The List

Music Hall

A variety of events fill Aberdeen's Music Hall's calendar, including comedy, theatre, pop music and classical events, as well as the annual Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Housing anywhere from 1300--1500 audience members, the hall was constructed in 1822 and designed by local architect Archibald Simpson, whose work contributed to Aberdeen's nickname as 'the Granite City'. It is a grade A listed buidling. Originally the city's Assembly Rooms, it was later opened to the public as a concert hall in 1859, and a major renovation was comepleted in late 2018. Alongside the main auditorium there is Big Sky Studio seating 100. The Rondo cafe serves snacks and lunches, and the Rondo restuarant opens (on most occasions) when there is an evening event.

In his last show ‘The Book of John’, Rhod was dealing with some pretty pungent life citrus, and an idiot called John. Little did he know that things were about to turn even more sour
But Rhod’s not bitter; he’s bouncing back and feeling remarkably zesty. Hilariously dark, passionate and way too personal, this is classic Gilbert, squeezing every last drop out of life’s latest curveballs...with a little help from an old adversary.

Russell Kane Live: Hyperactive!

Russell Kane’s bringing to town his gut-punch funny, searing, award-winning take on the years we’ve just gone through. He’s also a raving bighead that likes listing his achievements.

Milton Jones: HA!milton

Milton Jones: HA!milton

3 May 2025 - 29 Nov 2025

This is not a musical. Milton Jones is tone deaf and has no sense of rhythm, but at least he doesn’t make a song and dance about it. He has more important things to discuss. Like giraffes... and there’s a bit about tomatoes. You might know him from Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo or Radio 4. Or that time he stood for the Scottish National Party, fought a hard campaign, but in the end had to respect the wishes of the people of Cardiff. A whole new show of daftness. You know it makes sense. Warning - contains jokes from the start.

Public Service Broadcasting

Public Service Broadcasting

6 Aug 2025 - 6 Aug 2025

Public Service Broadcasting have been “teaching the lessons of the past through the music of the future” for more than a decade now. 2013’s debut album Inform – Educate – Entertain used archival samples from the British Film Institute as audio-portals to the Battle of Britain, the summit of Everest and beyond. Two years later, The Race For Space used similar methods to laud the superpowers’ rivalry and heroism in orbit and on the moon. In 2017, joined by voices including Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield, Every Valley was a moving exploration of community and memory via the rise and fall of the British coal industry. Pointedly topical in its analyses, it reached number four on the UK charts. For their fourth album, Bright Magic (2021), the band take inspiration from Berlin: “It’s become an album about moving to Berlin to write an album about people who move to Berlin to write an album
”. Heralded as the band’s most varied and cerebral record, Bright Magic is an impressionist portrait of the city from the ground up, less linear and narrative than previous works, combining PSB’s use of electronics and surging guitar rock with sound samples collected in the city itself to realise the dreams of Berlin they’d constructed in their minds.

A journey from darkness to light. Struggles between love and despair result in a pulse-raising masterpiece that stirs the soul. Gemma New is always a popular guest conductor here in Scotland, and she knows exactly how to get to the heart of a masterpiece – whether Lera Auerbach’s fiery retelling of the myth of Icarus, or the shadows, secrets and burning truths of Shostakovich’s powerful First Violin Concerto. Rosanne Philippens is the soloist today: a violinist who believes that every note should convey emotion, and forge a connection. They're rendered by a rotating cast of musicians and singers in fashions that date back to a time when Axl, Slash and T-Swift's parents had yet to be born - a time of street corner harmonies and torch singers, blues belters and golden-voiced crooners.

Peat & Diesel

Peat & Diesel

4 May 2025 - 25 Oct 2025

The story began when three Stornoway Cove's (Innes, Uilly and Boydie) met up in the house to have the craic on a Saturday night playing music with just the dog and the cat watching. After a few tunes getting thrown across the room Boydie stated muttering a few sentences. As he is a man of few words no attention was really given to him until he shouted 'Quick, line me out!' Not a second to spare a set of old broken headphones were cable tied to a guitar amp and out came a few cobwebs followed shortly after with a sound nobody had ever heard before. What came next was five gallons of lyrics, verse after verse, song after song Peat & Diesel was born! The songs won't make much sense to the average person, but the person behind the lyrics isn't your average man so if you have a listen and you can relate to it you are a special breed! Peat & Diesel Light my Byre takes you on a journey to the heart of the Western Isles, where #peatlemania was born. You might have time for a brandy in the 'Airidh' but don't miss your ride in Calum Dan's Transit Van, we ain't stopping till we lose the water!

Grayson Perry: Are You Good?

Grayson Perry: Are You Good?

7 Oct 2025 - 23 Nov 2025

Are You Good? A question that I think is fundamental to our humanity. In this show I will be helping you, the audience, find out if you really are thoroughly good or maybe quite evil, but in a fun way. I always start out with the assumption that people are born good and then life happens. So, let’s pull back the curtain and see where your morals truly lie. Are you as virtuous as you think? With lots of audience participation (don’t worry, no one leaves unscathed) and a few silly songs we’ll have an entertaining evening and come out with our core values completely in tatters. Is it more important to be good or to be right? It’s time to update what is a virtue and what is a sin. No biggie.

Jason’s been busy since his last smash-hit stand up show but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit.

As the Roman Empire crumbled in Western Europe, a shadow of power remained, almost perfectly mapping onto its disappearing territories. And then, it continued to spread. Unearthing the archaeological clues and challenging long-established histories, Professor Roberts tells a remarkable story about the relationship between the Roman Empire and Christianity. Lifting the veil on secrets that have been hidden in plain sight, this story is nothing short of astonishing. Domination is a page-turning exploration of power and its survival, and now you have the opportunity to hear more from the author in this exciting evening with Professor Alice Roberts. Starts 7.30pm
