Alfie Moore: Acopalypse Now

Alfie Moore: Acopalypse Now

17 Apr 2026 - 26 Nov 2026

The Four Horsemen of Rising Crime, Global Warming, AI and Culture Wars are galloping towards us. Are we on the road to hell? And can we avoid the potholes? In his brand new tour show 'Fair Cop' Alfie has the antidote to the breakdown of law and order, fake news and the price of baked beans. Somewhere in a parallel universe little Alfie’s natural comedic performance skills were recognised by his doting parents who encouraged and developed his blossoming talent. After several years as a stage school brat Alfie’s angelic face was launched on stage and screen and the rest is history. Meanwhile, in this universe Alfie Moore was told to stop messing about in class before being ‘encouraged’ into the grinding, grimy world of an apprenticeship in the Sheffield steelworks. When recession hit he traded steel for copper by joining Humberside Police. In his 40s the two universes collided when Alfie made a bid for showbiz success – but unfortunately 30 years of shift-work and being punched in the face quite a lot, had left him with ‘a face for radio’. A face not so much ‘lived in’ as inhabited by a settlement of squatters with little regard to property maintenance and repair.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale

The Spooky Men’s Chorale

27 Jun 2026 - 27 Jun 2026

The Spooky Men’s Chorale is a magnificent, many-headed beast which has single-handedly turned the world of men’s singing upside down. Bypassing well trodden avenues, they carve out new territories of mighty man sounds, exquisite tenderness, and charming stupidity to both celebrate masculinity and mock it. Formed in New South Wales in 2001, the Spooks have become rock-solid festival and theatre favourites in Australia, UK and Europe, with seven albums and 900 gigs under their belts. No subject is too trivial or weighty for their attention, and such ability to find new musical rooms to explore contributes greatly to their astonishing fan loyalty. The show evokes musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming, casually hatted, black-clad appearance. They are just a bunch of blokes, but where they take you will blow your mind. Don't miss an opportunity to see them Daily Telegraph Once seen they are never forgotten! Beautiful singing; very sharp and witty lyrics. BBC Radio 2 It takes a rare skill to be very silly, thoughtful, and sing in perfect harmony, but the Spooky Men's Chorale manage to achieve just that. The Guardian

Andy Hamilton's Night To Remember

Andy Hamilton's Night To Remember

23 Apr 2026 - 23 Apr 2026

Writer and comedian Andy Hamilton returns with a new one-man show where he explores the wonders and the weaknesses of human memory and how laughter oils the wheels of the brain. (Note: Andy is not a qualified neurologist and the brain probably does not have wheels.) In an evening of non-stop comedy, Andy will do his best to recall the nights to remember from his own life, as a writer, performer, producer, director, failed quiz show contestant, choir boy, under-rated footballer and cartoon elephant dentist. He’ll examine moments that have shaped his life and collective experiences that have impacted us all. So come and enjoy an entertaining, thoughtful, but above all very funny evening with a veteran master of comedy. He started as a professional comedy writer in 1976 as a contributor to Radio 4’s Week Ending. Since then he has picked up many awards for co-writing such classics as Drop the Dead Donkey and Outnumbered. Both were created with his friend Guy Jenkin, and together they also made the political satires Ballot Monkeys and Power Monkeys for C4, the sitcom Kate and Koji for ITV, and What We Did On Our Holiday, a feature film starring David Tennant, Rosamund Pike and Billy Connolly. On radio, he wrote many acclaimed series of Old Harry’s Game, where he played Satan, Revolting People, where he played a one-armed, one-legged degenerate, and Andy Hamilton Sort of Remembers, where he played himself. He pops up frequently on panel shows like Have I Got News For You and the inimitable I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. He has written three books, Blue Was the Colour, a memoir about his troubled relationship with football, and two novels, The Star Witness and Longhand, an epic tale which was, uniquely, published in the author’s own handwriting.

It was an amazing achievement. 1990 was a great year in Gooch’s career, he averaged over 100 with the test match at Lord’s against India being the highlight. In this one match Gooch hit the world record test run aggregate (456), he became holder of the highest score at Lord’s (333), he was the first ever player to score a triple-century and a century in a match, he took the record for the highest test score against India and achieved the highest score by an England Captain. Of all his great test innings one stands out in particular, at Headingley against the West Indies in 1991. Gooch carried his bat for a score of 154 not out, out of a total of 252 on a green wicket which was regularly enlivened by the damp weather. This was against an attack comprising of Ambrose, Walsh, Marshall and Patterson. In all Gooch led the England side 34 times and was captain in the 1992 World Cup final defeat by Pakistan. He played in two other World Cup finals in 1979 and 1987. Currently he is England’s 3rd leading test run maker with a total of 8,900 runs and 20 centuries.
