A multifariously creative force who’s built an entire ecosystem that empowers self-expression, Spero creates music and tech that embodies limitless possibilities. A Chicago- area native based in Los Angeles, the pianist/keyboardist, producer, arranger, composer, bandleader, YouTube educator, label-owner and internet entrepreneur has devoted a good deal of his time to building vehicles that connect fellow artists with audiences. Familiar to a diverse array of listeners through his collaborations with the pop star Halsey and the funk/fusion Miles Electric Band, Spero has also composed music for film, theater and television, written songs with Rolling Stones bassist Darryl Jones, and co-produced tracks with Ski Beatz. In recent years he’s focused on Spirit Fingers, his powerhouse quartet featuring a cadre of the era’s definitive players, including drummer Mike Mitchell, aka Blaque Dynamite. Spero’s new album, 2022’s The Chicago Experiment, is a collaboration showcasing a brilliant cast of hometown improvisers with Makaya McCraven, Marquis Hill, Joel Ross, and Jeff Parker. The album earned high praise from major publications, including Financial Times, Bandcamp, and Stereogum, with attention to its innovative fusion of Chicago’s rich musical traditions in jazz, soul, and blues. Spero releases a single every Friday, and his recent collaborations legendary artists such as Harvey Mason and Aloe Blacc have been consistently featured on top Jazz playlists including Spotify’s “State Of Jazz” and Apple Music’s “Jazz Currents”. His written work and performance occupies a space between surrealism, jazz and the rhythms of Caribbean speech and music. His 2022 collection Sonnets for Albert won the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry 2022 and the OCM BOCAS Prize for Caribbean Poetry. He is the author of five poetry collections and three novels. As a musician, he has released nine critically acclaimed albums. The most recent, Rowing up River to Get our Names Back was released in February, with a second volume due in December 2025. Liv’s musical career started off in 2019, working alongside Hackney's grassroots label Root 73 (also home to the Silhouettes project) with a collaborative hip -hop / neo-soul EP. Art duties being done by a Five Points favourite, Puretee Phillips, she'll be painting the faces of Five Points one last time to mark the special occassion. Live performances start 8:30/9 PM About TUCAN The Jazz collective have embarked on their journey of the exponentially growing UK Jazz scene. Their sound is the musical representation of community and togetherness, with multinational members and cross-cultural inspirations. TUCAN’s fresh take on Jazz sees them incorporate Soul, Funk and RnB, with the injection of West-African and Latin American rhythms and melodies, drawing inspiration from the likes of Snarky Puppy, Robert Glasper and Ezra Collective. As TUCAN solidify their focus on bringing people together, their live shows have blossomed through their energetic and captivating performances, leaving the audience moving and grooving. Formed in 2017, the band met on the music programme at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The collective soon made a name for themselves, with a gig supporting internationally renowned Chicago Jazz Drummer, ‘The Beat Scientist’, Makaya McCraven, with their debut release of their single ‘Flight’, recorded and filmed at the famous Abbey Road Studios. With the band now based in London, TUCAN the collective are constantly growing their fanbase with their releases; their debut EP ‘LIBRE, and accompanying Remix Album ‘LIBRE: THE REWORKS’ showing their infectious energy and versatility. Big Ben Jorge - A Celebration Of Jorge Ben And Brazilian Classics
Ninety One are proud to welcome Big Ben Jorge to the Living Room stage on Saturday 9th August. Be transported to 1970's Brazil as the South London band brings explosive tropical dance music, Brazilian pop and samba to the Living Room stage. Expect infectious grooves and Brazilian dance classics all night long. Having drawn members from bands including Electric Jalaba, Teotima, Cocos Lovers, Haraket and Flying Ibex, Big Ben Jorge springs from a love of...well...Brazilian pop music. With influences ranging from Samba to Northeastern and Baiao Styles, this diverse gathering of musicians found common ground in the toothsome grooves and nimble melodies of the Brazilian chart music of the 70's and 80's. Particularly, of course, that of Brazilian pop legend Jorge Ben Jor, BBJ's namesake. They pay heady homage to these artists, and the result is explosive and gripping to see live. See you on the dancefloor! about Ash Ash is a London based DJ with a Saturday night residency at revered audiophile spot Brilliant Corners. He also held a two-year residency at the legendary Jazz Cafe playing alongside the likes of Nicky Siano, Gilles Peterson and Danny Krivit. He currently plays his carefully pruned record collection to dancefloors across Europe and further afield. He’s no stranger to radio with a few years under his belt hosting a weekly show on Netil Radio and also as a guest on NTS, Redlight Radio, The Lot Radio and Le Mellotron. Saturday, the 19th of July, Boboxa invite Good Stuff Carlos (Planet Groove BE) to jump on the decks for a night of Italo, disco, soul, house and everything in between. about boboxa Boboxa is a collective based between London and Paris, blending a love for vinyl with a commitment to meaningful causes. For the past 6.5 years, they have been organising music events and DJing across the globe-from London and Paris to Mexico, Australia, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Istanbul-with all proceeds and fees going to various charities, raising almost £20,000 to date. Passionate about rare and global sounds, their sets aim to be musical journeys that connect cultures through rhythm and melody-electronic or otherwise. They have hosted some of our favourite selectors, including Bárbara Boeing, Millos Kaiser, Eternal Love, Adriana, Ajuma, Mafalda, Cody Currie, John Gómez, Soos, Colectivo Miramar, Pabels, Good Block and more. They also run a regular radio show on Radio Sofa in France called Mind The Gap, and each summer they host Solis Arcadia, a small independent festival held in a castle in the French countryside, celebrating music, community, and shared values. about good stuff Carlos London-based selector and Planet Groove member, Good Stuff Carlos, is deeply rooted in the vibrancy of the city’s eclectic music scene. After many years of directing her own music in award-winning projects such as Wara, En El Aire and La Evolución composer and pianist Eliane Correa launches her self-titled repertoire at Ninety-One Living Room. Known for her role as keyboard soloist with Hans Zimmer and for her 15-year career as one of the pioneers and cultural ambassadors of the UK’s Cuban/Latin scene, Correa recently released her first double single, Everywhere/Float, under this new self-titled project that she sees as a very personal experiment around the themes of identity and community. Correa’s vision integrates Cuban melodic and percussive codes to a cinematic-oriented, reflective jazz base. Expect a mix of floating synths, Afro-Cuban folkloric drums, contemplative harmonies, and a dose of Cuban-centric jazz. The live 7-piece band features some of London’s top musicians such as Hammadi Valdés on percussion, Sam Warner on trumpet and Allexa Nava on sax, as well as a special guest appearance from vocal shapeshifter PLUMM.
