First time visit to the Bothy. "Louise and Chris are a folk duo who performed an inviting mix of songs from the tradition together with their own original material. Keyboard and acoustic guitar blended most fluently with Louise's voice which is superb. It must be said, I believe it is unrivalled on the current folk scene. Ally that to Chris' intricate guitar work and soft tenor voicings and you have a delightful act." Review from John Owen, Organiser, Hungry Horse Folk Club.

This May, the renowned Southport troupe will be bringing Amanda Whittingtons smash-hit comedy Ladies Day to the stage at The Bijou Theatre. But dont expect polite cucumber sandwiches and gentle chit-chat. Set 21 years ago when Tony Christie was number one, Prince Charles married Camila and the first Youtube video was shared - This is a big-hearted, big-haired, fizz-fuelled trip to the races! The play follows four fish-packing factory workers who swap their hairnets for fascinators as they head off to Royal Ascot for a well-earned day out. Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda are determined that this will be a day to remember. And as the champagne flows and the betting slips pile up, long-buried truths begin to surface. What starts as a carefree escape quickly becomes something far more meaningful. Sharp, funny and wonderfully warm, Ladies Day is a celebration of friendship, loyalty and daring to take a chance both on the horses and in life. Taking on the roles of the fabulous four are Jen Johnson, Joanne Wasilew, Tracey Holmes-Smith and Sophie Parkes, bringing grit, glamour and plenty of northern wit to the stage. Neil Woods joins the cast in a variety of colourful roles, and promises a few surprises along the way. Too Friendly Theatre Company has built a reputation for delivering fast-paced, character-driven comedy packed with heart, and Ladies Day is no exception. If you enjoyed their recent productions full of laughter and larger-than-life performances, then this uplifting comedy is not to be missed. So dust off your finest frock, place your bets and join Too Friendly for an evening of laughter, friendship and feel-good fun. Ladies Day runs from 21st to 23rd May at The Bijou Theatre, located within The Bijou Cinema on Post Office Avenue. Bijou Sessions - "Sailor Swift - Talking Blues" Live
Join us at the Bijou for the return of the Talking Blues from Sailor Swift himself! Pete Morton's new show is a tour de force, a revelation, and a real joy; to see a performer at the top of his already deeply impressive game. The premise of the show is that the friendly ghost of a sailor haunts an old pub, meeting and talking with people through the centuries, the famous and infamous, observing the changing world with a smile and a quick wit, singing popular songs from times gone by. A happy mixture of music hall, pantomime, Stand-Up comedy, rowdy back room folk clubs, with moments of utter beauty and breath-taking audacity, it is a unique experience. Its full of laughter, singalongs, history, poetry, philosophy and life affirming fun. Its one of the very best things Ive ever seen. The audience were with him from the start, and their laughing, singing, clapping and foot stamping filled the hall. It was a mesmerising performance, a non stop cavalcade of vignettes and quips. I was left in awe of Petes command of the huge amount of material the show contains, just one person with a guitar and a voice, keeping the carnival vibrantly alive for us all.

The Prince Of Egypt

The Prince Of Egypt

3 Apr 2026 - 24 May 2026

With some artistic licence, this animated feature follows Moses from his discovery as a baby by Pharaoh's wife, through his formative years as a Royal Prince to his fall from grace when he discovers his true Hebrew background. The familiar tale is told in an imaginative and inventive fashion, yet in aiming for such a bold, epic approach the human focus is lost.

Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) feature in a five-star, triumphantly acclaimed new production of Arthur Miller’s classic play, from visionary director Ivo Van Hove (A View from the Bridge). One family, the heart of the American dream. When wartime delivers profits for Joe, it comes at a price when his partner is charged with criminal manufacturing deals, and his eldest son goes missing in action. Will peacetime bring peace of mind, or will he be confronted by the consequence of his actions? Filmed live from the West End, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon), and Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake) also feature in this disturbingly prescient play.

Grateful Fred Presents: "Petunia" In Concert
Grateful Fred is delighted to welcome one of Canada's most extraordinary and utterly unique musical talents to the Bijou stage...Petunia Imagine David Lynch and Nick Cave having a hillbilly baby that yodeled. Or Tom Waits meeting Elvis at Woody Guthrie's hobo junction. This is just one way of describing the man known simply as Petunia a modern musical enigma, a restless wanderer, a musical historian, and a quirky yet amazing talent who has been described as " The Saviour of Country Music ." Growing up in rural Quebec, surrounded by dilapidated old barns and acres of unspoiled land, Petunia was shaped by exactly the kind of surroundings a roots musician would find idyllic. His wandering spirit then took him to every major street corner across Canada and throughout the NYC subway system, before he graduated to full-fledged touring musician, playing venues and festivals across North America and Europe. He is also deeply involved in the theatre world writing scores, acting, and collaborating with theatre artists bringing that same cinematic storytelling instinct to his music. A man who exists in a different era entirely, Petunia glides effortlessly between country, swing, jazz, blues and rockabilly, bringing the past forth as something new to be celebrated and never forgotten. Championed by Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, named one of Canada's best indie acts by the CBC, and praised by the New York Post, No Depression, Exclaim! Magazine and Americana UK among many others, Petunia is quite simply in a category of his own. " He is a total one off, with it being almost impossible to compare him to anyone else " American Roots UK. " Extraordinary a left field genius " Paul Kerr, Americana UK. " One of the best in the world today, of any kind ." Phil Alvin. As always there will be a full supporting programme. https://petuniaandthevipers.com Tickets: 13.50

Their vibrant, well-crafted shows invite listeners to join them on a musical journey, earning critical acclaim for their unique blend that defies categorization while offering a warm and reflective embrace that is both enthusiastic and deeply resonant. Think of: The Carter Family for the millennial generation. Old Crow Medicine Show meets Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros meets Flatt & Scruggs meets Nickel Creek, with a dash of Avett Brothers and a sprinkle of Johnny Cash. The band coined the term guerrilla roots to describe its sound, which draws on early-20th-century Americana/bluegrass music, repurposed for a modern audience . The Boston Globe If you like your bluegrass served with a little punch, attitude, grit and gravy, with that busking spirit that was so present and palpable in the early incarnations of Old Crow Medicine Show and made your realize that string band music could be so much more than fuddy-duddy reenactments by crusty ol relics, then the Damn Tall Buildings will slide in nice as a welcome edition to your listening rotation. Bluegrass at heart, but pulling from a wide range of influences including swing, ragtime, jazz, and even a hint of contemporary perspective in the songwriting, they offer virtually unmatched energy and enthusiasm, underpinned by intelligent songs that dont skimp on the infectiousness...
