Though the present building is Norman or Romanesque architecture of the 11th century, it is likely that this cathedral was founded in the 8th century. There are also Gothic and 19th century additions. It is the longest cathedral in England, and is known for its music and choirs.
To celebrate International Women's Day come on this tour to hear the stories of women across the ages, heard and unheard, seen and unseen, who have left their mark on the fabric and history of the cathedral.
Escorted by a Cathedral Guide you will be led up the great Norman Tower to the roof of the Tower (140 ft/ 42 m above ground level) to enjoy extensive views in all directions. En route you will learn about some of the history and structure of this remarkable building including stunning views of the interior of the Cathedral and a close-up view of the outstanding Rose Window.
Children must be a minimum of 11 years old to attend this tour. Due to narrow and enclosed spaces, we advise that visitors wear face masks on this particular tour.
