The History Of Witchcraft And Feminism
From WitchLit bestsellers like The Familiars by Stacy Halls and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Darkness to the viral phenomenon of WitchTok, the image of the witch has transformed into a modern, chic aesthetic. But beyond the trendy allure lies a powerful, political undercurrent. In this compelling talk, Dr Sharon Jagger delves into the feminist edge of today’s fascination with witchcraft. She examines how witches became symbols of resistance during Trump-era protests, with activists casting spells to hex patriarchy. Drawing on scholars like Laurel Zwissler, Dr Jagger explores how feminists reclaim “witch” as both an identity and a rallying cry against historic misogyny and power. Is modern witchcraft an effective tool for activism or just a fleeting trend? Uncover the potent mix of feminist politics, spirituality, and the enduring power of the witch. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
