Northern Soul Orchestrated

10 Mar 2026 - 3 Jul 2026

Originating across the North and the Midlands in the 1960s and 1970s, the Northern soul subculture emerged as a passionate and vibrant all-night dance movement centred around American soul music. Growing from an underground scene to an enduring movement, the legacy of Northern soul resonates in contemporary music today; in this concert, the BBC Concert Orchestra revives the vibrant, euphoric music in a whole new style. Curated by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie and conducted by Joe Duddell, the orchestra performs amazing new arrangements by Fiona Brice of Northern soul classic anthems with a host of very special guest vocalists, capturing the spirit of a movement. Maconie says: ‘Northern soul is music at its most exciting and alive. This is the sound of the streets and the dancefloors, rich with passion, ecstasy, heartbreak and joy. We cannot wait to bring these fabulous songs and performances to the heart of the cities where they are cherished.’ Following on from the success of the BBC Northern Soul Prom in 2023, this tour is one not to be missed.
Stiff Little Fingers

Stiff Little Fingers

10 Mar 2026 - 21 Mar 2026

Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night. These were the first of what became SLF’s signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut Inflammable Material. The album chronicles the band’s anger and frustration at “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality. Over the years, their live shows continued to be special events of energy and power. Their studio albums demonstrate their passion and anger, each in its own way. In ’94 they released the Get a Life LP. The album helped renew interest in SLF just as newer bands that sited them as a major influence, such as Bad Religion, Sugar, Rancid and Therapy?, were coming to prominence. After many studio albums and countless tours, Stiff Little Fingers find themselves more in demand than ever.
Tori Amos

Tori Amos

8 Apr 2026 - 21 Apr 2026

Since the release of her first, career-defining solo album _Little Earthquakes_, and her number one album _Under The Pink_, Tori Amos has been one of the music industry’s most enduring and ingenious artists. Tori has transcended from commercial pop success to using her music to tackle serious issues around female gender, subsequently paving the way for a generation of young female activist popstars. From her visceral depiction of sexual assault in _Me and a Gun_ and her post-9/11 album _Scarlet’s Walk_,_ _to her decidedly feminist stage musical _The Light Princess_, her work has never shied away from intermingling the personal with the political. Her stunning album _Ocean To Ocean_ addressed the feelings of lock down, isolation, family and grief, with a gentle euphoric approach to such potentially dark musings. 'Flexing her musical muscle on an ecstatic return' _The Guardian_ 'Eclectic and electric music from a truly unique artist' _Manchester Evening News_
