley, Hubert Selby Jr, Nick Cave, William Burroughs or Virginie Despentes, she lived in New York, Brooklyn, New Orleans, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, London. She has visited 656 cities to perform on stage for concerts, spoken word, installations in clubs, theaters and museums. Marc Hurtado is a musician, performer, poet, painter, producer and filmmaker who co-founded the French duo ETANT DONNES with his brother Eric in 1977. He has made more than 20 albums and concerts around the world in places like Kitchen ( New York), the Fondation Cartier (Paris), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Sonar Festival (Barcelona), the Atonal Festival (Berlin), or Transmusicales (Rennes). Apart from this duo and solo project Sol Ixent, he has collaborated with many cult figures including Alan Vega, Genesis P.Orridge, Michael Gira (Swans), Gabi Delgado (DAF), Craig Walker ( Archive) , Pascal Comelade, Z'ev, Philippe Grandrieux, Christophe, Saba Komossa (Delkom), Mark Cunningham (MARS), Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka. His films were screened in Beaubourg Paris , FID Marseille, the French Cinematheque in Paris, the Locarno Film Festival, BAFICI Festival Buenos Aires, Mostra de Valencia and recently at the MoMA in New York, which also acquired his latest feature film "Jajouka, something good comes to you" in his collection.
