This captivating programme, performed by the celebrated Piccadilly Sinfonietta and leading violinist to be announced, promises an evening of elegance and inspiration. With over 200 performances annually, this acclaimed ensemble—featuring some of the UK’s most gifted virtuosi—has become a mainstay on the British classical scene. The evening's programme will contain Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' with a selection of other, renowned classical masterpieces.

Pop Music on the Organ: ABBA, Coldplay and More  Bank Holiday Recital by Reductio
Looking for something a little different this Bank Holiday? Join us at Newcastle Cathedral for a high-energy lunchtime recital like no other. Matt Walters, also known as Reductio, has been shaking up the world of classical organ music with his genre-bending remixes. A viral TikTok sensation, Reductio seamlessly blends the grandeur of the pipe organ with pop and dance hits. Expect a dazzling mix of songs by ABBA, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Kate Bush, and more all reimagined for the King of Instruments. Information: Pre-booking would be greatly appreciated to help us plan for numbers, but it is not compulsory. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of 7 to Newcastle Cathedral. If youre able, please Gift Aid your donation to increase its value by 25% at no extra cost. Please note: Seating is non-allocated until you arrive. Caf 16 will be open before and after the recital pop in for coffee, cake or a light bite. CDs will be available to purchase from Matt after the performance, including Pop Music on the Organ and Film Music on the Organ.

Join us for a fun-filled adventure as one of our friendly volunteer guides leads you on a captivating tour of the Cathedrals creatures. Discover centuries-old carvings and hidden details featuring animals, both real and mythical from otters and squirrels to mermaids, dragons and unicorns. Along the way, youll learn about the symbolism behind these curious creatures and uncover the surprising stories of why they appear in a place of worship. Perfect for curious minds of all ages, this tour sets off from the Font and will last approximately 30-45 minutes. FREE to attend Suggested donation 6 per adult / 4 per child (under 16). Your generosity helps us care for this historic building, support our community work, and keep the Cathedral open for everyone. London Concertante brings Vivaldi’s masterpiece to life in a wonderful concert featuring gems of baroque music. This concert features Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; a jewel of the composer’s extraordinary ability to illustrate moods as diverse and contrary as violent winds or birdsong, fox hunts and drunken stumbles! We combine this with one of the most beautiful pieces for the violin, Vaughan-Williams’ transcendental "The Lark Ascending", which takes you on a journey to the heights of poetic nature’s landscapes. A stunning concert celebrating the virtuosity of the violin in all its forms.

Celebrate the festive season in style with the sensational Down for the Count Swing Orchestra, as they "Swing Into Christmas"! Fast becoming a holiday tradition for audiences around the country, this is a Christmas spectacular like no other – Down for the Count’s 30-piece big band with strings is one of the largest swing bands currently touring the UK. Directed by conductor and compère Mike Paul-Smith and featuring some of the UK’s top vocalists and instrumentalists, the orchestra recreates the sounds of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday in a unique performance full of joy and humour, which has won the hearts of music lovers up and down the country. Audiences of all ages will be captivated by vibrant takes of iconic songs, including The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting), I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and New York, New York, alongside many fantastic new song selections for the 2025 show – all performed in authentic big-band-with-strings style. Join a churchyard tour starting in St Nicholas Square. Was Queen Victoria truly unamused by her visits to Newcastle? Why does a Vampire Rabbit overlook the Cathedral? Uncover these mysteries and learn about the lives of those buried here. This tour is fully accessible for wheelchair users and follows a circular route, starting and ending at the statue of Queen Victoria in St Nicholas Square, NE1 1PF. These tours are FREE to attend, with a suggested donation of 7 per person. Your support helps us maintain the Cathedral, continue our charitable work, and keep the doors open for all. Pre-booking is not compulsory; however, please be aware that each tour has limited spaces available. Please note: In the event of bad weather, an indoor History Tour may be offered as an alternative, subject to the availability of indoor space on the day.

Explore monuments, stained glass windows and hidden heroes. You will learn about Admiral Lord Collingwood, born near St Nicholas Church (now Newcastle Cathedral), who took command after Nelson fell at Trafalgar in 1805, pioneering feminist Mary Astell, and the Danish sailors who found a safe haven in Newcastle during the Second World War.
