The Light House

The Light House

10 Apr 2026 - 10 Apr 2026

“Man overboard, man overboard! Call control. Blow the whistle.” Love is a complicated business. It gets even more complicated when the person you love doesn’t want to be alive. Tender, funny and defiantly hopeful, The Light House is a real-life story of falling in love and staying in love, even when the lights go out and you’re lost in the dark. It’s a love letter to life. Join the emergency response as we dance in the kitchen, sing in the streets and try to turn the lights back on. It gets lonely, muddling through these days and nights. So why don’t we do it together? ★★★★★ “an absolute joy”(The Arts Dispatch) ★★★★★ “A truly remarkable play that leaves you dizzy, a little breathless and smiling your happy smile all the way home”(I ThankYou Theatre) ★★★★★ “magnificently acted”(A Youngish Perspective) ★★★★★ “crafted from top to bottom with artistry”(Theatre Weekly) With puppetry, clowning and gently embedded audience participation, ‘The Light House’ is the highly acclaimed debut play of Lecoq-trained theatre artist Alys Williams, supported by an exciting, female-led creative team. Following a celebrated national tour and London run at Park Theatre in 2023-4, The Light House returns to stages across the UK in 2026 “to bring hope to nation that is crying out for it” (★★★★★Theatre & Tonic). The performance includes sensitive content, including references to depression, suicide/suicidal ideation & hospitalisation. The show does include gentle audience participation but it’s okay to say ‘no’ if you would prefer not to participate.

Robert the Bruce: the struggle to be King
Robert Bruce is the hero king. Okay, he changed sides a few times, but he surely had right on his side, and a fair bit of might, born in those difficult early years with his band of brothers-at-arms by his side? That's certainly one way of looking at it. But it requires quite a bit of rose-tinted hindsight. Historian Fiona Watson digs a little deeper, exploring Bruce's career up till he became king and the cost of his kingship, tracing a very different future for Scotland than the one he forced on the kingdom. Prepare for a very different King Robert than the one he'd like you to believe in. Fiona has kindly offered to give this talk free of charge, so all proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go directly to Strathearn Arts.
On a Wing and a Prayer

On a Wing and a Prayer

12 Jun 2026 - 12 Jun 2026

On a Wing and a Prayer – doing something in the hope that you will succeed despite being insufficiently prepared. Taking this figure of speech as a starting point for humankind’s approach to the climate crisis, Nordic Viola enters into musical conversation with West Highland composer, Lisa Robertson. Together they explore the Atlantic Rainforest of the Morvern peninsula and the community's relationship to the land, drawing on its power and resources whilst working in harmony with nature. From coast to mountain via stream and woodland, they explore a range of emotions from the bleakness of habitat loss through the teeming life of the rainforest and towards the hope of a more harmonious existence between humankind and nature. In a blend of instrumental and natural sound with poetic fragments by Kathleen Jamie, Lisa Robertson and Nordic Viola create a unique and reflective soundscape for string trio. Hailing from the Isle of Skye, the legendary Scottish trailblazers have created a glorious mixture of traditional sounds and dance-floor grooves that have been embraced worldwide. Drawing upon a dazzling myriad of influences from jigs and reels through Dance Music, Jazz, African, and more, they bring the sound of Scotland fresh-faced and breathless to the new audiences around the world. Their mainly instrumental music allows the band to develop exciting themes and soundscapes, as well as locking into their trademark hypnotic sound that no-one can resist dancing to! From the moment they take to the stage, the mood is set for a no-nonsense feel-good atmosphere – each number sounding like an encore in itself. They tease unlikely combinations from the familiarity of instruments such as fiddle and highland pipes – blending with techno rhythms and soaring sounds and take this to another plain. The traditional styles that influence the musicians are still to be heard – and when an unexpected drop-down to those glorious core melodies sneaks in – the result is spine-chilling! In short, it rocks – and the audience becomes part of the experience.
