What's On @ Sixpenny Handley Village Hall

Ben Waters & his Boogie-woogie band
We are super excited to be able to welcome back fabulous boogie-woogie piano player Ben Waters AND his band to the hall on Saturday 8 November. You may remember Ben and his bands unforgettable performance that got us all up and dancing to their powerful renditions of boogie-woogie and rock n roll favourites at the Jubilee Picnic in 2022. Everyone who was there was captivated by Bens sheer brilliance and energy on the piano and we have repeatedly been asked to get him back. So, if you missed him in 2022, nows your chance - dont make the same mistake this year! Ben has played with some of the biggest names in the music world including Jools Holland, Shakin Stevens, Cher, The Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Imelda May, Mick Hucknall, Johnny Depp and many more, yet still remains as down to earth as ever. Whether performing in a village hall in his native Dorset or Sydney Opera House, he just loves playing the music that makes him happy and it shows. Tickets are available online now and this show will undoubtedly sell out (50% of available tickets have already been sold!) so we recommend that you get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. You can also pre-order some yummy food online hot dogs, chilli dogs or veggie dogs.

Her great musicality and sensitivity means she is an in-demand session player; while her crystalline voice has established her as a leading interpreter of song, whether performing solo or in a larger line up. More than simply a folk-singer, multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and musician Jim Causley is an all-round entertainer and his concerts give a full night of beautiful singing, moving ballads, hilarious ditties and everything in between. Since the release of his debut album in 2005, Causleys unique voice and persona have helped him become one of the most well-loved and respected figures of todays contemporary roots and folk scene. West country father of folk Geoff Lakeman described Causley as possessing a voice in a million in a recent interview in the Western Morning News. Some accolade indeed! Miranda & Jim will be celebrating the festive season with some gorgeous West Country carols, medieval and secular carols from around the British Isles, moving setting of Christmas poems by Cornish poet Charles Causley as well as a choice selection of seasonal songs by contemporary songwriters on the UK folk scene.
