Those foundations built from tirelessly busking recently grabbed the attention of BBC Radio 1. Glass Caves' DIY approach was the subject of a Newsbeat mini-documentary, which brought the story of their unstoppable rise to a mainstream radio audience. Aside from their rock-solid live reputation, Glass Caves were rewarded with impressive success for their self-funded debut Alive. Cud

Cud

11 Jul 2025 - 8 Nov 2025

Emerging from the same art/design cauldron that produced fellow Leeds legends Soft Cell, Scritti Politti, and The Mekons, CUD were the pre-Britpop answer to doleful shoegazing bands fun-loving, light-hearted, romantic and downright catchy. Alternatively loved or loathed like a yeast extract, CUD are indie rock for the unpretentious pleasure seeker, boasting as they do the rich deep-lunged voice of Carl Puttnam, edgy guitars of Mike Dunphy and tight, funky rhythm section of William Potter, bass and Gogs Byrn, drums. CUD were initially lauded for their quirky Peel session cover of You Sexy Thing in 1987. They soon built up a huge live following and buffed up their repertoire with a string of unstraight pop beauties, best exemplified by the 1990 album Leggy Mambo. This led to a major-label deal with A&M in 1991, front-page NME coverage, massive sellout gigs and proper Top 30 hits, Rich and Strange and Purple Love Balloon. Misunderstood by record companies and press, CUD packed away their guitars and sticks in 1995 but, bolstered by a greatest hits anthology (Rich and Strange) in 2006, they agreed to tread the boards again, with a further reunion following in 2012 (now with original guitarist and key songwriter Mike Dunphy) and continue to find an army of Space CUDets still eager to sing along, dance like fruitcakes and invade their stage.

1 Jul 2025 - 11 Jul 2025

Wielding an ethereal croon and masterful whistle crafted from a lifetime chasing lizards through the Ozark hills, Nick Shoulders is a living link to the vocal roots of country music... with an undeniable weird streak. Combining his family's deep ties to regional traditional singing with years of playing to crowded street corners (and empty bars), Nick has created a hybridized form of raucously clever country music; born of forgotten rocky hollers and bred to confront the tensions of the 21st century South. An avid illustrator and painter, Nick combines the manic rural wit of his songwriting with a visual world all of his own, one surreal album cover at a time. With a creative output steeped in the rugged landscape and complicated history of his beloved homeland of Arkansas, Nick crafts his work as a conscious (but loving) rebuke of country music, and its historic allegiances to power and regression.

Willi Carlisle + Melissa Carper

Willi Carlisle + Melissa Carper

2 Jun 2025 - 6 Sept 2025

For folksinger Willi Carlisle, singing is healing. And by singing together, he believes we can begin to reckon with the inevitability of human suffering and grow in love. On his latest album, Critterland, Carlisle invites audiences to join him: “If we allow ourselves to sing together, there's a release of sadness, maybe even a communal one. And so for me personally, singing, like the literal act of thinking through suffering, is really freeing,” he says. Rooted in the eclectic and collective world of his live shows, Carlisle’s third album, Critterland takes up where his sophomore album, Peculiar, Missouri left off, transforming Peculiar’s big tent into a Critterland menagerie and letting loose the weirdos he gathered together. The album is a wild romp through the backwaters of his mind and America, lingering in the odd corners of human nature to visit obscure oddballs, dark secrets and complicated truths about the beauty and pain of life and love. Produced by the GRAMMY Award-nominated Darrell Scott and released Jan. 26, 2024 by Signature Sounds, Critterland considers where we come from and where we are going. On the album, he takes on human suffering through stories about forbidden love, loss, generational trauma, addiction, and suicide, believing that by processing the traits and trauma we inherit, he can reach a deeper understanding of what it means to succeed and to exist. Presented by Love Thy Neighbour. This is an 18+ event
