Singin' I'm No A Billy, He's A Tim

Singin' I'm No A Billy, He's A Tim

22 May 2025 - 22 May 2025

Two hate filled rival football fans locked up in the same prison cell verbally lacerate each other while their teams assemble for the derby in the stadium nearby. In this crucible, Billy and Tim vent all their fears, bigotry, paranoia, misconceptions and, most significantly, the mutual loathing that has shaped their whole lives. The lads’ collision is not just a matter of football rivalry, but a very serious clash of cultures with all the deep-seated bigotry that that entails. Face to face with the object of their hatred, do they choose to destroy each other or to confront their demons and start a dialogue towards some kind of ceasefire? A potent allegory for peace processes all over the world, Des Dillon’s extraordinary, moving and hilarious “Singin’ I’m No A Billy, He’s a Tim” speaks for any divided culture where polarisation is inbred and prejudice governs reason. When drama is supposed to reflect society, what better arena than the sport that grips society most? “There’s more to football than football”.
Tom As Usual - A tribute to Sir Tom Jones
Sir Thomas Jones Woodward OBE, otherwise known as Tom Jones, is one of the greatest, if not the greatest singers these isles - or indeed any country - ever produced. At the age of 82, he still puts singers a good few decades younger to shame - and he’s still got it - he is indeed, still - THE voice!!! Should you get the chance to catch him live - then I strongly urge you to do so - no question!!! However, in the absence of that option, then the next best thing is definitely the simply sensational Robert T Leonard with his Tom As Usual Showband. Close your eyes and Robert IS Tom Jones - open them up again - and he’s STILL Tom!!! The look, the mannerisms, the moves, the accent - and most of all - THE VOICE!!! Astonishing vocals from an astonishing vocalist!!! And all backed by a superb band - who’s energy really brings Sir Toms classic songs to life!!! Robert started in the industry at the age of 13 and only four years later he released his first ep with his hard rock band at the time - swiftly followed by an album on Heavy Metal Records - which charted. The group also toured throughout the country with a variety of well-known bands and established a large following in the process. Bass guitarist David (Gibby) Gibson, who’d tasted chart success in France with his own bands ep - and who’d previously spent a year in London playing with a well-known professional drummers new group - met Robert and persuaded him to join the new outfit he was involved with along with guitarist Denis (Den) Curran and drummer James Clark, both of whom were experienced musicians and had played at festivals in the UK and abroad. The band - performing their own songs - went on to tour extensively throughout - building up a large live following in the process and attracting label attention. They eventually signed with a Welsh record company and relocated to the valleys to record their debut album.
Ward Thomas

Ward Thomas

12 Sept 2025 - 26 Nov 2025

Ward Thomas could tell that change was afoot from the moment they wrote Cartwheels, now the punch-to-the-stomach title track of their sensational second album. Straight away the sisters knew the song was special. What they didn’t know was that their second album ‘Cartwheels’ would sail to #1 on the UK Album Chart on release making them the first ever UK country act to do so. Cartwheels the album, as you might guess, contains a cartwheel of emotions and each song suggested its own sound. “Lyrically, it was much more grown-up than anything on our debut. Sonically, it was a move away from country to lots of other influences we grew up with – Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, KT Tunstall, some Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift’s Red album. We’re still influenced by country, we still adore the Dixie Chicks and Kacey Musgraves, but this isn’t just a country album.” In fact, the title track is among several on the album to shrug off country entirely, although the 22 year old twins’ beguiling harmonies remain their calling card. Lose Me is a fast-paced pop song that rocks out. The glorious Almost Easy adds strings and electronics to the mix. Bewitching ballad Who I’m Not is set to shimmering orchestration. Boisterous lead single Carry You Home is simply a storming pop song. The biggest change, however, was that the teenagers became adults. With their co-writers, they were four young women, sitting in a room, pouring their hearts out. They didn’t think in terms of genre, but of stories, emotions and coping mechanisms. They wrote about situations they had either experienced themselves or seen their friends go through. In extraordinary couplets they captured everything from deep friendship to deep despair, from loneliness and heartbreak to the joy of moving on, from feeling like a failure to the pleasure of heading to the hills to de-stress.

Here To Hear You - Dunoon

15 May 2025 - 15 May 2025

Over the next few months, the Chief Executive and Leader of Argyll and Bute Council are visiting communities like yours to hear directly from you. What do you think are the big issues, the key questions, for your community? What would you like to tell them about the place where you live? Is there anything youve always wanted to talk about, but havent had the opportunity yet? Communities are at the heart of the Argyll and Bute Council strategic Priorities which were agreed in September 2024. For council Leader Jim Lynch and Chief Executive Pippa Milne, hearing directly from communities is a top strategic priority in its own right and an important personal commitment theyre both passionate about. Jim and Pippa want to hear what local people have to say about the places where they live. Over the rest of the council term (up until May 2027) Jim and Pippa will be meeting with communities all over the area as part of a dedicated series of community conversations called Here To Hear You. They want to reach as many people and places as possible, and to hear especially from people who may not otherwise get a chance to share their views or speak up. By joining the conversation and talking with Jim and Pippa, what you have to say will help us to: Have a better understanding of the local issues where you live Join our voice with yours in speaking up on wider issues Find ways we can work together whether with you as the local community or with other agencies Hear what matters to young people and other groups, and ensure their views are considered in decision-making Helping us shape our own services Both Jim and Pippa will be ready to answer questions and share information if you want it, but they think its more important to hear from you first and foremost. This is your time, your opportunity to speak and share about what really matters in Dunoon, the place where you live. Youre encouraged to come along ready to talk on the day, but if youd like to send in any questions beforehand, you can get in touch at [email protected] ideally 24 hours before the event starts. You can also find more information about the Here To Hear You community conversations programme at our Here To Hear You web page or on Argyll and Bute Councils Facebook page. Were looking forward to hearing from you on Thursday 15th May 2025 in Dunoon. Join us at the Queens Hall, 9 Argyll Street, Dunoon PA23 7HH doors open at 5.45pm and the conversation starts at 6pm.
