In 2023, Simon travelled with legendary British mountaineer Mick Fowler to attempt the un-climbed north face of Patkhor in Tajikistan, but contracted food poisoning from their freeze-dried food on just the second day. After some debate, they continued, but this was just the beginning of a series of events that would see them run out of food, retreat below the summit in a storm and Simon taking a bone-breaking 100m fall during the descent. After two days of lying on the glacier waiting for a helicopter, rescuers finally arrived but were unable to carry Simon down. Somehow, he would need to summon the energy for the painful three day walk to safety. A survival classic, with the added twists of a fast-paced thriller.

The Martin Moran Round [17 min] Follows full-time staff nurse and athlete Robin Downie, who became the first person to complete the 'Martin Moran Round', an endurance challenge set amongst the rugged peaks and wild glens of the North West Highlands of Scotland. Inspired by the local mountains of his youth and Martin's record-breaking Munros round back in 1984, Robin dreamt up this epic challenge to raise funds for the Martin Moran Foundation and push his own personal limits.'These were Martin's local hills; he knew them better than anyone and shared them with many of us throughout his life. Martin spent lots of time investing in the community he lived in, especially in the young people. Hearing about his adventures and reading his books has inspired me to push and challenge myself even further in my love for hill running. The route crosses over 90 km of wild, pathless terrain, with over 8,890m of ascent, and includes 9 Munros and 6 Corbetts. Not only was Robin the first to complete this epic race, but he was also the architect of this new round, and we hope many more will take on this challenge. Directed by Jimmy Hyland Footsteps: [33 min] Following in the footsteps of the first all-female mountaineering expedition to the Himalayas in 1955, Footsteps follows a team of Scottish women exploring what success in the mountains looks like, environmentally, morally, culturally, and personally. Directed by Emma Holgate Finding Bo: [13 min] Finding Bo tells the story of how Scottish photographer Karen Miller fell in love with one mountain hare, Bo, and her journeys up into the snowy Monadhliath Mountains each winter to find her. The film tells the story of how Karen found herself as a photographer in the Scottish Highlands and how she fell in love with the threatened mountain hare. We see Karen take a different approach to her craft by forming profound personal relationships with the animals she photographs. Directed by Rachel Sarah The Pine Hunters: [11 min] Two intrepid ecologists journey to the loneliest Scots Pine in Britain to record the last of our ancient wild Caledonian forests. Directed by Ted Simpson Three Wheeled Drive: [16 min] Three Wheeled Drive is an inspiring film about three ordinary physically disabled cyclists: Neil, John, and Caroline. Exhibition on Screen: Frida Kahlo

Exhibition on Screen: Frida Kahlo

15 May 2026 - 6 Jun 2026

This highly engaging film takes us on a journey through the life of one of the most prevalent female icons: Frida Kahlo. She was a prolific self-portraitist, using the canvas as a mirror through all stages of her turbulent and, at times, tragic life. Guided with interview, commentary and Frida’s own words, Exhibition on Screen uncovers that this, however, was not a life defined by tragedy. "Seek a deeper understanding of the real Frida Kahlo..." Featuring key exhibitions and interviews with world renowned Kahlo curators, this film explores the extraordinary symbolism and themes in these personal canvases to seek a deeper understanding of the real Frida Kahlo. Using cinema to take an up-close and intimate look at her works we examine how great an artist she can be considered. Displaying a treasure trove of colour and a feast of vibrancy on screen, this personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works and highlights the source of her feverish creativity, her resilience and her unmatched lust for life, men, women, politics and her cultural heritage. We might think we already know Frida Kahlo – the image of floral crowns, big brows and folk style clothing have made her a muse to generations – but what lies beneath the surface of this intensely passionate woman?
