On Friday 22nd May at 7.30pm at The Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford University Orchestra are joined for the first time by Conductor Enyi Okpara Witter-Johnson - Bacchanale Hindemith - Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber INTERVAL Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5 OUOjoins forces with Conductor Enyi Okpara at the Sheldonian Theatre for a programme of Shostakovich, Witter-Johnson and Hindemith. The concert features Shostakovichspowerful 5th Symphony, a work of striking emotional depth, contrasting stark intensity with moments of haunting lyricism. Witter-Johnsons exuberant Bacchanale brings driving rhythms and vivid orchestral colour, evoking a spirit of uninhibited celebration. Hindemithsbrilliant Symphonic Metamorphosis completes the programme with brilliance and wit, transforming Webers themes into a vibrant and inventive orchestral showcase.
