Ouo Presents: An Evening Of Orchestral Dances With Daniel Hogan
On Saturday 24th May at 7.30pm at The Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford University Orchestra and conductor Daniel Hogan [https://www.danielhoganconductor.com/biography] present: An Evening of Orchestral Dances. Young conductor Daniel Hogan joins OUO in an evening of orchestral dances, featuring as its main item Rachmaninoffs electrifying final masterpiece, the Symphonic Dances . Entirely written in the United States, this work evokes a ghostly nostalgia of the composers Russian homeland, saturated with ecclesiastical chants such as the Dies irae, and enigmatic retrospections on his earlier works the First Symphony and All-Night Vigil. John Adams captivating The Chairman Dances , an outtake from his first opera Nixon in China portraying Chairman and Madame Maos exuberant foxtrot, will open the concert, alongside the Dance Suite from Ginasteras Estancia , a lively ballet inspired by the epic Martin Fierro by Jos Hernndez saturated with spirited Argentinian rhythms.

Following the success of our last concert featuring soloist Tom Bruges in Rodrigos Concerto de Aranjuez and selections from the ballet Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, OUPhil are delighted to return to the Sheldonian Theatre under the baton of newly appointed conductor Joe Sollis. We will be bringing you a vibrant and eclectic programme featuring Dvoks iconic Symphony No.9 (from the New World), preceded by Florence Prices mesmerising Concert Overture No.2 and the dynamic Danzon No.2 by Arturo Mrquez. Join us for an exhilarating evening of orchestral music from across the American continent where the orchestra are set to shine with their versatility and virtuosity!
