Jack Badcock live at Rosslyn Court

Singer and guitarist, Jack Badcock is a hugely experienced performer, having toured throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, predominantly as frontman and founding member of his multi-award winning, internationally renowned world-folk band 'Dallahan'. He is a critically acclaimed solo artist and has also performed or recorded with Rura, Siobhan Miller, Adam Holmes, Dougie MacLean and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra among many others and was a finalist in the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award. His career has seen him perform at some of the world's most prestigious folk music events including Tønder Festival(DK), Festival Ortigueira (ES), Celtic Connections, (SCO) Woodford Folk Festival (AUS),Milwaukee Irish Fest (USA), Festival Dranouter (BE) and countless others. Raised in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland and later Yorkshire, England, before moving to Scotland as a teenager, Jack has a split national identity shared between the three countries. At eighteen, in Edinburgh, he formed a partnership with multi-instrumentalist Ciaran Ryan, touring the UK, Germany and Denmark. The duo would go on to form Dallahan in 2013, which rapidly became one of Scotland's busiest international folk bands. To date the band have recorded four critically acclaimed albums, earned several awards and many nominations and toured extensively on four continents.Having previously sung mostly original interpretations of traditional songs, In 2020, Jackbegan writing original songs, initially incorporating them into Dallahan's music before beginning to write and release solo recordings. In 2021, Jack released his debut solo EP, The Driftwood Project. Funded by Creative Scotland, the EP was drip-released throughout the year and show cased a plethora of musical influences and outlooks, featuring a large lineup of some ofScotland's most accomplished instrumentalists from the jazz, classical and folk worlds. It wasnominated for Original Work of the Year (Sponsored by PRS) at the BBC Scots Trad Music Awards 2021. He wasthen invited to write, arrange and perform the prestigious New Voices commission at Celtic Connections 2022 with a show of all-new original material with a six-piece band. In Autumn 2023, Jack went on tour throughout the UK as the support act for Eddi Reader, finely honing his solo live show in the process, before also performing on a lengthy touring Germany the following year. He then released his critically acclaimed debut album Cosmography, in May 2024 and launched it on a 16 date tour throughout England and Scotland the same month. The album, produced by Euan Burton (Kris Drever, Julie Fowlis) has been described by critics as a glowing galaxy of songs and affirmed Jack as a first class song writer. Jack Badcock is a singer whose solo material reveals an astute songcraft exploring enormously wide ranging subjects delivered with a musical sensitivity clearly influenced by American folk, funk and soul music as much as the traditional music of Britain and Ireland and all served with a healthy dose of storytelling and humour. Patakas live at Rosslyn Court

Patakas live at Rosslyn Court

10 Jul 2025 - 10 Jul 2025

Exceptionally talented brothers, Joe and Will Sartin, performing as Patakas (pronounced pa : ta : kus) are a skilful, innovative and assured acoustic duo bursting on to the folk scene. With Joe's sublime voice and guitar playing and Will's dexterous mandolin, the brothers beautifully and skilfully express the music-making and folk tradition that run through the very core of their family. They bring rhythms and innovative harmony to their fresh interpretations of traditional music and their own original tunes and songs. I saw Patakas perform at Broadstairs Folk Week last year and have been trying to get them to Rosslyn Court ever since. This will be a rare treat. WILL SARTIN - Mandolin, Bouzouki, fiddle, vocals Alongside his full-time course at Sheffield University, Will also finds time to dance with Five Rivers Morris and is an active member of the folk scene in the city and beyond. For many years, he has been part of the lively and well-known five-piece festival ceilidh band, Out of Hand. This experience shapes the selection and energetic drive of the tunes that Patakas arranges for their performances. JOE SARTIN - Vocals, guitar Joe has recently gained a first class degree in Music at Southampton and lives in his home county of Hampshire. In addition to developing his traditional folk repertoire, and penning original songs, Joe manages and performs with rock band, Mojo & The Royal Restitution. He composes music across multiple genres and is currently working on compositions for the video game market, other musical collaborations and projects in folk, jazz and rock; influences which contribute to the unique musical identity of Patakas. Both brothers were members of the National Youth Folklore Troupe of England (NYFTE) in their younger years. Debut Album: When Youre Ready EP, Wild Goose Records, 2023 This EP highlights what a skilful and innovative duo Patakas are. I hope we get to hear more from them.Thresherman, a 19th-century broadside, is an album highlight on which Will's beautiful mandolin lines trace silver around Joe's excellent vocal.. The instrumental tunes are equally joyous. Will's mandolin, once again to the fore, is playful, whilst his brother's guitar keeps the dancing feet moving. KLOF Mag (FOLK RADIO UK) As a debut recording, When Youre Ready is a very fine piece of work and if you ever worry that the folk movement may be running out of steam I urge you to listen to Joe and Will. - Folking.com A surprisingly assured debut. The tune sets provide a showcase for Will's speedy fingers, the highlight being his natty take on David Kosky's Mystery Itch, which manages the rare feat of leaping about whilst retaining a wistful air. - Tradfolk.co Rosslyn Court Expect a small, seated, friendly, quirky, listening venue with a heart we have a tiny bar selling beer, wine, cider and hot and cold drinks -nibbly stuff and always a cake. Jon Wilkes live again at Rosslyn Court
Jon Wilks Oct 9 2025 JON WILKS Lauded by Folk Radio (KLOF) as a rather special performer with an authentic and abiding love of traditional song, Jon is a prominent fingerpicking guitarist and singer who performs traditional English folk songs and broadside ballads, as well as his own songs. His talent has been recognised by Guitarist, one of the world's biggest guitar magazines, which featured him as one-to-watch in July 2022. Very much part of the UK's living folk tradition, Wilks excels at reanimating broadside ballads and antique pieces with a scholar's ear for vernacular and a dashing sense of verve on fingerpicked guitar. Wilks also showcases a trio of original compositions, at his eloquent best on poetic Soho encounter Greek Street. Uncut Magazine 7/10 With his background as a former editor of Time Out magazine and contributor to Dazed & Confused, The Guardian and other publications, Jon has a keen eye and ear for storytelling. During his live shows, he mixes entertaining folk song performances with fascinating tidbits about the original singers and collectors that he has unearthed during his extensive research on traditional folk music in the UK. Aside from being a talented musician and performer, Jon is also the founder and editor of Tradfolk.co, a website dedicated to the traditional music and ritualistic culture of England. Additionally, he is the presenter of The Old Songs Podcast. VIDEOS Traditional songs: Johnny Sands, Lofty Tall Ship, Tune: Gallons of Brandy, Original song: Greek Street MUSIC Jon has released four solo albums and one solo EP Before I Knew What Had Begun I Had Already Lost (2023), Up the Cut (2021), The Trial of Bill Burn Under Martin's Act (2019) EP, Midlife (2018), Songs from the Attic (2016) He co-arranged and performed tracks on Jackie Oates's Gracious Wings 2022 album and was a part of Slow Jane, the quartet that created videos of Nick Drake songs during lockdown. REVIEWS Sublime songwriting. Wilks is a rather special performer with an authentic and abiding love of traditional song. His enthusiasm for its history, and sheer joy at new discoveries, is palpably irresistible. Above all, it is a bloody good listen. Folk Radio Jon Wilks's Up the Cut explores the fascinating history of Birmingham street balladry, a thriving 19th-century industry, through simple, deeply affecting voice-and-guitar settings. The Lover's Ghost and Stowaway are especially beautiful, delicate with love and loss. Jude Rogers, The Guardian Up The Cut is a beautiful album. Affecting, simple guitar, exquisitely accompanied by Wilks authentic, honest voice. Folk Radio Another terrific, suitably spit and sawdust collection of traditional folk songs, many dusted down and rescued from obscurity and given a suitably robust Wilks treatment. Glorious. Folking.com Jon's passion informs his live shows, the songs liberally sprinkled with anecdotes, humour and history, his singing and personality hugely engaging. Painted Sky

20 Nov 2025 - 20 Nov 2025

Painted Sky Bio Painted Sky have only recently emerged onto the UK folk scene, but they have already made a lasting impression with their progressive acoustic sound. Siblings George Brandon (guitar/vocal) and Holly Brandon (fiddle/vocal) have been making music together for as long as they can remember. Both have worked on independent projects, with George performing solo and Holly, perhaps best known as part of transatlantic folk band, The Magpies. But the siblings have always been drawn back to each other's playing and tight-knit instrumentals and harmonies reflect the bedrock of their lifelong musical history. Original material thoughtfully balances the duo's roots in traditional English music. Their songs are characterised by honest vocals and timeless storytelling, underpinned by driving rhythms. Whilst their exquisite instrumentals weave delicate finger-picking guitar and soaring fiddle with a dynamic energy. After making waves with their EP - Dawn - in 2020, Painted Sky releaseD their debut album From The Blue in May 2024. Produced by award-winning singer-songwriter, Blair Dunlop, the record stands as a testimony to the siblings 20 years of music making. It feeds on a rich pool of English songwriting, traditional songs and ideas to deliver an album with a refreshing mindset, where waves of contemporary textures and arrangements make it feel like an album truly from the blue. Emily Portman live at Rosslyn Court

13 Nov 2025 - 13 Nov 2025

Emily Portman Nominated Folk Singer of the Year BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards BBC RADIO 2 Folk Award 2013 Winner Best Original Song with Hatchling Emily Portman is a former holder of the BBC Radio Two Folk Award for Best Original Song; an accolade which reflects her power to lure listeners into a complex and darkly surreal netherworld, conjuring a dark and brooding realm. Her ethereal voice belies a world of dark storytelling, cruel deeds and sordid city landscapes, part inspired by traditional balladry and part by rich literary sources, from the myth of Leda and the Swan to the magical realism of Angela Carter. Emily's album Coracle is ambitious, scaling new creative heights. Moving deftly between bare-boned tales of metamorphosis and songs brimful with fragile life, Coracle reinforces Emily's growing reputation as a dazzlingly original singer and songwriter. Her first entirely self-penned album, Coracle subtly weaves together themes from myth and folklore with personal reflections on motherhood and bereavement. With inspired production work from Andy Bell, beguiling harmonies sing out over an atmospheric, layered soundscape of harp, strings, bells, guitars, musical saw and percussion. Coracle features a stellar cast of guest musicians including Bellowhead's Sam Sweeney, guitarist M G Boulter and classical percussionist Toby Kearney as well as a sublime string section made up of the top UK folk players. The result is an album that sparkles with confidence and crackles with creativity. Emily Portman: vocals, concertina, banjo Praise for Coracle: Entrancing and unsettling. A marvellous, original work Observer A tribute to her powerful imagination Living Tradition Spooky and surreal Guardian Together with her previous two albums The Glamoury and Hatchlings, Emily has created an immaculate triptych of darkly brilliant songs. Elizabeth and Jameson - live at Rosslyn Court
Returning to Rosslyn Court by popular demand.... Hannah Elizabeth and Griff Jameson have joined forces to create an acoustic folk-roots sound which encompasses both their individual musical backgrounds. Hannah's influences are firmly planted in traditional folk-roots, whilst in contrast Griff has formed his musical reputation within folk pop/rock genres. Together, Elizabeth & Jameson arguably offer the best of both backgrounds; this is simplistic, classic song writing at its best - a stripped back harmony-driven sound with acoustic guitar, violin and exquisite vocals. As well as securing high-profile support slots on the UK folk-roots circuit, the duo have built up a strong following after spending the last few years touring folk and acoustic clubs and venues across the UK. Their debut studio album, Northern Shores & Stories was officially released in 2020 and has been receiving critical acclaim across the acoustic folk-roots community. Recent festival highlights include Cambridge Folk Festival and the Great British Folk Festival. Elizabeth & Jameson were awarded the NMG Award for best Acoustic, Folk & Roots Act of 2019, and were proud to open four shows for Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra as part of their 2019 Autumn/Winter tour. The duo's newest EP Dead Ends & Hand Me Downs was released in Autumn 2022 alongside a tour of live dates around the UK. Plans for 2024 include recording new material for their second studio album, and a busy schedule of live dates to showcase their new music far and wide. Roswell live at Rosslyn Court

11 Sept 2025 - 11 Sept 2025

A duo whose voices combine to create a seamless flow of rich, harmonic beauty' ~ Americana UK Jasmine Watkiss and Zoë Wren formed Americana duo Roswell after a chance meeting led to them being gently forced to sing together in a busy Cambridgeshire market square. Their musical chemistry was instantaneous and they've been singing and writing songs together ever since. The London-based multi-instrumentalists blend close harmonies with candid storytelling, drawing on experiences from mental health to family love to real-life activist adventures at sea. Roswell's sound, which has drawn comparisons to First Aid Kit, Fleetwood Mac and the Indigo Girls, has taken them from sold-out shows at London's Green Note to stages across Europe, including Costa Festival Ibiza and a showcase at MiCannes, France. Roswell has supported artists including Catherine McGrath, John Smith and Dea Matrona, and played festivals from Cambridge and Shrewsbury Folk Festivals to the Fête de la musique Genève. Winning Purbeck Rising in their first year as a band, Roswell's first release earned the title of Fatea EP of the Year, and the duo went on to be named winners of the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Competition. Fresh from tours in Germany and France, Roswell is currently working on their debut album with acclaimed producers and songwriters The Dunwells, with plans to release in 2025. Charlie Hannah live at Rosslyn Court

24 Jul 2025 - 24 Jul 2025

I live in Margate and make music in my home studio The Dojo. I have coined a micro-genre for my music - Domestica. It's songs about housework, hobbies and the human condition. Sometimes I perform on my own, and sometimes with a backing band. For my latest album - Thames Estuary Blue - I explore a new genre 'rock 'n' scroll'. Tom Kitching and Marit Falt live at Rosslyn Court
Author and musician Tom Kitching presents his new book and album, 'Where There's Brass', with a special storytelling and music concert show. Documenting six months living in the London waterways community, making the long journey across England from Manchester on a traditional narrowboat built in 1937, 'Where There's Brass' tells the story of the contemporary London waterways; a floating slum at worst, a bohemian, alternative, vibrant community at best. It is a love letter to the waterways, and a rallying cry for what they can be in the future. Stories old and new interwoven with a specially composed suite of music, underpinned by Tom's long term accompanist, the brilliant Nordic mandola player Marit Fält. This tour builds on the success of his previous work, most recently 'Seasons of Change', the stories and music from 18 months busking around England. "I'm devouring the book, not just reading it. The lad is one of the best fiddlers I've ever heard - he breathes life into the tunes. I didn't know he was also a very fine writer indeed. I've been a sucker for these books about these islands. Busking for his keep, with his feet on the pavement of the high streets and his hand sending music into the air, Tom is a wise and witty guide to England pre-Covid19." - Mike Harding, on Seasons of Change. Tom's debut solo album Interloper was listed at #6 in the Sunday Express albums of the year 2015. "There are dozens of folk violinists, but few with the attack, passion, and ingenuity of Tom Kitching. The most beautiful instrumental playing of the year." Culverake live at Rosslyn Court

Culverake live at Rosslyn Court

23 Oct 2025 - 23 Oct 2025

Culverake is a new traditional singing trio promising gusto and harmonies a plenty. The trio is made up of Seb Stone, Matt Quinn and Lizzy Hardingham, known for their traditional singing harmonies, together they breathe new life into timeless melodies. Matt Quinn is a singer and instrumentalist who's spent over 15 years performing everywhere from small folk clubs to Glastonbury and WOMAD. Primarily a mandolin and duet concertina player, he is also well known for his skills on the melodeon and as a singer, and is always in demand on the English folk scene. Known as one third of The Dovetail Trio, Matt currently works in the ceilidh bands Geckoes and The Discussion Topic, and in a mandolin/guitar duo with George Sansome (Granny's Attic). Folk-infused singer songwriter Lizzy Hardingham sings songs that drive straight to the heart, giving audiences a chance for genuine connection and empathy. Hardingham is paving her way as a powerhouse performer, with her wonderful voice grabbing listeners from the very first note and holding on until the last. Think Christine Collister, Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny and KT Tunstall all wrapped into one! In short, Lizzy has a dazzling combination of voice and songwriting talent that rarely appears. Seb Stone is a traditional singer, whistle player and uilleann piper from the Peak District. He draws on a varied repertoire of traditional English and Irish songs, focussing on the stories they have to tell, and their relevance to our modern world, singing them with understanding, sensitivity & strength. In 2022, he won Bromyard Folk Festival's Future of Folk award. Seb is also a keen session player, and when he's not poring over broadsides or field recordings, he can be found playing sessions in Sheffield's thriving folk scene. Matt Quinn and Lizzy Hardingham are no strangers to Rosslyn Court and we look forward to welcoming Seb Stone of whom we have heard great things. Brilliant! Thank you so much - a great way to spend the evening. Churchfitters Christmas Show live at Rosslyn Court
They are the most musically inventive quartet that I have seen in decades Dave PEGG The Churchfitters is a folk band like no other. A double bass made out of a saucepan. Heart-wrenching vocals accompanied by a musical saw or a glass harp. Foot-stompingly fast fiddle mixed with infectious funk-rock rhythms. And traditional tunes reinvigorated with mesmerising jazz sax. The three virtuoso musicians from England and France strut their stuff on a stage that bristles with instruments - adding flute, banjo, dulcimer, tin whistle, guitar, ukulele, electric hub-cap bass-bouzouki and a sackful of percussion to their ensemble. And let's not forget the unique bing-bong machine made out of hack-saw blades. Throw in some exquisite harmonies, a slew of startlingly original songs and a few jokes that create instant rapport and youve got a high energy show that always leaves audiences cheering. How do you adequately describe such a musically diverse, uplifting band You leave it to Mike Harding, a self-confessed huge, huge fan. He calls their music 'totally brilliant and beautiful'. Like Annie Lennox in full flow (Fab Nights Productions) - Londoner Rosie Short's achingly beautiful voice is equally at home singing husky blues, plaintive femme folk or ethereal originals. A talented songwriter, she's also a one woman orchestra, deftly swapping between flute, saxophone, banjo, tin whistle, dulcimer, ukulele and any number of things you can shake, rattle, or whack with a stick. Rosie's brother Chris is a feverishly fast fiddler who has the annoying habit of getting people, who were sitting quite comfortably, out of their seats and dancing. When required, he also plays slowly and most of the other speeds. A mean mandolin player, he sings great vocal harmonies too. Finally, he's a raconteur with a great sense of humour but then you need that if you play the musical saw. Part bass player, part mad inventor, Boris Lebret from Lannion (France) hates to play a regular instrument when he can cobble together a better one out of scrap metal. Like when he discovered four strings werent enough for his driving bass rhythms, so he simply reached for the Black & Decker and bolted on another six.
Jez Lowe live at Rosslyn Court

Jez Lowe live at Rosslyn Court

31 Jul 2025 - 31 Jul 2025

Over the past four decades, Jez Lowe has been one of the UK's busiest singer-songwriters, playing for audiences the world over, either solo, (with guitar, cittern, mandolin and harmonica accompaniment), or with his long-time band The Bad Pennies. He has taken his songs of North-East England to concerts and festivals all across Europe, Canada and the USA, as well as building a sizeable following in Australia and New Zealand. Along the way he has gathered a long list of awards and nominations, including from the BBC Folk Awards and the Sony Radio Awards. His pace and enthusiasm for writing, performing and touring shows no sign of waning. Jez Lowe's self-penned songs are among the mostly widely sung wherever folk and acoustic music is performed around the world. Over the last couple of decades, the likes of Fairport Convention, The Dubliners, The Unthanks, Wizz Jones, The McCalmans, Mary Black, The Duhks, Bob Fox, The Young Uns, Enda Kenny, Cherish The Ladies, Tom McConville, The Clancys and scores more, have queued up to adopt his songs for their own repertoires. No wonder no less than Richard Thompson has called him The best singer songwriter to come out of the UK for a long time, and personally invited him to play at Thompson's Meltdown Festival at London's South Bank Centre in 2010. Jez Lowe's contributions to the on-going BBC Radio series The Radio Ballads has cemented this reputation, with a Sony Radio Award among the many accolades coming its way. The project culminated in a live BBC Radio 2 broadcast In November 2018 to commemorate The Great War Centenary that featured Jez alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and narrator Michael Morpurgo. Jez is also known for his collaborations with fellow artists, notably a long-established partnership with Canadian songwriter James Keelaghan, and a recent duo stint with ace guitarist Steve Tilston that resulted in a best-selling album, The Janus Game in 2018. Most notably,as part of The Pitmen Poets (with Bob Fox, Benny Graham and Billy Mitchell), Jez has helped to rekindle the fire in the tradition of mining songs and culture of his native region in a series of sell-out theatre performances around the UK. As BBC Radio DJ Mike Harding said recently, No-one else writes or sounds like Jez Lowe, and chances are, even if youve never heard the man himself, youll have heard his songs, sung at festivals, club-gigs, open-mikes or on CD, by the great and good, the professional and the enthusiast, the young and not-so-young. What higher accolade could a songwriter hope for This is the second time Jez has performed at Rosslyn Court and on past experience a great evening is guaranteed. Jez Lowe is one of our finest songwriters. Robb Johnson live at Rosslyn Court

Robb Johnson live at Rosslyn Court

6 Nov 2025 - 6 Nov 2025

Robb Johnson is one of the most consistent and prolific songwriters of our generation. His work is both political and personal. January 2024 looked endless; I needed to do some recording to cheer myself up. The studio I usually use was booked all month, but before the disasters of Brexit & Covid Id met pianist Yves Meerschaut in Gent, and hed shown me his recording studio, Room 13, and that did have a couple of days free in January I decided to make a record of old songs that other people have liked, and / or that I play differently now, and/or that havent appeared on vinyl before. So, here, there's: Pennypot Lane, a fox song that people like, Winter Turns to Spring that was Tony Benn's favourite song, The Blue Sea Says Yes, a song about how the sea welcomes us all, heroic or fragile, equally in our mortality (something like that anyway) , that I had forgotten about till people started saying how much they liked it, More Than Enough, that Roy Bailey and Martin Simpson have kindly rescued from the obscurity of its previous appearance on a CD in 1992, Babbecombe at the Closing of the Day, a song about going to Babbecombe model village, At the Siege of Madrid which quite a few people like, but is one of those songs that always somehow eludes a definitive performance, A True History of Couscous, a song I like that is more or a less fictionalized autobiography, and lastly.. You Dont Have to Say Goodbye. This is a song from my first CD; Thames Valley folk-stalwart Terry Silver used to enjoy performing it so that afterwards he could shock audiences whod been happily singing along to it by revealing it had been written by that dreadful lefty Robb Johnson, It's also, more recently, a song our son Arvin likes very much too, and he graces this version with his characteristically modest tasteful Spanish guitar playing. He also nagged me into doing the artwork for the cover. Three of these songs are lucky enough to have Yves's breathtaking, exquisite piano playing embellishing them, and Sian Allen gifts Madrid some beautiful trumpet accompaniment too. But primarily, for good or ill, it's mainly me with an acoustic guitar. Jude Brothers and Clarke Camilleri live at Rosslyn Court
JUDE BROTHERS Jude Brothers is a freak folk singer-songwriter from Northwest Arkansas, inspired by the regional folk music of their Ozark home, while always reaching for the roots therein and branches thereout. Their sound is an eclectic blend of traditional sensibilities and contemporary concerns, a feral strangeness and delicate sweetness, an unnerving ancientness and an endearing naivety - an artist comfortable navigating their own contradictions. Brothers offers old school folk heads a taste of timelessness, evocative lyricism, and unparalleled vocal stylings over a bed of whirling harp & guitar melodies. CLARKE CAMILLERI Clarke Camilleri is a folk singer-songwriter from Nottinghamshire, England, whose music blends folk traditions with a life of discovery. With his banjo in tow, he's journeyed across countries, gathering stories that deeply influence his sound. Shaped by roles as a fisherman, construction worker, plasterer, and busker, his music is rich with authenticity and depth. These experiences have provided him with a wealth of stories, further enriching his songwriting. He reflects, "I love the access that being a musician gives you into other lives; I like being brave with it and seeing where it gets me. This music celebrates human connection, turns strangers into friends, and reminds us that there's hope in the shared understanding that were all on this human journey together. Ajay Srivastav with Vinod Keral

Ajay Srivastav with Vinod Keral

4 Sept 2025 - 4 Sept 2025

Ajay Srivastav This is the third time Ajay Srivastav has played at Rosslyn Court because everyone thought that his songs are just lovely - entertaining, with depth and toe tapping tunes. Between songs, Ajay gives just enough information to allow us to understand aspects of them and understand what it iwas like for him growing up second generation Indian in this country and aspects of that fascinating culture. Ajay Srivastav is a critically acclaimed musician who reflects the life and lessons learnt as a British born artist of Indian heritage, with uplifting songs of protest and change. His unique rootsy guitar style is layered with inflections of sitar and sarod. This ability to merge scales, and techniques from classical Indian music with slide guitar playing, are down to his continual search for commonality where there is difference. The fusion happened inside me what you hear is the sound of my varied experiences. Breaking down musical boundaries comes easy when youve spent your life living at the crossroads of different cultures. He will be joined on the night with Ajeet Singh on Tabla. A seasoned musician and performer, Ajay has played guitar in the studio and on stage with diverse range of artists including Gregory Isaacs, DJ Ritu, Jah Wobble and Zakir Hussain. Then, whilst visiting his ancestral home in the ancient city of Varanasi, he took the time out to draw on his experiences and influences to develop his own musical vison. His albums Karmic Blues and Powerless are the perfect antidote to the polarised times we live in, exploring issues of division, identity, mental health, inequality and faith. Often asking big questions and offering searing insights grounded in peace, positivity, and redemption. Listen in, youll hear a lifetime between those notes. Vinod Keral plays percussion, principally tabla. His precision and sensitive style enhances Ajay's songs, adding atmosphere and structure.
