A free workshop for homeeducating families, supported and funded by Museum Development North.
Step into the world of Anne Lister and explore her home, her travels, her businesses, and her remarkable approach to writing and recording her life.
10:00am12:00pm workshop session
Families are very welcome to stay on after the workshop to continue exploring the Hall independently at their own pace.
Activities include:
A guided house tour focusing on key rooms linked to Anne Lister
Coded diary writing, inspired by Annes famous secret writing style
Handling historical objects from domestic life in the 1830s
Travelling with Anne examining objects from a recreated travelling trunk
Anne Listers businesses exploring her estate, tenants, coal pits, and decisionmaking
To allow as many families as possible to attend and to manage space within the rooms, the session will be split into two halves.
During the workshop, attending families will divide into two smaller groups, each accessing different activities before swapping halfway through, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience everything on offer.
Activities will be guided by workshop leaders, including a led tour. However, families who would prefer to explore the Hall more independently are welcome to do so.
Important information:
This workshop is designed for homeeducating families with children aged 612 (KS1KS2 focus). Younger and older children are welcome, but activities are planned with this age range in mind.
We have scheduled this morning during a quieter time at the Hall with no other school or group bookings to help reduce crowds, however, please note that other members of the public may still be visiting.
Each child attending must have their own booked place.
Adults do not require a ticket, but attendance is limited to a maximum adulttochild ratio of 1:1 to allow more families to take part.
Parents and carers must supervise their children at all times during the event.
Thanks to the support of Museum Development North, this event is completely free, but booking is essential.
As places are limited and funded, if you can no longer attend, we kindly ask that you cancel your booking as soon as possible so another family can join us.
