Discovery Day – Here be dragons! Whilst pond dipping and hunting for mini-beasts in our Discovery Zone, we'll be focusing on the remarkable lives of dragonflies and damselflies. With jet-propelled bottoms, jaws that inspired the film 'Aliens' and wings that can be adjusted individually, these are just one family of awesome creatures you will encounter as you explore the 'Zone', before having a crafty time creating your own dragons.

Discovery Day – Pond dipping & Bug hunting. There are so many fascinating creatures that lurk and hunt in and around our lovely ponds and Discovery Zone. Explore the amazing underwater world and delve into life in the undergrowth to discover the hidden critters that live on the reserve. Help us make them a bug palace, before making your own bug hotel to take home and having a crafty time creating your own weird and wonderful mini beasts.

Lots of creatures can be found on our reserve, but which ones live where? Some are easy to spot, but some are hidden away and tricky to find. Join us as we look for some of our amazing creatures and reveal where they live and why. We'll also be making a home for some of our smaller creatures to live in, before getting crafty and making smaller ones you can take home.

Discovery Day – Who's on the menu? Whilst pond dipping and hunting for mini-beasts in our Discovery Zone, we'll be investigating what, or who, the different creatures we find have for lunch, and how they fit into the ecosystem. We'll also look at the special, and in some cases, weird adaptions they have to help them catch or harvest their food, before getting art and crafty.

Discovery Day – Grappling with grasshoppers! Whilst hunting for mini-beasts and pond dipping in our Discovery Zone, we'll be focusing on nature's long-jumpers, the grasshoppers. These long-legged leapers can easily out-jump an Olympian athlete, but there's much more to these captivating insects. Join us to find out more, before creating your own happy hoppers.

Moths and coffee! Join us for a brew and chance to encounter these fascinating insects. There are over 2500 species of moth in the UK and they come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some have the most incredible camouflage, while others are brighter and bolder than butterflies. We'll be introducing you to some of these marvellous creatures when we open our trap and there will be opportunities for photographs too. Duration 1½ hours.

Have you ever fancied watching bird ringing in action or wondered why we do it? This is your opportunity to come along to a public ringing demonstration, led by BTO qualified ringers. You will get to see birds up close, be shown how the birds are examined, measured and weighed, and learn more about their migration. Don't miss out on this chance to have a wonderful close-up wildlife encounter and learn about this important scientific role in conservation. Duration 2 hours £20 per person / £16 members
