The List

Odeon Metrocentre

Gateshead's Metrocentre is the largest shopping centre in the UK, with a mind-bending two million square feet of retail floor area, so no wonder its Odeon is correspondingly giant-sized, with 17 screens including an IMAX. Each screen has wheelchair spaces and an infrared sound system is in place for customers with hearing difficulties. All screens also offer audio description and subtitling. The cinema offers over 18s the Gallery, a licensed bar with unlimited snacks and soft drinks, and it's big enough to have its own cafe and Ambar bar and lounge; drinks purchased in Ambar can be taken into the auditorium. There are regular film quiz nights on Thursday evenings from 8pm, and both the cafe and bar have free wi-fi. Metrocentre itself is big enough to have its own chapel, but with over 340 stores and food and drink outlets ranging from Pizza Hut to a cocktail bar, there are plenty of places to relax. As far as getting there is concerned, the centre has not only its own bus station (with a shuttle bus service taking 15 minutes from the centre of Newcastle) but its own train station. There is ample parking.
