KINDRED SPIRITS represents the coming together of three of the UK’s most enduring 80’s alternative rock acts to create an unmissable triple bill of dark and atmospheric post punk music in a truly unique East London venue. Balaam And The Angel: formed in 1984 by the Morris brothers, have performed for 40+ years. They gained mainstream recognition with Virgin Records and "I'll Show You Something Special" (featured in "Trains, Planes And Automobiles"). The band recently released a 4 track EP "Forces Of Evil". Decolonise Fest is a London-based music festival created by and for people of colour in the punk scene. Over the weekend we will host music, panels, and workshops that celebrate the contributions of punx of colour. Passion, punk and solidarity will be the order of weekend when Decolonise Fest - a UK DIY punk festival created by and for people of colour - returns next month. This year’s festival will take place from Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th September at Signature Brew Walthamstow in East London, with an all-new lineup looking to pick up where former Decolonise Fest alums like Nova Twins, Bob Vylan, Big Joanie and Grove have left off in previous years. The festival will uplift and stand proudly with Palestinians amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as well as featuring a wealth of music and workshops designed to centre and celebrate the contributions of people of colour to alternative music. Over the past three decades or so, Jah Wobble has ploughed his own furrow as a prolific solo artist, as well as becoming a well-respected session musician, with genuine passion for Eastern and Global music. He has worked with a diverse range of musicians, including Baaba Maal, Bjork, Primal Scream, Brian Eno, Sinead O'Connor, Julianne Regan, Delores O'Riordan, Holgat Czukay, The Edge and Chaka Demus & Pliers. The man born John Wardle began his musical journey when he met John Lydon and Sid Vicious at Kingsway College, London in 1973. It was Vicious who not only nicknamed John 'Jah Wobble' after a drunken binge but also loaned him his first bass guitar. Lydon asked JW to join Public Image Limited (aka PiL) in spring 1978. Wardle's distinctive 'low end' bass became the backbone of PiL's pioneering sound. After its follow-up, the exploratory yet sinister soundscapes of Metal Box, Wardle became disillusioned by politics within the band and their reluctance to play live. He eventually split from PiL in mid-1980 and embarked on a prolific solo career. Wobble is joined on stage by drummer Marc Layton-Bennett and Martin Chung.

Originating from Manchester but formed in London in 2022, Balancing Act have quickly become renowned for their charged live shows and all round electric sound. After gaining traction with their debut EP in November 2022, Balancing Act have become something of a key name in “ones to watch” discussions, being branded a contender for “the new generation’s favourite band” by Jack Saunders. Self-described as “Dark, Sexy, and Sick”, Balancing Act can be more officially affiliated with the world of alternative rock. Dynamic and atmospheric, the sophomore EP release this year is marking a turn towards sonic grandeur and maturity, and the band have been gradually settling into a wider scale, cinematic delivery which suits them well. Kai Jon Roberts (vocals) and Jackson Couzens (guitar) first met in Manchester whilst working on separate projects. After packing up and moving to London, they joined forces with David Carpenter (bass) and Patrick Hanbury (drums), forming the now settled quartet.

We Can Be Heroes returns from our summer break on Sunday, 28th September with another musical extravaganza at Signature Brew, Blackhorse Road E17. We're showcasing the future of music on the big stage inside, with a whole host of great young acts. Entry is free for all under-18s, whether they're performing on stage or watching from the audience. For adults, it's just £5 per ticket, to help us with our running and equipment costs. Under-18s do not require a ticket. If you're 18 or under and want to perform, please get an adult to submit the Google Form on our website (www.wecanbeheroes.co.uk) . Spaces are limited, and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We welcome applications from any and all young musicians in any genre, from bands to solo performers.
