Josephine and Stephanie present an evening of songs from musicals and opera by a range of composers. There will be tunes from well known operas such as Hansel and Gretel and La Boheme, as well as stand-alone songs, such as A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square. Charles Stanfords Irish Rhapsody No 4is subtitled The Fisherman of Lough Neagh and what he saw, which has intrigued many listeners. What did the fisherman see? Coming to the concert may not answer that question for you, but you will be treated to beautiful music - from peaceful and misty to forceful and dramatic. Guillermo Ramasasais an award-winning clarinettist who is originally from Las Vegas, but who has played all around the world and is now based in London. He will be playingMatthew Arnolds Concerto No.2 for Clarinet and Orchestra for us in Taunton. Arnold had a lifelong love of jazz, and he wrote this concerto in 1974 specially for Benny Goodman, who loved it as we are sure you will, too. William Waltons Symphony No 1 has been described as sensuous and searing. It begins with raw intense emotional energy, passes through a bitingly bitter phase, a period of melancholic pain and reaches a triumphant upbeat finale that shouts with joy!
