Alex Payler Electone Player LIVE

Alex Payler Electone Player LIVE

14 Nov 2026 - 14 Nov 2026

Originality. Its what every true artiste is all about. You must stand out from the crowd. To have the ability to think independently and creatively whilst remaining unique and having a style of your own. This is something Alex Payler knew right from the beginning. Young, good looking and naturally talented, Alex makes the ideal ambassador to begin a revolution in music. On one hand an elite musician but on the other, nothing less than a pioneer blowing apart the stereotypical outdated image and reputation of the instrument he plays as well as the person who would normally play it. In a world where experience is everything, Alex Payler can certainly claim to have gained valuable skills from all facets of the music industry - from musical directing to demonstrating on the shop floor as well as magazine feature writing - but most of all, he just loves to perform as well as pass his valuable knowledge on to others. Classically trained and well versed in many styles of music including classical, jazz, film and pop, Alex demonstrates his sheer versatility in each and every performance large or small and unlike many other musicians of his generation he can also claim that every piece is completely his own original work - scored, arranged and all played completely LIVE in every performance - something that was realised and awarded as early in his career as 1997 when he won the National Electronic Organist of the Year competition as well as more recently by the Warner Brothers Records Vice President of International Artistes, Dion Singer, who helped produce Alex's latest ground breaking commercial album - 'Alex Payler Electone Player'. In the UK at least, Alex is constantly having to fight against an out-of-date image of the instrument he plays... "The general person on the street has no idea. The 'Organ' has an almost humorous and corny image in this country. It doesn't seem be taken seriously anymore, not in the same way as piano perhaps. In JAPAN - the Electones home country - its a very different story." Using this as his inspiration, Alex loves performing to people both young and old and begin to drastically challenge those preconceptions. As a result, Alex knows he needs to reach new audiences to help create a future for the instrument and is eager to create and achieve something new and exciting So, in his first local performance in 6 years, Alex Payler returns to perform at the Avenue Theatre and to mark the occasion he will be sharing the stage to proudly showcase a selection of his own gifted students - all becoming talented musicians in their own right. With a performance featuring everything from classical and jazz to pop and film scores, come along to support and celebrate live music performed by a unique musician, on a unique instrument with a unique vision to his music. Booking for this performance in advance is HIGHLY recommended. For more information about Alex Payler, visit his website @ www.alexpayler.com

Simon Yates - My Mountain Life

Simon Yates - My Mountain Life

24 Apr 2026 - 29 Nov 2026

A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike! On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed. With the publication of the book Touching The Void, and later the film and stage play, both climbers became household names. It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering - but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited. Come along and witness Simon’s tireless journey from that mountain in Peru to some of the remotest on the planet and share with him the drama, excitement and beauty of modern, lightweight alpinism. Told with wit, dry humour and lavishly illustrated with images and film collected on his great climbs.
