Brown Horse

Brown Horse

12 Apr 2026 - 30 Oct 2026

Brown Horse make twangy and thoughtful indie rock, delicately arranged, but unafraid of building a yowling wall of guitars, accordion, banjo and pedal steel. Distorted, teary-eyed and country-tinged, this is music for long lonely drives and late, late nights in strange places.
Fuzzy Lights

Fuzzy Lights

9 Apr 2026 - 9 Apr 2026

Cambridge's acclaimed psych-folk quintet Fuzzy Lights play The Bear Club for the first time having recently put out their fifth album 'Fen Creatures' to huge acclaim. The band have created their most conceptually ambitious work to date - a meditation on environmental crisis that uses the folklore and history of East Anglia as a lens to examine humanity's fractured relationship with the natural world. Their sound is an awesome amalgamation of folk and death metal based heavily around the use of drone guitar and distorted violins.Fen Creatures' expands this vision into something far more sweeping and interconnected. The album operates across multiple historical timelines, from Iron Age hill forts to medieval plague houses, from Byron's Romantic-era environmental warnings to the immediate threat of rising sea levels, creating a temporal tapestry that weaves ancient stories with contemporary concerns. The album calls attention to environmental change while exploring how folklore ties to the landscape and our connection to our ancestors. Musically, the quintet, Rachel Watkins (vocals/violin), Xavier Watkins (guitar/electronics), Chris Rogers (guitar), Daniel Carney (bass), and Mark Blay (drums), have pushed deeper into experimental drone territories while maintaining the crystalline folk sensibilities that have become their signature. The result is their most atmospheric and immersive work to date, with vast sonic landscapes that mirror the fenland geography they're documenting. Presented by The Bear Club. This is an 14+ event
Pete Roth Trio Ft. Bill Bruford

Pete Roth Trio Ft. Bill Bruford

4 Jun 2026 - 4 Jun 2026

We’re proud to welcome the Pete Roth Trio back to The Bear Club for what should be a very special evening. The word "jazz" implies musicians who listen and interact; people who never play it the same way twice. This trio has those qualities in abundance, but the group’s music is also something over, around, above, and below jazz. What they play isn’t always going to fit, or be "nice," but it will be great. The group’s roots are firmly planted in popular music, but it seeks to expand the notion of what it is acceptable or possible to do, or represent, within that genre. The trio will be joined by a very special guest, Bill Bruford, on drums. Internationally known as a rock musician with prog supergroups Yes and King Crimson, Bill also has impeccable jazz credentials, having worked with Al Di Meola, the Buddy Rich Orchestra, David Torn, Allan Holdsworth, and Tim Garland. He was voted into Modern Drummer magazine’s Hall of Fame in 1990, named by Rolling Stone magazine as #16 Greatest Drummer of All Time in 2016, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes in 2017. The band creates jazz for a new generation of music enthusiasts, exploring beyond traditional conventions. A standard might reveal its essence only in the final moments of performance. Featuring Pete Roth on guitar, Mike Pratt on bass, and Bill Bruford on drums. Presented by The Bear Club. This is an 14+ event
