Historical Vehicle Gathering

This is probably the biggest classic vehicle event in the South West with some 1500-2000 exhibits including steam, cars, motorcycles, commercials, military, tractors and buses. There are around one hundred trade stands, including many autojumblers. Organised by the Crash Box and Classic Car Club, this year celebrates fifty years since the first show here in 1975. We have lots of family entertainment too, with a fun dog show, Ferris wheel, VE Day display, live music, miniature children’s train, face painting and more.

Directed by Dr. Emily Baines We are delighted that the Amyas Ensemble have accepted our invitation to return to the Music Room, such was their success here in 2023. They are a period instrument group specialising in exuberant performances of historical repertoire. All of the group members are specialists in the historically informed performance, with many leading the way in cutting-edge research into earlier practices. The group are committed to an understanding of history but also to embracing the 21st century and new possibilities for performance spaces and techniques. Similarly, they are passionate both about discovering unknown early sources and also improvisation and composition.

Described as a pianist and musician of the highest calibre and commended for the electrifying energy of his piano performance (New York Concert Review), Rupert Egerton-Smith is increasingly in demand as a recitalist and concerto soloist after leaving the corporate world in 2020 to focus on his passion. He is Artist-in-Residence with the Orchestra of St. Johns and was appointed a Steinway Artist in 2025. We are thrilled to welcome him to Music in the Castle and his programme for us will include Bach-Busoni Chaconne and Beethoven Sonata No.21 "Waldstein".
Andrew Millington & David Davies - Organ & Piano
Andrew and David are no strangers to Music in the Castle and it is with real pleasure that we look forward to welcoming them back again. They began performing duets as musical colleagues at Exeter Cathedral several years ago. They devise programmes for the unusual combination of organ and piano and their programmes are varied and entertaining, including arrangements of favourite orchestral works. Their programme for us will feature early works for the organ and Schuberts Fantasia in F minor for piano duet.
Ewan Miller & Tomos Boyles - Oboe & Piano
Ewan and Tomos have been performing as a duo across the UK for three years. Together they have played at Kings Place, Wigmore Hall, and the Jacqueline du Pre building amongst others, and have an upcoming recital in Bridgewater Hall. Their unique and seasoned partnership was instrumental in Ewans victory at the 2025 Royal Over-Seas League gold medal competition. They take great pride in adapting new music for oboe and piano, and programming in ways audiences find novel and engaging. Their programme will hope to include a new arrangement of Johannes Brahms first Violin Sonata in G major. Ewan and Tomos are supported by The Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Toby’s Garden Festival is a joint collaboration by gardening broadcaster Toby Buckland and the popular magazine Country Gardener. We pop up annually in the stunning location of Powderham Castle, near Exeter, the 14th century family home of the Earl and Countess of Devon. Our main focus is to bring together the best nurseries from the West Country and beyond – including many well-known Chelsea medal winners – and host two days of quality gardening talks on a wide range of horticultural topics – all free to visitors. Add to that top-notch arts and crafts, locally-made street food to suit all tastes and free family music and entertainment and we hope to create a fabulous day out.

Created by Octopus Immersive, The Road to Happiness Ltd, and Bristol artist Jamel, this trail blends nature, art and cutting‑edge AR into one fun, memorable day out. Armed with just your phone or tablet, you can follow a special map to uncover fascinating facts, hidden secrets and incredible digital creatures that appear before your eyes. Watch a butterfly land on your hand, see a swarm of bees burst from a hive, or peek into the world exactly as a bug sees it. It's fun, surprising, and sneakily educational, the perfect combo for curious kids and nature‑loving grown‑ups.
