Psychedelics In Africa: The Untold Story
Exploring the rich history and culture of psychedelics in Africa through research and lived experiences. Followed by Q&A. Fresh from his latest journeys across Africa, Darren Le Baron returns to share new discoveries and reflections. Following three months traveling through Southern Africa living among San Bushmen, Zulu, and Himba communities, before continuing on to Egypt, he revisits his acclaimed series, Psychedelics in Africa: The Untold Story, with fresh insight from the field. This session explores the deep history, mythology, and scientific research surrounding Africa’s psychoactive plants and fungi. For millennia, these potent natural allies have been central to spiritual practice, healing, and community cohesion among the continent’s earliest cultures, traditions that remain largely underrepresented in mainstream scholarship. Across Africa, many communities continue to engage these sacred substances in rites of passage, initiation ceremonies, spiritual communication, healing practices, and everyday ritual life. Bridging African and Diasporic perspectives, the presentation draws on academic sources alongside oral traditions, highlighting resonances in symbolism, cosmology, and language that reveal profound cultural continuities and thought-provoking insights. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Presented by Seed Talks This is an 18+ event

The History Of Dance & Women

The History Of Dance & Women

26 May 2026 - 26 May 2026

Explore how the history of dance has shaped our ideas of the female form and how that relationship can be revolutionary. Followed by Q&A. What do you think of when you picture a female dancer? What does she look like and why do you picture her this way? The relationship between dance and the female form is complex, shaped by centuries of tradition, expectation, and cultural influence. Join Prof Sarahleigh Castelyn to explore how dance has constructed, disciplined, and defined ideas of the female body. We will dive into questions from “why do we expect female dancers to move in certain ways?” to “why are dance audiences at times guilty of racism, misogyny, and xenophobia?”, while exploring dance activists like Nadine McKennzie, Petra Kuppers and Claire Cunningham and more. This talk invites you to rethink how you view the female form in dance, and why questioning these perspectives matters. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Speaker Bio: Prof Sarahleigh Castelyn is a performer, choreographer, and a dance nerd. The History Of Intersectionality & Women
Explores how ideas of gender, power, and inequality have been shaped over time and why they still matter today. Followed by Q&A. Intersectionality has transformed equality movements by bringing class, race and gender into focus - broadening whose experiences are seen and heard. This has helped include more women’s lived experiences in the fight for equality. But where did these ideas begin? In this talk, Dr Emma Cunningham traces how the “nature of woman” was constructed over centuries. In the 18th century it was then challenged by a pioneering Englishwoman which sparked debate and scandal. From these early ideas to modern movements, Dr Cunningham explores how intersectionality has reshaped the push for equality, focusing on women’s experience in policing. She will examine early inclusion and discrimination to ongoing barriers and progress in the UK today. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Speaker Bio: Dr Emma Cunningham is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of East London.
