The Vaselines

The Vaselines

20 Dec 2025 - 21 Dec 2025

The Vaselines were formed in Edinburgh in 1987 by singers/guitarists Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, soon signing to Pastels frontman Stephen Pastel's newly formed 53rd 3rd label. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain regularly cited the Vaselines influence in interviews with the music press and Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' Molly's Lips and Son of a Gun (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as perform Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on their legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Cobain's gospel-spreading no doubt accelerated their rise to cult sainthood, but the Vaselines would have gotten there sooner or later on their own accord. Lewd but nave and abrasive yet tender, the band's shambling, primitivist squall remains a perfect distillation of pop at its most guileless and euphoric.Eugene Kelly later went on to front Captain America / Eugenius, while McKee spent the better part of the decade out of sight, resurfaced in Suckle, and released a solo album in 2006. The Vaselines reunited proper in 2010 to record their second full album Sex With An X which was released on the Seattle label Sub Pop.This was followed by V for Vaselines in 2014. The Ramones inspired album featured many of the same players who helped make 'Sex.....', including Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, the 1990's Michael McGaughrin and Teenage Fanclub's Francis Macdonald.

The Leylines

The Leylines

30 Aug 2025 - 4 Oct 2025

British folk-punk for a summer's afternoon, a sound forged in festivals and bonfires, with fiddle-driven rabble rousers and songs that stir the soul. The Leylines was started by a group of West Country musicians driving home from a session at the legendary Sawmills Studios. Levelling The Land by The Levellers was on the car stereo. Something about the sound of the record, the rolling Cornwall landscapes and the smell of summer connected in writer and vocalist Steve's head.Steve, a product of council estates and stints in the Army, put his observations on the state of the nation into music and started writing. Adding the different musical backgrounds of band mates Matt (Guitar), Pete (Bass), Dave (Drums) and Hannah (Violin), The Leylines have created a style that combines the acerbic social commentary of the Mod and Punk eras, and a folk-rock vibe that will send you right back to those long, hazy festival days. The band saying is: If you wouldn't go out and have drink with someone, don't work with them. With a fiercely loyal and ever-growing fanbase, The Leylines guaranteed to have their audiences up on their feet and they will be having as much fun as their audience while they're doing it!
Origami Angel

Origami Angel

16 Aug 2025 - 22 Aug 2025

Feeling Not Found, the third full-length record from Washington, D.C. duo Origami Angel, is the one—the rare, undeniable piece of work that defines a sound, a moment, a subculture, a band’s position in the continuum of music. Vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty have been building to this record since they started the band in 2016, growing it quickly into one of the most exciting and volcanic bands in the American punk and emo communities. A 14-track epic recorded with producer Will Yip at his Studio 4 Recording, Feeling Not Found revolves around the deeply modern experience teased in the title: an emotional and spiritual 404 error, a sensation of cellular-level malfunction and data corruption, of being lost in an oblivion of digital information, and the desperate struggle to reconnect to how it feels to be human and whole Presented by CHALK. Punishment of Luxury

Punishment of Luxury

5 Dec 2025 - 5 Dec 2025

Legendary post punk band Punishment of Luxury bring their totally original brand of new wave to Sheffield, 46 years after their last performance at the Limit Club. 1979 was also the year that the band released their highly acclaimed album, 'Laughing Academy'. The album, produced by Gong's Mike Howlett, brilliantly showcases this seminal band, their brilliantly crafted songs and intelligent lyrics which were streets ahead of their peers. However, it was in the live setting that the band really excelled with their highly visual performances and a sound that merged punk and prog but also added theatre into the mix. They have often been named as a major influence by many performers who have gone on to develop their own style of left field, alternative music. Still in the line up that made Laughing Academy, consisting of Brian Bond, Nevilluxury, Steve Sekrit and Jimi Giro, this promises to be an unforgettable night of theatrical post punk, performed by the undisputed masters of their art. Support for the evening will be Bones Park Rider who create biting alternative rock with a new wave slant. They are promoting their third album 'The Comfort of Nightmares' which is being released in 2025 on Hepcat records.

Jess Silk & Joe Solo - SHEFFIELD

Jess Silk & Joe Solo - SHEFFIELD

9 Nov 2025 - 9 Nov 2025

Due to popular demand after their co-headline tour at the end of 2024, Joe Solo and Jess Silk are joining forces again this November (2025) to bring their particular brand of often political folk/punk music to venues across the country. With special guest Steve White (Steve White & the Protest Family) Jess Silk https://jesssilk.co.uk Jess Silk is a guitarist, singer and songwriter from the Black Country. Her shouty but melodic brand of folk/punk music gets people sitting up and listening. Armed only with an increasingly sticker-covered acoustic guitar, lyrics right from the heart and a distinctive, gravelly voice that many don't expect, Jess plays to audiences up and down the UK and has shared stages with many well known names among the folk/punk scene. Jess released her debut album, Break the Bottle, in May 2018 with a packed out show at her spiritual home of Katie Fitzgerald's in Stourbridge. Since then she's shared a number of other releases including two live EP's with tracks taken from shows at Katie's and HMV Merry Hill. 2020 saw the world shut down and Jess release two (almost completely) self produced EPs, the first of which, If Were Damned, was put together from songs that had been gathering metaphorical dust on her hard drive, and the second, There's A Bar At the End Of the World, a collection of songs written between March and August taking their inspiration from the events of the year. At the end of August 2021 Jess released her second full-length album Blitz Spirit, and in April 2025 will be releasing her next EP which was recorded at Metway Studios in Brighton. In recent years Jess has appeared at a number of festivals including Bearded Theory, Rebellion, Beautiful Days and Glastonbury where she shared a stage with Billy Bragg as part of his Radical Roundup on the Left Field stage. In March 2023 Jess played six shows supporting the Levellers and she continues to tour around the UK playing festivals, supports and her own headline tours. Joe Solo https://joesolomusic.com Joe Solo is an award-winning musician, writer, poet, activist, broadcaster and washing machine engineer from Scarborough. His musical odyssey began in 1987 fronting a bash-em-out band at school, and has seen him play nine countries either as lynchpin of pop-punk upstarts Lithium Joe or hammering out his unique brand of Folk, Punk and Blues in his own right. On top of releasing twenty one albums since 2004, Solo has written a series of children's books for Unison on social justice and equality; ran a research project on the Hull Pals Battalions in the First World War; hosts a weekly radio show; had one of his poems used in an international campaign to educate on dementia awareness; co-runs May Day Festival of Solidarity an annual event bringing together voices from music, poetry and politics to celebrate International Worker's Day; and has opened for the likes of Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott, Billy Bragg, TV Smith, Grace Petrie, Pete Wylie, and The Blockheads; whilst his songs have been played by John Peel on Radio One, Mike Harding on Radio Two and Tom Robinson on BBC6Music. In 2024, Joe's album Sledgehammer Songs made both the Top 40 of the Official UK Folk Chart, and the Official Album Download Chart, and the resulting tour raised £12,435 for community causes. Live, Solo has a growing reputation as both a performer and raconteur, being both thought-provoking, comical and punch-the-air political often in the same breath. He is not an artist you forget in a hurry. Steve White https://protestfamily.com/

Modern Nature (Bella Union) + support
Modern Nature will tour the UK this autumn in support of their new album The Heat Warps, out 29th August via Bella Union. Led by frontman Jack Cooper (of Ultimate Painting), Modern Natures recent records have reflected an insular life. Cooper had moved out to the countryside in 2021 and had, in his words, been hibernating while he started a family. Now joined by new member Tara Cunningham as well as longterm bandmates Jim Wallis and Jeff Tobias, this new band was a symbol for Cooper's reawakening and the perfect vessel for him to continue to explore themes that hes sung about with Modern Nature collectivism, our relationship with the natural world, the weight of consciousness but with more directness and purpose. For all that the new album wrestles with the grimmer realities of 2025, The Heat Warps is ultimately not a record entirely consumed by anxieties. Its frequently beautiful sounds offer consolation and a wide-eyed optimism amid all the upheaval. Modern Nature is a group that blurs the lines between folk music, modern composition and improvisation. Since 2019, they have released three critically acclaimed albums and a host of other material that includes an instrumental album, a short record called Annual and four cassettes of improvised music.

Andrew Cushin

Andrew Cushin

14 Oct 2025 - 25 Oct 2025

Andrew Cushin possesses a nuanced, multifaceted talent for songwriting. The words that he conjures are both immensely personal and reflective of modern social issues, but those serious themes are delivered through songs with huge, pints-in-the-air singalong appeal. It’s a talent that’s winning a growing army of admirers, most notably Noel Gallagher, who produced and performed on Andrew’s previous single ‘Where’s My Family Gone’. Andrew’s ongoing discovery continues today as he releases just his fourth single, ‘Memories’. It’s a song which finds the 21-year-old artist poignantly exploring the idea of what masculinity means in the present day. There’s undoubtedly a real bravery in putting such vulnerable emotions in full view of the world at large, but that heartfelt honesty has been the driving factor behind all of his releases to date.

Prolapse

Prolapse

27 Oct 2025 - 27 Oct 2025

Upset The Rhythm presents... PROLAPSE Saturday 29 October OSLO, 1a Amhurst Road, Hackney Central, E8 1LL 7.30pm | £12 PROLAPSE originally formed in Leicester in the early 1990s and earned a cult following for their chaotic live sets, and tense and repetitious songs like Flex and Tina This Is Matthew Stone. They feature duelling vocalists Mick Derrick and Linda Steelyard, who play out an intense soap opera over a ferocious triple guitar assault and pummelling rhythm section. Their releases have included numerous singles and four albums on various labels, including Cherry Red and Radar, as well as recording four Peel sessions. The band has received critical acclaim, including singles of the week on the Radio 1 evening session and NME. They have also toured and shared bills with a diverse array of bands, including Stereolab, Sebadoh, Arab Strap and Sonic Youth. Pavement's Stephen Malkmus described Prolapse as the best band of the weekend at Reading Festival. After a long hiatus, the band reformed in 2015 and occasionally play live dates. This short UK tour offers a rare chance to experience the Prolapse live show. Two of the band's Peel sessions have recently been released on the Precious Recordings of London label and Pointless Walks to Dismal Places is re-issued as a double gatefold LP on Optic Nerve Records in July. https://prolapse2.bandcamp.com/
Fortitude Valley + Precious Metals + Big Other
The next MMIS show is guaranteed to improve your life. We're bringing Fortitude Valley to town - the DIY/indiepop supergroup who offer up irresistible tunes packed with hooks and hope. With support from Sheffield's very own infinitely charming Precious Metals plus Manchester/Sheffield upstarts Big Other. Fortitude Valley Fortitude Valley is the brainchild of Laura Kovic. Taking influence from the likes of The Beths, The Go-Go's and Pavement. What results is a ludicrously addictive cocktail of heart-stopping indie-punk power-pop melody and a back catalogue of songs thatll be living in your head, rent free, for evermore. The band has shared a stage with Los Campesinos!, Allo Darlin', Gruff Rhys and The Wave Pictures. Laura previously played in psychedelic pop band Tigercats, and the band also includes members of Martha and Fast Blood. Precious Metals Precious Metals formed in Sheffield in 2018. Their beachcombing post-punk riffs, psychedelic keys and earworming alternative pop harmonies have the band surfing somewhere on the Pacific Ocean between 90s Olympia and Connan Mockasin's tripped-out New Zealand. Their lyrics are inspired by bottled messages found in post-industrial waterways, the social politics of Cold War Germany, Mongolian wildlife or, in the case of Portholes, were written entirely by a pair of schoolgirls from Rotherham. Big Other Big Other are an alternative indie rock band from Manchester who take inspiration from Sonic Youth, the Pixies, Veruca Salt and Fugazi. Their sound has been described by reviewers as "screeching and sprawling ... with compelling and quick-witted lyrics" and "a gripping wall of sound".
Prolapse

Prolapse

27 Oct 2025 - 27 Oct 2025

Prolapse formed in Leicester in the early 90s and are now spread across the UK and Scandinavia. Still pursuing their own path of repetition and twisted melodies, they merge influences from post punk to krautrock and even folk. Their previous releases have included numerous singles and four albums on various labels, including Cherry Red and Radar. They feature vocalists Mick Derrick and Linda Steelyard, whose intense duelling vocals combine with ferocious triple guitar assault and pummelling rhythms. The fifth Prolapse album “I Wonder When They’re Going to Destroy Your Face” will be released on Tapete Records and marks the bands first new recordings since their last album, “Ghosts of Dead Aeroplanes”, released 26 years ago, but in some ways it feels like there hasn’t a break at all. From the opening incessant riff of ”The Fall of Cashline”, Prolapse set their stall out, hammering the message that they’re back, over and over (and over and over) again. The album cover is a photo of a broken mirror the band discovered in a skip in South London whilst on tour. If you look closely, you can make out blurred images of the vocalists staring into it. The first new sound to be heard from Prolapse this millennium, the opening beer can of ”On The Quarter Days“, the return single, perhaps gives an insight into the short, sharp, creative sessions that produced this album. Despite the elapsed 10 years of reformation Prolapse, now actually longer than they existed in the 90s, the time together has been all too brief, gigs every couple of years, writing sessions even rarer. The album was mainly written in Leicester and recorded at Foel Studio in Wales. Some songs had been evolving for a few years whilst others (three on the album) were improvised and recorded on the spot, just like they’ve always done. Get ready, turn the microphones on, press record.... and something just happens. Perhaps channeling some of the ghosts that have previously recorded at Foel: Amon Düül II, the Groundhogs, Young Marble Giants, My Bloody Valentine and inevitably The Fall. “Err on the Side of Dead” is one of these songs; it grinds and gnaws away, gradually changing until Linda eventually yells “I hate, I hate, I hate”. The supernatural appears again, with “Ghost in the Chair”, perhaps the album’s stand out track, not exactly like the Prolapse you know, but very much the Prolapse you want to come back to now. It starts off sleepy and eerie, as a kind of displaced therapy session between Mick and Linda, before developing into a wash of noise near the end. The second single ”Cha Cha Cha 2000”, brings Prolapse into a more dare we say ‘jaunty’ sphere, with Mick recounting a dreamlike escapade with Canned Heat, Donovan and Cat Stevens, not regular touchstones in the 90s, but time brings a new perspectives. “Ectoplasm United” is a messy but melodic maelstrom, which has also recently had a Faust remix (this will be available on a separate 7 inch single with the vinyl release of the album on Tapete Records). The last words of the album are said by Linda Steelyard, recounting a tale of arriving at Leicester Forest East Services, and deciding to stay....forever Please Please You & Brudenell Presents... 3 Oct 2025 - 3 Oct 2025

DRIVEN SERIOUS Driven Serious is a five-piece original folk-rock band based around Newcastle upon Tyne. They've been on the circuit for 12 years and released two LPs and an EP. Their high octane performance is something which has made them unforgettable. Driven Serious new album: "Look On These Works is an incredibly engaging listen, whether it's the monumental sounding strings that carry us through this adventure, or the war-like drums at the start of the title track, it's an impressive experience." - Narc Driven Serious performance: " I suppose you could file Driven Serious under the banner of folk-rock; but they are so much more than that. They have a vibrancy that you can virtually see thrumming off them when they play, passionate and with the hand-brake well and truly off, and with a vibe that has had people likening them to The Levellers to The Pogues to The Smiths to The Wonderstuff" The Crack https://www.youtube.com/watchv=qelud0_upnM
