There has been horseracing in Newcastle for 350 years, but the present course has been in its current location in Gosforth Park since 1881. The racecourse hosts both flat and National Hunt races, the most prestigious meeting being the Northumberland Plate, held in late June or early July. The course offers a wide range of hospitality packages for both corporate and individual clients, and can be hired for private parties and weddings. The course is off the B1318, adjacent to the Newcastle Marriott Hotel off the A1. Newcastle Airport is six miles away. A bus service operates between the course and Regent Centre Metro station, and on race days there is a free bus hopper between Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends stations.
