The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc

The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc

11 May 2025 - 11 May 2025

From the moment Kevin Henderson, Olav Luksengård Mjelva and Anders Hall of The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc first played together in 2009 they felt a particular chemistry in the sound they created. Some seven hundred gigs later - playing across Scandinavia, mainland Europe, the US and the UK - that same chemistry continues to draw the trio together. Hundreds of tunes have been tried and laid aside in The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc’s quest for the music which on two albums, their self-titled debut from 2011 and Deliverance, from 2016, has charmed listeners in the same way that their live performances beguile and satisfy. The jamming sessions that led to the threesome coalescing into a group showed them that they could not only create a unique sound, they also had a richness, helped by their use of standard fiddles, octave fiddle, viola and Hardanger fiddle, that has led to them being likened to a string quartet rather than just a trio.

Fred MacAulay - No Podcast LIVE!

Fred MacAulay - No Podcast LIVE!

26 Sept 2025 - 18 Oct 2025

Scotland's best and much-loved stand-up comedian, Fred MacAulay is getting ready to hit the road again with a 2025 tour around Scotland. Now in the fourth decade of his comedy career, Fred MacAulay still loves being on stage doing what he does best.......quite simply it's STAND-UP ! "At my age it's sometimes an achievement to be actually standING up" jokes Fred, but his appetite for performing is as strong as it was all those years ago when he took a massive side-ways step from a career as an accountant and company secretary into the world of entertainment. A career which has taken him all over the world (apart from South America) (and some other continents) where he has worked in television and radio. But it's always been and always will be as a stand-up that Fred wants to be remembered. It's because of Stand-Up that I've been asked to do all the 'celebrity' things that I've done. (See below). He might talk about some of them, but he's more likely to talk about what is current - having been a guest on the famous Radio 4 News Quiz show for almost 18 years he has some previous in this respect. And as a family man he'll no doubt be talking about the latest stage of that aspect of life.....Grandchildren. " I can remember the joy of having our kids just after I'd embarked on my career in comedy......what a great source of material they were! I mean, that wasn't the main reason for having kids ...... but I hope the same applies to the grandkids!"

The Deeside Orchestra is an amateur orchestra based in Aboyne. Formed around 40 years ago, it has more than 35 permanent members, drawing musicians from all over Aberdeenshire. The centrepiece of the concert is Gershwin’s timeless Rhapsody in Blue with guest soloist Blair Cargill. This is teamed with William Grant Still’s tuneful Afro-American Symphony from 1930. Fusing blues and spirituals with classical orchestral writing, this was the first symphony by a Black composer to earn a place in the repertoire. Barber’s Adagio for Strings and Copland’s Hoe-Down from the ballet Rodeo complete the programme.
