Come with us to hear about our historic walls and stories about some of the medieval buildings and famous people who have lived in and visited Southampton over the centuries! Venture underground into some of the town vaults and discover further about our city's history! We look forward to seeing you on our tours! The tour will last approximately 90 minutes. Join us on an entertaining guided walk of the 'Old Town', visiting a selection of towers, the western walls and underground vaults. Learn about Southampton's rich history, including links to the Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, the 100 Years War, the Tudors, William Shakespeare, the Mayflower, Jane Austen and the Spa Town (2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen), the Titanic, WWII and D-Day and the development of the Docks. Please note this tour will take place at the Bargate (the ‘Guided Tours Meeting Point’ sign at the south side of the Bargate). Join an expert guide in discovering the secrets of Southampton’s most iconic and historic building: the Bargate. Taking you on a journey from medieval times, this special tour with limited numbers will uncover graffiti, offer tales of war and prisons and will also include access to the main chamber as well as the roof.
