In his 40s the two universes collided when Alfie made a bid for showbiz success – but unfortunately 30 years of shift-work and being punched in the face quite a lot, had left him with ‘a face for radio’. A face not so much ‘lived in’ as inhabited by a settlement of squatters with little regard to property maintenance and repair. This is the true story of ‘Fair Cop’ Alfie’s big plan to transition from the BBC radio waves to TV star. Could it be done? Or had Father Time decided that his time had passed?

Marcus Brigstocke - Vitruvian Mango
Marcus Brigstocke: Vitruvian Mango What are men for? Most heavy things can be lifted by machines and most problems can be solved by computers and most puddles can be crossed without us gallantly draping our capes over them - so are we fellas of any use at all? Award winning MAN Marcus Brigstocke thinks we might still serve some useful function. But what is it? This new tour show will resolve the entire issue once and for all (in a non-patriarchal, open minded, progressive sort of way). DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man is the image of the ideal male form. Marcus’ Vitruvian Mango is the same, but sweeter, softer, seasonally available and, when ripe, delicately perfumed. ‘... charming, hilarious and utterly refreshing…’ The Sunday Mirror ‘Sharpest one-liner merchant’ The Sunday Times ‘If you haven’t seen him live, then you haven’t seen him at his very best’ The Mirror

Join Moonstone Theatre Company to help them solve a mystery, whilst enjoying a fabulous afternoon tea experience, held in Stage Left. Every year people flocked to the small Devon town of Barton Ferrers for the November the 5th celebrations. Otters St Mary had its tar barrels, Sticklepath had its fire show and Barton Ferrers had a re-enactment of the Gunpowder Plot. A model of Big Ben was built on the village green, and a group of townsfolk performed the events of that fateful night on November 5, 1605. However, on the 8 November 2025, the night of the Barton Ferrers lightshow, Philip Dunbar, who was going to play Guy Fawkes, was found dead inside the burn-out model of Big Ben. He had been hit on the head. The police were called, and Detective Chief Inspector Appleby was put in charge of the case. He concluded that his key suspects were the other townsfolk playing parts in the re-enactment and he has asked them to attend this evening in order to pursue his investigations. He calls on the other guests to help him. All the clues will be there to catch the killer, but will they be correctly deduced? Detective Chief Inspector Appleby, with the help of the other guests, is determined to get to the truth before the afternoon is out. This was, of course, not the real Santa but an Uncle with whom they were living. The Doctor who signed the death certificate found that he had died of natural causes but the family didnt feel they could celebrate Christmas in the house and so they arranged to meet here tonight to do their best to celebrate the festive season. They are interrupted by Detective Chief Inspector Appleby who brings shocking news. Death Amid the Winter Snow - An Original Classic Period Whodunnit
An icy blast had descended on Whitstone Manor in the winter of 1935 as the Oldacre family gathered for their annual get together. The yearly pilgrimage to the family home, set amongst the lonely tors of Dartmoor, was something not many of the family looked forward to but something that had to be borne with fortitude until they had the chance to escape. Failure to appear would cause displeasure and might result in the changing of a Will and the loss of a potential inheritance. This year was no exception but as they all arrived for what must be endured rather than enjoyed, they could not have known that a sudden death would change their lives. For some, perhaps, a legacy which would enable them to realise their ambitions but for one or more of them, a loss of freedom and nothing to look forward to but the gallows if they were named as the murderer of Silas Oldacre, the patriarch who ruled his family with a rod of iron but who, this year, met a violent and unnatural end. The storm which raged outside had cut them off from the outside world for two days and eventually they were able to leave but only as far as the village hall in Postbridge where Detective Chief Inspector Appleby was waiting to speak to them.

The History of Witchcraft and Feminism
The witch is a deeply important and appealing figure, and her story is more relevant than ever. Witches weren’t evil, and they certainly didn’t wear pointy black hats. Instead, society has long used the idea of the witch as a dumping ground for everything it fears or hates in women. Witches are old—too old to be sexy, too old to bear children—and even today, we stigmatise older women as “problematic” or “ugly”. Exploring the true history of witches reveals much about ourselves, how we got here, and how we can change. But who hunted witches? Surprisingly, it wasn’t mostly men. It was often younger women, pressured by patriarchal systems to blame older women in exchange for temporary favour—favour that disappeared as they aged. This history still echoes today, as generational divides between women persist and even worsen. Learning about witches reminds us of the importance of solidarity between generations—why we must stand together to break free from these old patterns. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Diane Purkiss is Professor of English at the University of Oxford, and a fellow of Keble College.
