John Otway and his hard hitting band attack his favourite set list with gusto, leaving plenty of room for anarchy, fun and acrobatics that are his trademark. The Big Band are Richard Holgarth (lead guitar), Seymour (bass guitar), Murray Torkildsen (guitar, songwriter), Adam Batterbee (drums).

Miki Berenyi Trio are Miki Berenyi on vocals/guitar (Lush), Kevin ‘Moose’ McKillop on guitar (Moose) and Oliver Cherer (Gilroy Mere, Aircooled). The three musicians first worked together during Piroshka’s 2021 tour. Miki and Kevin being founder members, Oliver coming in on bass to replace Mick Conroy (Modern English) who had moved to the US. When the global pandemic made touring impossible, Miki spent the lockdown months writing her memoir, Fingers Crossed, released in 2022 to widespread acclaim. To provide some musical accompaniment for the string of book events and signings, Miki Berenyi Trio was formed.

Created by Gordon Chapman-Fox, the Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan is a musical project that explores this history and its reverberations today. Looking backward and forward, Chapman-Fox explores the artistic traces of this modernist architecture's lingering hauntology.

Berlin born and raised artist Albertine Sarges brings together a new band for her debut LP which approaches her take on feminist theory, musings on bisexuality, gender stereotypes and mental health. These topics fall under the ever-shifting veneer of Albertine’s chameleonic pop motifs: from Viv Albertine-inspired post-punk and kaleidoscopic dream-pop to quiet-loud guitar squall and Tune-Yards reminiscent vocal acrobatics. While Albertine Sarges maintains a sense of comedy in her approach, her music is also a platform to explore the self and contribute to broader societal discourse.

Girls of the Internet’s manifesto is clear; to create dance music that calls back to how it was made at its inception, but with the knowledge and experience of the past 50 years of the genre. Joining the dots that have not been joined for a long time, the collective takes on people of all sexualities, gender expressions and body types. “We are very proud to bring this music back to its inclusive roots. Let’s forget the disjointed and cliquey scene we live in, and bring back what once united us.” Crafting songs with real musicians, the group’s name was inspired by Ladies of the 80’s by Eighties Ladies, the album from a girl group produced by Roy Ayers, “I just loved the whole concept, and I wanted to do the same thing with Girls of the Internet,” explains the group’s founding member Tom Kerridge. “I wanted a name that played with gender, and people’s subconscious misogyny. Girls of the Internet is abstract – it means nothing, and it means everything.”

Gwenno Saunders is a music producer, DJ, radio presenter, musician and singer from Cardiff. She is a native Welsh and Cornish speaker and it is this, along with co-producing and co-hosting Welsh language show Cam O'r Tywyllwch (A Step Away From The Darkness) with Peski for Radio Cardiff and more recently, Resonance FM, that has led her to create music that translates her Internationalist influences into layered, home-fi keyboard sounds wrapped in echoed vocals and musique concrète-inspired beats.

Teethe is a band from Texas. The members of Teethe met while attending the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, a small college town outside of Dallas with a fertile music scene. Before forming Teethe, its core members Boone Patrello, Grahm Robinson, Madeline Dowd, and Jordan Garrett all played in various other groups in Denton, releasing music under different pseudonyms. Patrello released solo music via his Dead Sullivan moniker, while Robinson released under Mah Kee Oh. Patrello and Robinson linked up with Dowd to record an album for her project, Crisman, in 2019. They all eventually moved in together, leading the group to start recording more as a whole unit, and subsequently Teethe was born.

Max Fry is an artist, producer, songwriter, and mix engineer from Orlando, FL. He released his debut EP, So Close to OK, at the end of 2023, and followed that with his debut album, More Than Dead to Me, a project which highlighted his Florida roots.

Cannibal Ox is an abstract hip hop duo from Harlem, New York, consisting of Vast Aire and Vordul Mega (also known as Vordul Megallah). They are often accompanied by DJ Cip-One.

We always think we have a plan. We will walk into a situation with a purpose and an idea, only to find that life has other things in store for us. Goon frontman and creative mastermind, Kenny Becker, had a record’s worth of new songs ready to record, studio time booked, and a vision for how it would all play out. But weeks into the recording, life hit him like a lightning bolt in the form of the sudden dissolution of his marriage and his subsequent psychic spiral. Blindsided by heartbreak, the music Becker had written for the record began to take on new meaning. What had come from joy was now something closer to agony. In the friction of that moment, Becker pushed his band-and his songwriting-into stranger territory. Celtic Connections proudly presents Josef Akin. Glasgow-based pianist, keyboardist, and composer Josef Akin presents his brilliant jazz-funk album, Flightcase. Lauded as “one of the best jazz recordings of the year” by DJ TJ Gorton, it channels influences such as Sun Ra and Herbie Hancock, as well as Amara and GABO – the other bands Akin plays with. Expect to be immersed in music by a talented array of vocalists and instrumentalists. Whether on flute, trumpet, guitar, bass, sax, horn or keyboards, balafon, keyboards and percussion, each musician gives vent to their own creativity – something Akin says felt particularly important during the album’s lockdown-era genesis. The result is an unpredictable, but predictably wonderful, show.
