Voivod Very few bands survive for four decades. Even fewer are those that continue to reach new creative heights, long after legendary status has been achieved. Voïvod were never like other bands: even as the thrash metal scene exploded in the early ‘80s, the Jonquière, Québec crew stood apart, both as unique visionaries and as proud subverters of the metallic norm. From early prog-thrash classics like Killing Technology and Dimension Hatröss through to the psychedelic explorations of The Outer Limits, Voïvod have been standard bearers for individuality and creative freedom for nearly 40 years. Midnight Midnight is a band fronted by one Athenar, aka Jamie Walters, a guy who has had his hand in practically anything metal coming out of Cleveland over the years. Originally just a for-fun side project, Midnight has developed into a full-fledged band, and the formula is simple -- raw, NWOBHM-inspired fare, with heavy influences from bands like Tank, Motorhead, and a bit of early Venom as well. It's certainly not complex, and there's really not a lot of variation from song to song or album to album, yet there aren't a lot of bands playing this style these days and Midnight is surprisingly effective and entertaining. Texas-based alt-rockers Blue October are best known for their shimmering melodies and heart-string pulling lyrics, boasting a powerful line-up of players.

The Longest Johns are a Bristol based, acapella folk music band, born out of a mutual love of traditional folk songs and shanties. They rock maritime songs alongside the more unusual and less traditional folk tunes. I doubt any of Bristol’s The Longest Johns ever imagined they would be able to get so far on just four voices. In a few short years they have gone from singing sea shanties in a kitchen to International folk festivals, tours, TV appearances and gained a huge online following. As the face of the 2021 sea shanty revival with their track Wellerman, the Johns are reaching millions of new fans all across the globe and showing them just how great these songs can be.

American rock band the Dead Daisies includes some of the biggest veterans in hard rock: Guns N' Roses rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, bass player Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), keyboard player Dizzy Reed (Guns N' Roses), singer Jon Stevens (INXS), and drummer John Tempesta (the Cult), with guitarist Dave Lowy completing the supergroup. Rolling Stones bassist Darryl Jones, Whitesnake drummer Brian Tichy, and Nine Inch Nails drummer Alex Carapetis have also played with the band.

The Kentucky-bred hard rockers in Black Stone Cherry have had their music blared from speakers large and small, toured relentlessly with the likes of Nickelback and Motörhead, and debuted at #1 on the UK rock chart with their sophomore release, 2008’s Folklore and Superstition. In the face of these successes, the band members decided to put themselves to the ultimate test for the creation of their third full-length, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea: they took a year off from touring and focused all their energy on songwriting.

Nik Kershaw exploded onto the UK pop scene in 1984. A string of global hit singles including Wouldn’t it Be Good, The Riddle and I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me saw him languish for 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, making him the UK’s biggest-selling solo artist that year. In 1985, he performed at Live Aid. After stepping out of the limelight to concentrate on writing and producing, Nik wrote Chesney Hawkes’s The One and Only and collaborated with Elton John, Lulu, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Ronan Keating, Jason Donovan, Let Loose, Sia, Imogen Heap, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler. In 1998, Nik returned to performing and has been crafting critically acclaimed albums ever since.

This West Midlands-based band gained a significant following in the late 1980s with two critically acclaimed albums, 'The Eight Legged Groove Machine' and 'Hup'. Mainstream chart success followed with their third album in 1991, which included the hits 'The Size of a Cow', and 'Dizzy' performed with Vic Reeves. The band split in 1994, but after a seven year sabbatical, they reformed and continue to play their old numbers, along with new material.

Stephen Sanchez is an American singer-songwriter from northern California. Sanchez released his debut extended play, "What Was, Not Now" in October 2021. Sanchez gained prominence through a series of TikTok posts highlighting his singing and writing abilities.His most well known song is "Until I Found You", which, he says, was written about his girlfriend and also features her vocals. Signing a deal with Republic Records, Sanchez worked with producer Ian Fitchuk on his debut EP "What Was, Not Now" which was released in October 2021.

Having already placed his indelible mark on the future direction of rock with Hüsker Dü, Bob Mould teamed with bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis to found Sugar in late 1991, making their live debut early the next year at Athens, GA’s famed 40 Watt Club. Named by NME as its 1992 “Album of the Year,” Sugar’s now-classic debut album, Copper Blue, immediately proved a sensation, earning worldwide acclaim and landmark status for the melodic strength and intensely cathartic popcraft of songs like “A Good Idea,” “Helpless,” and the alternative rock radio hit and MTV favorite, “If I Can’t Change Your Mind.” The trio quickly found themselves performing on increasingly larger stages, including a legendary show-stealing set at London’s Great X-pectations Festival in Finsbury Park. With the wind at their back, Sugar unleashed Beaster in 1993, making a momentous debut at #3 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart as well as at #4 on Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart in the US. Though recorded during the same sessions that yielded Copper Blue, the six-song mini-album evinced a more visceral energy and dark melancholy than its predecessor, highlighted by such pulverizing expressions of sacrilegious fury as “Judas Cradle” and “JC Auto.” 1994’s second full-length LP, File Under: Easy Listening once again made an explosive arrival among the top 10 on the UK Official Albums Chart, this time landing in the upper reaches of the overall Billboard 200. The album saw Sugar pushing boundaries yet again on songs like the country-flavored “Believe What You’re Saying” and the incendiary “Gee Angel,” tackling a wider range of musical approaches without sacrificing their signature intensity and unrestrained power. Despite their successes, Sugar called it a day following a Japanese tour in early 1995. A series of live recordings, reissues, and anthologies served to magnify the band’s legacy over the three decades since, confirming Sugar as incontrovertible masters of high-volume guitar-fueled rock for the ages. The original members of Sugar reconvened in June 2025. The first new song in over three decades, “House Of Dead Memories”, was released on October 15, 2025, with live shows to follow in 2026.

OK Go is an American rock band originally from Chicago, Illinois, now based in Los Angeles, California. The band is composed of Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka, and Andy Ross, who joined them in 2005, replacing original guitarist Andy Duncan.

Formed in 1981 the band has a back catalogue spanning five decades and regularly performs new songs along with their well-known hits during live performances. The Sisters of Mercy are Andrew Eldritch, Ben Christo and Kai -- plus one additional key member, Doktor Avalanche, a drum machine/sampler/synth.

Known for a creatively languid style that has swung lyrically from highly personal alt-rap to morbid horrorcore, Earl Sweatshirt helped launch Odd Future into hip-hop prominence around the turn of the 2010s and has since remained among the most unique rapper/producers around. Since making his solo debut with the acclaimed mixtape Earl (2010), his first two albums, Doris (2013) and the seriously (and descriptively) titled I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside (2015), have placed in the upper reaches of the Billboard 200 chart. By the time he released his third album, Some Rap Songs (2018), Earl had either produced or appeared on tracks by most of the Odd Future affiliates, including Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean, as well as similarly left-field artists such as Danny Brown and Denmark Vessey. His fourth album, the tightly focused Sick!, arrived in January 2022, and the drill-influenced single "Making the Band (Danity Kane)" surfaced in 2023.

The Pogues are a Celtic folk rock band from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan. The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St Patrick's Day and across the UK and Ireland every December.

Dead Pony are an electrifying rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, known for their high-energy sound and genre-blending style. Fronted by the powerhouse vocals of Anna Shields, alongside Blair Crichton (guitar), Liam Adams (bass), and Euan Lyons (drums), they fuse elements of alt-rock, punk, and nu-metal into a sound that is both raw and infectious. Sell-out tours and 25 years in the ‘business’ are powerful proof of the power of the underground and the power of great live music. Renowned for their energetic live show, longevity has not diminished the Levellers’ ability to put in a performance and get everyone in a room, or field, dancing. Brighton folk-rockers Levellers have long been and still are, one of the best live bands around. But, often overlooked is their impressive back catalogue of recorded music. The Levellers sold more platinum, gold, and silver albums in the 1990s than any other act.

From the Jam features Bruce Foxton from the original Jam line up. He also spent 15 years playing bass with Stiff Little Fingers. Bruce is joined by Russell Hastings on lead vocal and guitar. Since breaking through in 1990 The Charlatans have become one of the UK’s most beloved and enduring bands, their indie roots the focal point of a sound that has taken in everything from psychedelia to soul and funk via country rock.

Skindred is a Welsh rock band from Newport. The band was formed in 1998 following the disbandment of vocalist Benji Webbe's previous band, Dub War. Skindred's musical style mixes alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock and reggae. The band also integrate elements of dancehall, jungle, hardcore, ska, hip hop, drum and bass, dubstep and various other influences into their music.

Riding The Low were formed in 2006 by Paddy Considine, after he had a revelation watching indie rockers Guided By Voices. The band are named after a quote from a Lee Marvin biography that Considine had given his father as a gift. Upon reading the book after his father's death, Paddy knew instantly that this would be the name of his band. All he needed now was to find the other musicians. Richard Eaton had been in bands with Considine since they were teenagers so it was a given Eaton would play bass. Through Eaton came Chris Baldwin and then Dan Baker on guitars, and with a revolving seat of drummers Riding The Low was born. Considine had written the bulk of what became their first EP ‘They Will Rob You Of Your Gifts’ but it was the opening track ‘Easy On Our Own’, punchy power pop with notes of R.E.M., that kicked off the songwriting partnership between Considine and Baldwin. ‘Easy’ gained airplay on Radio 2 and 6 Music, and culminated in a live Janice Long Session. The EP was put out on their own label ‘Clinical Finish’. Their debut album ‘What Happened To The Get To Know Ya?’ Was recorded in a day under a railway arch in their hometown of Burton On Trent. The band then recruited Chris Slusarenko, formerly of Guided By Voices and now Eyelids OR, to produce the album. Vocals and overdubs were done in Portland, Oregon and contributions included members of The Decemberist’s on strings and percussion. The album combined the bands love of punchy pop anthems with psych rock songs like ‘The Dizzly Doo Dah Man’ alongside more sprawling and ambitious cuts such as ‘His Love Affair With Americana Is Over’ which explores themes of disillusionment with working class life and the pointlessness of buying into the idea of ‘the system’. The track ‘Rocky 99’ became a fan favourite, and it’s instant appeal gained the band more radio play. Their next album ‘Here To Help The Neighbourhood’ was intended to be a step up in terms of recording. This time the band flew Slusarenko to Wales to the famous ‘Rockfield’ studios, where they spent more time laying the foundations. The resulting album was indeed a step up sonically, but the band were still struggling to find their sound, and learning to navigate the studio. The album produced some fan favourites like ‘Piss Parade’, ‘Bleeding Eyes At Breakfast’ the ode to hope ‘Beer Tears’, and what became a spectacle of their live show, ‘The Greatest Blast’. But it was the rolling stomp of ‘Heed’ that got the band more attention and more radio play. Their latest album titled: ‘The Death Of Gobshite Rambo’ saw the band finding their studio groove. Produced by Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden studios. ‘Gobshite Rambo’ is their most complete work to date. With songs like ‘Black Mass’, and fan favourite ‘Carapace of Glass’, the band sonically and lyrically explore themes of triumph and loss and have expanded their repertoire by introducing beautiful string arrangements and punchy brass. The album is galvanised by huge anthems ‘Wake Me Up When It’s Over’, ‘A Crisis Common Stuck’, and ‘Tommy Hawk’; the latter pays homage to Adam and the Ants with its Native American chanting on the chorus.

Fear Factory is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1989. Throughout the band's career, they have released ten full-length albums and have evolved through a succession of sounds, all in their main style of industrial metal. Butcher Babies is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, consisting of dual frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Ricky Bonazza, and drummer Blake Bailey.

It’s Kapee-chee It’s Ben Beetham (guitars, vocals), Eddie Lewis (bass), George Macdonald (drums), and Jack Wilson (vocals, guitars). Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night. These were the first of what became SLF’s signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut Inflammable Material. The album chronicles the band’s anger and frustration at “the Troubles” in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality. Over the years, their live shows continued to be special events of energy and power. Their studio albums demonstrate their passion and anger, each in its own way. In ’94 they released the Get a Life LP. The album helped renew interest in SLF just as newer bands that sited them as a major influence, such as Bad Religion, Sugar, Rancid and Therapy?, were coming to prominence. After many studio albums and countless tours, Stiff Little Fingers find themselves more in demand than ever.

The Temperance Movement are a British blues rock band formed in 2011 by Glasgow-born vocalist Phil Campbell and guitarists Luke Potashnick and Paul Sayer. The band released their Pride EP in 2012, and their eponymous debut studio album was released in 2013. Collectively the band have a rich history of experience, having previously played with Rooster, Ben’s Brother, Jamiroquai, Ray Davies, The Waterboys and Feeder.

Their hits include Disco Down, Chasing Rainbows and Going For Gold. Shed Seven is made up of drummer Alan Leach, guitarists Joe Johnson and Paul Banks, lead vocals from Rick Witter and Tom Gladwin on bass.
