Elles Bailey

2 Aug 2025 - 2 Aug 2025

To an artist without the creative energy and laser-focused determination of Elles Bailey, it could all have been very different. Moonchild Sanelly

Moonchild Sanelly

3 Aug 2025 - 7 Oct 2025

Determinedly doing things her own way and standing up for what she believes in has long been ingrained in the psyche of trailblazing South African musician Moonchild Sanelly, whose drive to succeed has been fuelled by personal pain and trauma. Growing up in Port Elizabeth with a hip-hop producer brother and a mum who would put her onstage from a young age to compete in dance competitions, Sanelisiwe Twishas music-filled childhood was full of creativity. Whether it was self-choreographing dance routines to Spice Girls tracks, teaching herself to play the piano, singing at church with her family, or starting to write poetry, expression and being artistically free was always encouraged.

Their music is bursting with dynamism, exploring push-pull dynamics that results in something ceaselessly unpredictable. It results in a sound that is rare for a new band: as experimental as it is confident and assured, as tender as it is visceral, as quiet as it is loud, as bloody as it is teary.
Cardinal Black

Cardinal Black

2 Oct 2025 - 1 Nov 2025

They say that good things come to those who wait. A little over two years after their launch, you could say that Cardinal Black are testament to the power of patience, thought and persistence. A debut iTunes #1 single and E.P.; a first gig to a hometown capacity crowd at Cardiff Castle; back-to-back sold out Academy tours with Myles Kennedy, then The Struts; a standing ovation at a Sold Out Royal Albert Hall supporting Peter Frampton; a live set recording in the Beatles’ legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road in London and a debut album that, within 24 hours of its release, had toppled both Taylor Swift and the Beatles from the top of Amazon UK’s album chart. An eventful first 2 years for any band. It takes years, so the saying goes, to become an overnight success... Rewind to 2010 and the Welsh-born trio of Tom Hollister, Chris Buck and Adam Roberts were riding a wave of hype, hotly-tipped by some of the biggest names in rock - most notably Steve Winwood who invited the band to record at his storied Wincraft Studios. A triumphant live set at Sonisphere was followed by a flight across the Atlantic to begin work on their first record, with veteran manager Alan Niven (Guns N’ Roses) at the helm. The lure of the U.S. proved irresistible to the nascent trio but, as is often the case, expectation rarely mirrors reality and the band struggled to adapt to the new country, culminating in singer Tom Hollister unexpectedly calling time on the band before returning to the U.K. “We tried to do the acrimonious split; creative differences and all that. We then quickly realised we were fairly reliant on one another,” says Buck. In the decade that followed, the lifelong friends cut their own individual paths whilst remaining close. Most notable has been the well-earned rise of guitarist Chris Buck, named in 2019 as ‘Best New Guitarist in the World’, who has forged a reputation as one of the most inventive and recognisable guitar players in music; winning plaudits from peers and the industry’s most iconic players alike. Drummer Adam Roberts found work as a first-call session player, whilst vocalist Tom Hollister moved into tour management - the three maintaining their musical connection by sporadically meeting up to perform together. It was just a matter of time then, before they were ready to make new music again. The writing and recording of new material began in 2020, under the name Cardinal Black, bolstered by the arrival of bassist Sam Williams. Fast forward to 2023 and the band embarked on an extensive European headline tour, culminating in an Americana Music Awards (UK) nomination for Artist of the Year. They may have taken the scenic route but Cardinal Black are finally here, and they've got plenty of stories to tell...

Tops

Tops

10 Nov 2025 - 18 Nov 2025

Tops were formed in Montreal when song-writing duo David Carriere and Jane Penny decided to join forces with drummer Riley Fleck. Since then they have become one of the most influential underground bands of the past decade, creating a space for sophisticated pop music in the indie world. Their tendency to opt towards making straight-forward, stripped down and honest recordings lets their pop songwriting shine out in the open. With a heart firmly attached to their sleeves, their songcraft delves into the emotional intricacy of personal relationships, asking questions about power and desire. Riley Fleck’s measured drumming and David Carriere’s trademark guitar licks mesh with Marta Cikojevic’s lush keyboards. All these elements work in tandem and in service of Jane Penny’s unmistakable, wistful voice. The result of this mixture is a collection of four self-produced records and a handful of singles that cover a range of moods and a complex emotional realm while maintaining a groove and musicality. Soft rock infused pop hits flow easily, surrounded by their signature moody ballads.

Ruth Lyon

Ruth Lyon

9 Oct 2025 - 23 Oct 2025

Newcastle folk/chamber pop artist Ruth Lyon found herself feeling like crap every time Vogue magazine dropped onto her front door mat, yet still she didn’t cancel her subscription. Even as the pages prodded at insecurities there was something strangely addictive about mindlessly flipping through it every month. The situation inspired the title of her second EP, Direct Debit To Vogue (2022), produced by John Parish, who has notably worked with PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding and This Is The Kit. The songs explore self-doubt, insecurity, emotional masochism, the weight of arbitrary expectations. All of this is un-ravelled through offbeat, sophisticated chamber pop and anti-folk, commanded by Lyon’s soulful vocals and witty yet raw lyricism. Over the years, she’s established herself as a key and active member of the Newcastle music scene, including in her role on the board of directors at Sage Gateshead and as lead singer of cult folk rockers Holy Moly & The Crackers. She has also advocated for the Disabled community in her work as an ambassador for Attitude Is Everything, a charity that aims to improve accessibility for Deaf and Disabled people in live music; Lyon herself has been a wheelchair user since the age of 21. The key themes that Lyon found were at the core of all these songs were power in fragility, and beauty in imperfection. This turns on its head all the societal assumptions represented by those Vogue magazines and opens up doors to a new kind of self-acceptance and power. “I want it to be very inclusive, like anybody could listen to any of the songs and come up with their own story, or it would mirror their individual circumstances,” she says. “I wanted to evoke the feeling of the kinda music that just punches you in the gut. Rather than ‘oh, this is pretty, this is nice’ — I want to emotionally drag some stuff out of people.” She concludes Direct Debit to Vogue’s journey with four simple words: “I’ve found my voice.”

Dominie Hooper 'in This Body Lives' Album Launch
“Endlessly engaging and thrilling” - Guy Garvey, BBC 6Music “Absolutely beautiful” - Shaun Keaveny “Spine-tingling” - Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland “Amazing, amazing track” - BBC Introducing Dominie Hooper is a London-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist crafting spellbinding music rooted in folklore, ritual, and emotional transformation. Her songs simmer with raw intensity and lyrical barbs, blending growling cello, textured guitar, and collective vocals into something dark, unsettling, and beautiful. Her debut single for Lost Map Records, Land, produced by Ben Hillier (Depeche Mode, Nadine Shah), is a powerful meditation on healing and self-reclamation. Written while reflecting on her upbringing in the wilds of Dartmoor, the track conjures a landscape of isolation, memory, and grounded magic. “It’s about choosing the path of healing, again and again,” Dominie explains. “Magic, folklore and myth offer archetypes through which we can flip our own script.” Dominie’s sound draws comparisons to the brooding drama of PJ Harvey and John Parish, the raw emotional weight of Magnolia Electric Co., and the timeless power of Richard & Linda Thompson. Her commanding voice and blistering live band have already earned her support slots with This Is The Kit, two UK headline tours, and appearances at festivals including Shambala, Deer Shed, and Moseley Folk. With early support from BBC 6Music, BBC Introducing, Radio 2, and RTÉ 2, plus backing from Help Musicians and PRSF, Dominie is poised for a breakout year. Her upcoming debut album, due for release in Octobrer 2025, promises to deepen the spell. As Under the Radar Magazine put it, “The breadth of her talent is immediately apparent.” Presented by Rough Trade. 14+ (Under 16s with Adult)
