Hot Club Gallois

Hot Club Gallois

9 Aug 2026 - 9 Aug 2026

Hot Club Gallois are a dynamic 4-piece gypsy-jazz band based in South Wales playing the hottest picks of the Swing Era. Their irresistible mix of fiery violin, lyrical vocals, virtuosic guitar and stomping bass has thrilled crowds around the British Isles. There set contains Django Reinhardt classics, Swing flavoured jazz standards and some Hot Club Gallois originals. From gypsy to jitterbug, ballads to bolero, Hot Club Gallois will transport you to the swirling dance halls and gypsy camps of Paris in the 1930's and 40's. https://www.hotclubgallois.com/ Facebook hotclubgallois https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XymZbvzTl E https://youtu.be/bRq7ci N5CE?si=BPfE7ywgZYDEnYPJ XENIA PORTEOUS - Violin Fast and furious improvisation on a knife edge is Xenia's idea of a fun night out. Her fledgling career to date has included several TV and radio credits including the BBC, ITV and S4C. She's performed in some great venues like the 02 in London and the Royal Albert Hall, and plays regularly in a number of musical styles from classical to disco. Although Xenia grew up with the violin she didn't study at music college, believing the pressure of earning a living from music would take away the joy of playing. In 2013 in a kind of pre-mid-life crisis she resigned from a lucrative finance job and escaped to South America for 6 months where she realised that music was too important not to be the focus of her life. She set up as Xenia Violin on her return and has been performing and recording ever since. When she's not playing she enjoys dancing Argentine Tango and raising her family. LUKE ARCHARD - Guitar Luke is a former classical guitarist who developed a passion for the swing style of Gypsy Jazz after a chance encounter with the music during a visit to the New Orleans Jazz festival. Inspired by the melodic beauty, virtuosity and flamboyancy of the gypsy style, he plays with an intensity that is both authentic and evocative. Having played with various gypsy jazz line ups in London, he relocated to South Wales. He now plays full time with Hot Club Gallois. RICHARD JONES - Guitar Vocals Richard was a typical teenage bedroom guitarist who soon gained a reputation playing in the pubs and clubs around South Wales. His horizons expanded into contemporary Jazz, free improvisation and world music while gaining a degree in Jazz from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Whilst there he co-founded modern jazz quartet The Jones O'Connor Group with whom he toured nationally, making several radio and TV appearances as well as two critically acclaimed albums. More touring and recording followed with Os Sambistas, a Brazilian Roots and Samba group, featuring a notable collaboration with Brazilian percussion master Bosco d'oleveira. Around the same time Richard was invited to join the Welsh Jazz Composers Orchestra as a guitarist/composer. The 18 piece jazz ensemble featured Wales' most prominent Jazz musicians during their 2006 Tour. Richard has featured in several TV and radio appearances most notably BBC Children in need 2007' and S4C's coverage of Brecon Jazz Festival 2006 and 2008. Festival credits include London Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Brecon Jazz, Experimentica Festival, Cork Jazz Festival . Richard is adept in a wide range of musical styles. His session credits range from rap group Goldey Lookin' Chain to Dance Producer Jean Jacques Smoothie and classical singer Aled Jones. He recently performed in the U.S.with classical baritione Mark Llewellyn Evans. Richard now teaches Jazz guitar at RWCMD on the same course that earned him his degree. He has also lectured in pop/rock at ICMP and tutored at various Jazz summer schools around the UK. MIKE MORGAN - Stick Bass / Vocals Bass player and singer. Artisan and compulsive maker of things including the instruments he plays on stage. Music has been his downfall and continues to provide endless pleasure in his cosmic confusion. Unable to work out what he is going to be when he grows up, he looks on the next few years as a bit of an experiment.

Would you like to try some printing techniques? Would you like to create beautiful silk flags with the community that celebrate Brecons artistic festivals? Flags are signifiers of identity, place and belonging and indeed protest - in recent months, flags also have the power to divide and disrupt community. The aim of this project is to bring the community together, to celebrate the towns sights, sounds and cultural activity whilst having fun. Over 3 x 3 hour sessions (please note attendance at all 3 sessions is required): This block of sessions is aimed at ages 14-25 years Dates: 26 & 27 May & 13 June Times: 4.30pm-7.30pm Please get in touch if you have accessibility requirements. As part of a small group, with an artist, you will develop a design brief under the title "Brecon: Sounds and Visions" inspired by Brecon's colourful and rich festival scene and the beauty of the place itself. You will try out simple block printing techniques and learn about positive and negative printing. You will design and make your own lino block and try out your print on paper and fabric. You may also try simple screen printing techniques. As a group you will combine the different print techniques to create a vision for the final design of four community silk flags and work together to produce these. These flags, and eight others will be unveiled to Brecons public at the launch of Brecon Choir Festival during the week of 13th July 2026. In addition to the flags themselves, the group will select from their prints and designs to create a display to be exhibited at Theatr Brycheiniog. This project is run by The Muse Agency CIC in collaboration with The Yard Print Studio, thanks to funding from PAVO, Brecon Choir Festival, Brecknock Art Trust, The Audrey Tyler Charity and support from Brecon Volunteers Bureau, Theatr Brycheiniog and The Muse, Brecon

Down to the Nub Tour: Dub Catalyst Live at the Muse
Four years on and were still hereworking ourselves down to the nub. From day one, weve been fully DIY, pushing against the tide just to keep this thing moving. We started as nine and quickly grew to eleven within six monthsmore mouths to feed, more logistics to juggle, but more drive than ever to make it work. We record (and still do) all our own music, book all our own gigs, and build everything through pure graft and networking. The tour name Down to the Nub actually came from a coin flipone Sam (regrettably) wonbut the meaning behind it couldnt be more fitting. It reflects the hard work and persistence that's carried us this far. Things are stronger now: the shows are bigger, the music hits harder, and the vibes are higher than ever. But most importantly, the support from you has made it all possible. From helping us land support slots to reaching out and sharing what the music means to youyouve kept us going. This tour is a reflection of that journey, and we need your support once again to launch it and make it a success. Were not going anywhereand weve got a lot more in store for 2027. Join us as tickets go on sale now for our 2026 tour, Down to the Nub.
