Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra - Walton Symphony No 1
Callum Smart and Ben Goldscheider have been regular visitors to Nottinghamshire, having both performed as soloists with the NPO in Southwell Minster and the Albert Hall. We are delighted to welcome them back and this time they will be performing together in Ethel Smyth's concerto for violin and French Horn. Martin Ellerby will need no introduction to Nottinghamshire, as he was born in nearby Worksop. His music has been broadcast and recorded all over the world by leading ensembles and performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St. Pauls Cathedral, Barbican and Wigmore Halls in London. A 7 year post as civilian composer-in-residence to the Regimental Band of Her Majestys Coldstream Guards resulted in much music for specific State events, Royal occasions and overseas tours. www.martinellerby.com [//www.martinellerby.com] Walton's 1st symphony will end our season. ABOUT TELYN QUARTET The Telyn Quartet (Seth Collin, Alma Vink, Isobel Neary-Adams, Tabitha Appel) is an exciting young string quartet based in the UK, comprising students of David Takeno, Arisa Fujita and Louise Hopkins. The quartets passion and dedication to string quartet playing started and has since been fuelled by MusicWorks chamber courses and MusicWorks Sundays at Kings Place London, where they formed as a group. In 2023, the quartet was given the opportunity to take part in the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festivals Summer Residency, where they received invaluable coaching from Krysia Osostowicz (Brodsky Quartet), Robin Ireland (Lindsay Quartet), Daniel Tong and Robin Michael, and were given performance and public masterclass opportunities. The quartet has performed at venues such as the Holywell Music Room (Oxford), West Road Concert Hall (Cambridge) and the Lit & Phil in Newcastle. They recently attended a further study string quartet course led by Catherine Manson (London Haydn Quartet). The quartet regularly seeks out coaching to further develop their playing and are grateful to the support and encouragement of David Waterman (Endellion Quartet), members of the London Haydn Quartet and Robert Max. The quartet recently joined the professional mentorship scheme ChamberStudio UK, and took part in a residency led by Donald Grant (Elias Quartet) and Tim Horton in December last year.
