Canaan Cox is the definition of an entertainer. His music fuses contemporary country with the energy of pop and taste of R&B. It’s no surprise coming from such a musical household. Originally from NC, he grew up with his father blasting Conway Twitty records, his mother’s band was always touring the southeast, and 7 sisters ensuring he had a healthy dose of pop music. Coming straight out of Newport The GLC are officially Britain’s biggest rap group. Known for classics like “Guns don’t kill people rappers do”, The GLC started almost by accident around the turn of the century with Eggsy’s impromptu rap about his tracksuit over a serious piece of music Rhys was working on in the studio. Adam Hussain, Billy Webb, Mystkal, the Maggot, 2hats and Mike Balls convinced Rhys to record the rap. Fuelled by Lambrini, fags, Chicken Tikka Massala and weed they all took to the mic and The GLC’s first album “Don’t Blame the Chain” was born. And so it began, the journey which has so far seen The GLC rise to the top of the charts, perform around the world and at every major festival in the Western Hemisphere and make millions of people laugh along the way. The Hillbilly Moon Explosion are heading back to the UK for a short run of dates calling into 229, London on Friday 22nd May following a sold-out show in the City in 2025. Formed in 1998 in Zurich, Switzerland, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion exists in a middle ground between the traditionalism of many rockabilly revival bands and the rougher, spookier sound of psychobilly. Founded by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Emanuela Hutter and bassist/vocalist Oliver Baroni, their music has more than its share of retro twang, with Hutter's polished, enigmatic singing blending with the sometimes raucous, sometimes moody guitar lines, and they add dashes of rockabilly, surf, blues, punk, lounge pop, country and even ska to season their evocative mix. The band staked out their trademark sound on 2002's Introducing the Hillbilly Moon Explosion, they fully hit their creative stride on 2011's Buy Beg or Steal, and they collaborated with psychobilly veteran Mark "Sparky" Phillips for 2019's The Sparky Sessions. Hornet Disaster, Weatherday’s follow-up to their 2019 debut Come in, and spiritual successor to 2022’s collab release Weatherglow, is their most expansive work to date. In Weatherday’s initial bout of inspired writing and recording, they produced over 70 songs for the record, but not before they had a complete, overarching narrative that was coherently tied back to Sputnik’s previous work. Like its predecessor Come in, Weatherday’s Hornet Disaster lurches instantly into a caustic title track. The overture is signature Weatherday - urgent, noisy, erratic, and playful - but also hints at shifts in songwriting and production. Lead single “Angel,” backed with “Heartbeats,” demonstrates this evolution in a snappy, springy emo anthem, while its counterpart calls on longtime influence The Knife in a slinky, downtempo curio that pushes the Weatherday sonic universe in an unexpected direction. Gary Numan (born Gary Anthony James Webb on 8 March 1958) is an English singer, composer, and musician, most widely known for his chart-topping 1979 hits "Are 'Friends' Electric?" (as Tubeway Army) and "Cars". His signature sound consisted of heavy synthesizer hooks fed through guitar effects pedals. Numan is considered a pioneer of commercial electronic music. The Virginmarys are an English rock duo from Macclesfield, England. The band formed in 2009 as a trio and self-released a limited series of sold out EPs, before releasing their debut album King of Conflict on DoubleCross/Cooking Vinyl and Wind Up Records in February 2013.

Joshua Idehen is a British-born Nigerian residing in Sweden. A spoken-word and poetry artist and musician, he has written poems on the Mercury-nominated albums “Channel The Spirits” by The Comet Is Coming, “Your Queen Is A Reptile”, and mobo-winning “Black Is The Future” both by Sons of Kemet.

Hayseed Dixie began in the summer of 2000 in the fertile valley of Deer Lick Holler, deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee USA. In this area which was completely isolated from outside cultural and musical influence, the boys grew up playing the traditional music of their forefathers on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and acoustic bass. All of this changed abruptly one afternoon when a stranger crashed his car into a stately old oak tree on a particularly dangerous curve, which the locals refer to as the Devil's Elbow. Sadly, the stranger expired, but his legacy lives on! As the boys searched through the wreckage looking for identification, they discovered several vinyl AC/DC albums. After playing these back on an old Edison 78rpm Victrola, everyone agreed that the songs were right fine country music . . . and that the Lost Highway of Brother Hank Williams and this Highway To Hell of AC/DC were indeed the exact same damn road! And the rest is now enshrined in musical history. Most recently, Hayseed Dixie are exploring the inspired catalogue of the stadium rock of the 1970's and 1980's. This interest began during a 2014 Spring tour of Germany, in which the band heard the song Eye of the Tiger 6 different times on 6 different German radio stations in a single day while driving between Dortmund and Frankfurt. As the seed is planted, so the tree shall grow - this very quote appears on the inner sleeve of the 1980 album Escape by Journey. How very true indeed.

The icy, post-punk-inspired synth pop of Nation of Language is the creation of Ian Devaney, who was inspired by the early work of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Taking the project in its own refined, melancholy direction, he and his bandmates presented Nation of Language's full-length debut, Introduction, Presence, in 2020. The project peppered in earlier Krautrock and experimental electronic influences a year later on A Way Forward.

Formed in the late Seventies Discharge changed the face of punk – and indeed extreme music itself – with their stunning ‘Realities Of War’ EP, a four-song outpouring of pure intensity that boiled punk down to its basic components of rage, frustration and violent rebellion. Discharge stumbled upon a sound that was so ugly, it was beautiful; so horrifying, it was irresistible – and it ushered in a whole new wave of gnarlier, nastier UK punk, and ultimately paved the way for hardcore and thrash.

The Specials Ltd are the UK's most authentic and original tribute to 2-Tone Legends, The Specials. When the original line up of The Specials split in 1981 they left behind a legacy which has been unrivaled by a single band since. The Temperance Movement are a British blues rock band formed in 2011 by Glasgow-born vocalist Phil Campbell and guitarists Luke Potashnick and Paul Sayer. The band released their Pride EP in 2012, and their eponymous debut studio album was released in 2013. Collectively the band have a rich history of experience, having previously played with Rooster, Ben’s Brother, Jamiroquai, Ray Davies, The Waterboys and Feeder.

Will Wildes intense harmonica style steals the spotlight from the traditional blues rock guitar, with a sound that owes as much to Gary Moore as it does to Sonny Boy Williamson. "Im always looking to make new sounds with the harmonica, pushing its boundaries, trying to change peoples perception of it. In fact Will has gone one step further and created his own signature "Wilde Tuned" harmonicas so he can play licks that werent possible before. They enable me to hold my own with any blues rock guitarist.

Heaven 17 are a British synthpop band originating in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England that was formed in 1980, having much 80s success with their electronic sound. Taking their name from a fictional group mentioned in Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange (where 'The Heaven Seventeen' are at number 4 in the charts with 'Inside'), Heaven 17 formed when Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware split from their earlier group, The Human League, and devised the production company British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.).

Taking us through the summer of music is none other than Toots and the Maytals. A Grammy award winner, his sound is a unique and original combination of Gospel, Ska, Soul, Reggae and Rock. Maytal’s influence on popular music is undeniable. Considered a musical legend, the artist’s catalogue has been covered by artists from Amy Winehouse to Sublime.

Somewhere out there, in the multiverse of infinite possibilities, exists a world where the Beatles recorded "Helter Skelter," decided to stop cutting their hair, and never looked back. While that world might only be a dream, the next best thing comes by way of Cambridge, England's Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, a band whose psychedelic proto-metal excursions evoke the melody of a Fab Four fronted by Charles Manson, along with the creeping menace of early Black Sabbath.

There’s a difficult to describe, yet timeless quality to certain songs that transcends genre or era. It’s something that you can’t fake or contrive and it’s what lies at the core of Skating Polly’s music. Admittedly the female-driven alternative acts that inspired the band such as Veruca Salt, X, The Breeders, L7 and Babes In Toyland (the later of whom Skating Polly toured with in Europe) aren’t typical reference points for most of today’s up-and-coming bands, but maybe they should be.
