Musick'in Manchester 1744/45

17 May 2025 - 17 May 2025

Reconstruction of an original concert from 14th May 1745 Join Manchester Baroque as we reconstruct an original concert programme that took place in our city on 14thMay 1745. Our Artistic Director, Dr Pauline Nobes, came across in Manchester’s Central Library a transcript of sixteen subscription concert programmes which took place between November 2nd 1744 and August 20th 1745. We have been working our way reconstructing these concerts since Manchester Baroque formed, so join us on our next instalment! The music comes largely from popular 18th Century composers, with any gaps in the programme filled from Manchester's rich archives of music. Performing this music on period instruments and playing in Manchester’s only surviving 18th Century Church really brings Manchester’s musical history to life. Piano Concert: Pasión de Falla

21 May 2025 - 21 May 2025

The Instituto Cervantes Manchester, the Consulate General of Spain in Manchester, and the Fundación Klássica are delighted to present Pasión de Falla, an extraordinary piano recital by José Luis Nieto, paying tribute to one of Spain’s most iconic composers: Manuel de Falla. This exclusive programme offers a unique and captivating experience—a monographic recital entirely dedicated to Falla’s music, featuring a major highlight: the premier of the complete piano transcription of the symphonic ballet El sombrero de tres picos, arranged by the pianist himself. With this performance, José Luis Nieto became the first artist to present a full piano version of this masterpiece. As Falla was primarily a symphonic composer, a 90-minute piano recital dedicated solely to his music is a rare occasion. This makes the concert even more intriguing, not only for its unprecedented nature but also for the expressive depth that the piano brings to Falla’s repertoire. This exceptional concert is a remarkable contribution to the preservation and promotion of Spain’s rich musical heritage, offering a fresh perspective on the work of one of the greatest masters of classical music.
