The Searchers and Hollies Experience

The Searchers and Hollies Experience

1 Jun 2025 - 18 Jul 2025

Now in its eighth year, The Searchers and Hollies Experience... The best of both worlds brings to the stage the magical hits of these two legendary harmony bands. Bringing back memories of the most high-energy decade in pop music history. Let the haunting melodies transport you to that exciting era when millions of records were sold. The Searchers, from Liverpool, made their debut with the rise of Mersey Beat. Their very first recording, Sweets For My Sweet went to number 1 in the charts. This was followed at No.2 by their third single, Sugar And Spice. They then went on to have many more memorable chart hits. Who can forget Needles And Pins and When You Walk In The Room. They had many other hits and became part of the British invasion of the American charts alongside The Beatles. The Hollies, from Manchester, were also pushed forward with the rise of Mersey Beat as they played many of the same venues as the Mersey groups. The Hollies are known as the most successful British singles band ever, having had chart hits in every decade since the 60s. Catchy, melodic tunes are their trademark and they have had phenomenal chart success. Stay, I Can't Let Go, Bus Stop, Sorry Suzanne, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, Here I Go Again, Just One Look and the haunting Air That I Breathe are just a few of their hits. The Searchers and Hollies Experience is performed by the FOD Band who have been together since 1983. They have a particular insight into the Searchers music having backed Tony Jackson, the original lead singer of The Searchers. When Tony returned to performing in the 90s, he selected The FOD Band to back him under The Tony Jackson Group banner. The FOD band have also appeared with Eric Haydock's Hollies, a band that Eric Haydock - the original Hollies bass guitarist - formed in the 1990's. FOD love the harmonies and the melodic material these groups recorded, and this is what motivated them to combine these two groups hits into an exciting 2 hour tribute show featuring over 30 hit songs.

CODA is a funny, heartwarming show all about the brilliant things that happen when you grow up in a house where sign language is the first language used; whether it’s watching his dad shut his eyes to win any argument or beating his in-laws easily when they suggested playing charades against a deaf family on Christmas Day. Ray’s previous shows Deaf Com One and Doppelginger were huge successes and sold-out theatres across the world. As this show is all about growing up with deaf parents every show of CODA will have a BSL interpreter. Simon Spillett Quartet

Simon Spillett Quartet

23 May 2025 - 23 May 2025

Over his twenty five year career Simon Spillett has worn almost as many hats as it's possible to wear within jazz; multi-award-winning instrumentalist (BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards, Jazz Journal's Album of The Year), quartet and big band leader, recording artist, author, historian, record producer, archivist, magazine columnist and latterly blogger. However, for all these varied skills he identifies most strongly as a powerfully swinging, straight ahead tenor saxophonist, one capable of taking the audiences who hear him on a roller coaster ride encompassing everything from energetic bebop to heartfelt balladry. And it’s in this guise that he’s become a solid fixture on the UK jazz landscape, regularly playing sold out gigs at major festivals (EFG London Jazz Festival, Brecon, Swanage, Scarborough, Wigan etc.) and world famous club venues (Ronnie Scott’s). A charismatic performer, gifted with a dry observational wit, he’s never lost sight of the fact that jazz is entertainment as much as self-expression and whether playing, writing or articulately holding forth on his favourite subject UK jazz history – he’s an infectiously passionate communicator. Simon Spillett (tenor sax) Alex Hutton (piano) Alec Dankworth (bass) Clark Tracey (drums)

Gasper Nali

29 May 2025 - 29 May 2025

Gasper Nali is a not-so-traditional babatoni player from the small town of Nkhata Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi. The babatoni is an African one string homemade three meter long bass guitar, and with a stick and an empty beer bottle, together with a cow skin kick drum and catchy melodies, he creates the most amazing and danceable original Afro Beats possible! Gasper’s unique style of Kwela music has received an extraordinary amount of online attention after a video of him playing by the lake shore went viral with over 20 million views. He has been featured by CNN and in the documentary Deep Roots Malawi, jammed with Joss Stone, appeared on Wired for Sound – Malawi, remixed by Aroop Roy for Sol Power Sounds and been played by Iggy Pop on BBC 6! His debut album, Abale Ndikuwuzeni, roughly translates to People, I want to tell you. It is a fitting title as Gasper’s songs, all sung in the Malawi national language of Chichewa, talk about life and strife in the country, often including social issues such as the rich and the poor, child marriages etc. Gasper has toured the UK and Europe several times since his breakthrough video, playing in all environments from seated arts centres spaces to major festival stages. This year, Gasper will be transforming his customary one man band show and perform with a three piece band for the very first time in the UK. Along for the ride is Malawi born songsmith and cultural proponent Luhangah on additional vocals and percussion, as well as Gasper’s long time producer and collaborator Mattias Stålnacke on guitars.

Jaz Delorean

Jaz Delorean

6 Jun 2025 - 6 Jun 2025

Jaz Delorean is a London based British singer, with the European touring band Tankus the Henge and also on his own at the piano. He has a colourful past together with a wild and wandering present. The songs that he sings and plays on the piano are tender observations of our fragile and sometimes twisted existence on this planet, taking inspiration from bar-room piano players of the Old West, the mournful melodies of his Cypriot ancestry and a patchwork of comic and tragic stories from growing up around a travelling funfair. Strange things happen in dreams, but stranger things can happen in waking life, and Jaz Delorean has never shied away from baring his tattered soul to anyone willing to listen. Hell pull at your heartstrings, and get you dancing to the rhythms of his fingers and forgetting your own worries for a time, before skulking off into the blackness behind the neon carnival lights again. Some things arent meant to be kept.
