Meet one of the greatest, controversial and charismatic tennis players of all time at a special lunch for Sporting Club members and their guests on the eve of Wimbledon, 2026. JOHN MCENROE is not only one of the most famous tennis stars ever but has been for many years the most popular tennis commentator and pundit on worldwide TV. A seven time Grand Slam singles champion - three times Wimbledon and four times the US Open - with 77 singles titles to his name and ranked world number one for 170 weeks, he also won five Wimbledon titles in the men's doubles, with four more at the US open, 77 doubles titles and the only man in history to simultaneously be ranked number one in the world in both singles and doubles. He also won the Mixed Doubles title at the French Open and the Davis Cup five times. In a golden era that saw him pit his wits against the likes of Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Mats Wilander and many more Grand Slam winners, John played and beat them all. His confrontational on-court behaviour frequently landed him in trouble with umpires and tennis authorities which made him even more watchable as a sportsman and, as he mellowed and grew older, so his popularity rose more and more. We are very excited to be hosting John at this not to be missed occasion and guarantee an afternoon never to be forgotten.

Come and meet the England world cup rugby winning hero Lewis Moody at our Sporting Club October lunch at the magnificent Quaglinos, and hear a story of his stellar sporting career and an inspirational, present day journey. Lewis also won everything domestically with the Leicester Tigers, including seven Premiership titles and two European Cups. He played 71 times for England, twice for the British & Irish Lions, winning three Six Nations (and a Grand Slam) and of course the World Cup in 2003. Last October he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and has since thrown himself with the same vigour he tackled as a rugby player into an awareness and fundraising campaign driven by the expectation of finding positive answers to this cruel condition and creating a lasting legacy. We are delighted to be supporting Lewis, a long-standing friend of the Sporting Club, and look forward to another amazing afternoon including drinks reception, photos with Lewis, three course lunch and an in depth chat.
