St Giles' Cathedral

Dominating the Royal Mile, St Giles’ Cathedral has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. Its distinctive crown steeple is a prominent feature of the city skyline on the Royal Mile. It is home to some of the finest stained glass windows in Scotland, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, and hosts regular choral and organ performances. Also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, this church has witnessed executions, riots and celebrations. The cathedral features a gift shop and a café. It is free to enter the church and guided rooftop tours are available during certain hours for a fee.

Since then he has performed all over Britain in venues such as Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Eaton Square London, St. Davids Hall - Cardiff, Symphony Hall - Birmingham, Pump Room Bath, St. Georges - Bristol etc. He has also performed in France (Salle Cortot - Paris), Italy, Luxembourg (Philharmonie de Luxembourg), Austria (Wienersaal - Salzburg), Spain (Palau de la Musica Catalana - Barcelona), Majorca and Slovenia and has won prizes in competitions around Europe notably 2nd Prize and Mompou Prize at the prestigious Maria Canals International Piano Competition, 1st Prize at the Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition, 1st Prize in "Aci Bertoncelj" International Piano Competition, Slovenia. 1st Prize in "Section A" Chopin-Roma International Piano Competition, Italy, and 3rd Prize in the Manchester International Concerto Competition, UK. Luke was also awarded the RNCM Gold Medal, the college's highest award for Performance. Furthermore, he has had broadcasts of his performances on BBC Wales Radio, S4C Television, Radio Vaticana and Telepace in Italy.

Sacred Arts Festival Music at St Giles': James Macmillan – Ninian
Sir James Macmillan, Calum Robertson and Jack Oades Ninian, a concerto for clarinet and orchestra with Calum Robertson playing clarinet and Jack Oades playing the organ. The three movements of this astonishing but rarely performed work, commissioned in 1997 to mark 1600 years since St Ninian, are based on some of the strange and evocative tales about the saint written many years after his death. Uniquely for this performance, the original orchestral part has been transcribed for organ by Jack Oades. The recital will be introduced by Sir James MacMillan. None

After studying with Angela Welsh for several years Andrew gained a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Junior department, under the tutelage of Timothy Paxton. Andrew continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD) gaining his BMus (hons) with Rudi De Groote and baroque cello under Alison McGillivray.Since leaving the RCS Andrew has performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra, Scottish Philharmonic, Scottish Concert and Scottish Festival orchestras, British Philharmonic orchestra, Scottish Ballet and in 2010/11 was awarded an apprenticeship with Scottish Opera, whom he now plays with on a regular basis. His love for opera has also seen him tour with opera companies such as Noise Opera and Opera Bohemia. As a Baroque player he has had the opportunity to play with the Dunedin Consort and for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestras Club Concerts. An enthusiast of contemporary music Andrew is a member of The Glasgow New Music Expedition.Andrews passion for theatre has seen him tour internationally performing with ensembles and as a soloist across Europe, USA, Canada, China and Oman. 2018 saw Andrews debut at the Lincoln Centre, New York. His work in the theatre also includes recordings for The National Theatre of Scotland and for renowned dancer and choreographer Marc Brew.Aside from his busy freelance career Andrew holds the post of Part-time lecturer at the RCS.
