The evening will be compared by last year's winner (Carl Carzana) and a fabulous prize is up for grab which includes £20 cash, mentoring with Carl Carzana to launch their own comedy event and an official certificate. Immersion - WTF?? Late L

Immersion - WTF?? Late L

3 Oct 2025 - 3 Oct 2025

Immersion - WTF?? Late L(a)unch with John Robb atThe Actors Brighton. Fri 3rd October 2025 Immersion's Malka & Colin in conversation with John Robb interspersed with album playback from 5.00-7.00 pm in the Slack City studio atThe Actors. ///// What the fuck?? What the fucking fuck?? Its the only realistic response to these dark, divisive and dangerous times. How do you react? How do you feel? How do you soundtrack? Immersion is the project of post punk musical architects Colin Newman (Wire) and Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact) and Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck, Savak & Lake Ruth). Since the pandemic, Immersion has been mainly working on their Nanocluster collaborations but they have now re-engaged with the core project after a UK and USA tour gave them a shot of musical urgency and lyrical immediacy. The crafted creativity of the core unit has seen their previous projects honed down in their studio set-up but the magic of the live moment sparked a new necessity to the sound. It sees the four instrumentals and the four vocal pieces of the album created with an added energy and a connection to the shared hopes and fears of the band, its audience and the wider community. It musically catches a moment reacting to the apocalyptic madness of these times and trying to come to terms with it. The songs snapshot these uncertain days adding another layer of humanity to the music and another level of what the fuck??. If the Nanocluster project is about collaboration then Immersion in 2025 is a response to where humanity finds itself in the second decade of the 21st century. It reacts to not only that relentless rhetoric of these times but also how we as humans should respond. Music is the message, the medium, the massage and the moment. This song collection manages to combine the unease with hope, minimally hypnotic songwriting with taut melodies and inventiveness with groove. Thank you for your attention to this matter! //// Doors open at 4.30pm ( Show starts at 5.00pm until 7.00pm) Immersion are Malka Spigel andColin Newman. Although best known for their work with, respectively, Minimal Compact and Wire, the duos work as Immersion provides an outlet for their ongoing fascination in crafting enthralling, unique musical soundscapes. The Portrait Guy with Irwin Sparkes

The Portrait Guy with Irwin Sparkes

4 Sept 2025 - 4 Sept 2025

Join Guy Lloyd every month for a live podcast with a difference. Guy will be joined by a special guest to talk about life, love and whatever they fancy really. The hour-long podcast will be recorded in front of a live audience but here's the twist; Guy and his special guest will be painting each other's portrait, while they chat. And then at some point during the conversation and when they are bored of each other's face, they will paint a self-portrait. The audience will enjoy the chat and both Guy and his guest will reveal their artwork at the end of the podcast. And he's not showing off or anything but Guy has an A-Level in art (in 1988. Yes, he's that old). The theme of the podcast is how connection and art is good for the soul. At the the end of the year, all the art will be auctioned off to raise money for mental health charities. Guy's very special guest this month is lead singer of The Hoosiers, Irwin Sparkes. Join Irwin and Guy for chats, giggles and (most probably) really bad art. Also, you are welcome to bring your own art materials and draw us, if you have nothing better to do. Just make us look pretty.
