Shibden Hall and Folk Museum

Located just a mile from Halifax, Shibden Hall dates back to 1420 and its architecture reflects its age with a mixture of styles. The 17th century aisled barn and workshops house a carriage collection and displays. Shibden Park surrounds the hall and features a cafe, miniature railway, boating lake, pitch and putt, and more.

Meet the Tudor Estate manager! Shibden hall is transported back to the end of the 16th Century, where life was vastly different yet somewhat familiar! Say hello to our Tudor resident and learn about the area in Tudor England. Hear stories from the 16th century and understand how trade, commerce and society shaped everyday life. Get hands on with real Tudor objects, experience Tudor customs, and have a go at some Tudor dancing! This event is included in your regular admission ticket price on the day. You may wish to book your admission ticket online in advance as we expect these event days to be popular.
Home Educators Workshop: Decoding Anne Lister
A free workshop for homeeducating families, supported and funded by Museum Development North. Step into the world of Anne Lister and explore her home, her travels, her businesses, and her remarkable approach to writing and recording her life. 10:00am12:00pm workshop session Families are very welcome to stay on after the workshop to continue exploring the Hall independently at their own pace. Activities include: A guided house tour focusing on key rooms linked to Anne Lister Coded diary writing, inspired by Annes famous secret writing style Handling historical objects from domestic life in the 1830s Travelling with Anne examining objects from a recreated travelling trunk Anne Listers businesses exploring her estate, tenants, coal pits, and decisionmaking To allow as many families as possible to attend and to manage space within the rooms, the session will be split into two halves. During the workshop, attending families will divide into two smaller groups, each accessing different activities before swapping halfway through, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience everything on offer. Activities will be guided by workshop leaders, including a led tour. However, families who would prefer to explore the Hall more independently are welcome to do so. Important information: This workshop is designed for homeeducating families with children aged 612 (KS1KS2 focus). Younger and older children are welcome, but activities are planned with this age range in mind. We have scheduled this morning during a quieter time at the Hall with no other school or group bookings to help reduce crowds, however, please note that other members of the public may still be visiting. Each child attending must have their own booked place. Adults do not require a ticket, but attendance is limited to a maximum adulttochild ratio of 1:1 to allow more families to take part. Parents and carers must supervise their children at all times during the event. Thanks to the support of Museum Development North, this event is completely free, but booking is essential. As places are limited and funded, if you can no longer attend, we kindly ask that you cancel your booking as soon as possible so another family can join us. Shibden Admission and Pastime with Good Company
11.30 am to 12.15 pm, 12.45 pm to 1.30 pm, 2.00 pm to 2.45 pm Enjoy live music from the 1500s to the 1700s while you look round Shibden Hall. Tenor David Simcock and harpsichordist Robin Terry will perform music from Henry VIII to Handel. This musical tour of 250 years will also include pieces by William Byrd, John Dowland and Henry Purcell. This event is included in the price of your regular admission ticket on the day but we do suggest booking your ticket in advance online as we expect this event day to be popular.
