Bad Manners

Bad Manners

22 May 2025 - 30 Jan 2026

Fronted by Buster Bloodvessel (born Douglas Trendle), the band was formed in 1976 while the members were at school together, and among their early incarnations were known as Stoop Solo and the Sheet Starchers. None of the members had any formal musical training, not even the ability to play any instruments. They were popular during the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period when lots of similar ska bands filled the charts. Some of their hits include 'My Girl Lollipop', 'Lip Up Fatty', 'Special Brew' and 'Ne-Ne-Na-Na-Na-Na-Nu-Nu'. One of the main reasons for their notoriety was because of their outlandish, larger-than-life, huge-tongued & shaven-headed front man. Buster´s exploits got them banned from the British TV chart show Top of the Pops (which included dressing as Henry VIII and singing to a blow-up doll for the song 'Lorraine', pouring a large can of baked beans over his head, and dressing in a can-can dancer´s dress to promote their single 'Can-Can').
The Blow Monkeys

The Blow Monkeys

11 Oct 2025 - 24 Oct 2025

With hits like ‘Digging Your Scene’ and ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way’, The Blow Monkeys epitomised the glamour of mid-80s pop at its most graceful and sophisticated. In the band’s frontman Robert Howard (aka Dr. Robert), they possessed a tall, charismatic singer who was both camera-friendly and clever, who appeared to be just as much at ease on the catwalk that is pop’s conveyor belt as he was penning witty, incisive songs. While quite clearly Robert’s band, though, the Blow Monkeys were also gifted three immensely talented musicians in bassist Mick Anker (he of the trademark bowler hat), saxophonist Neville Henry and drummer Tony Kiley. Behind the band’s stylish veneer lay something else, which became increasingly apparent from Robert’s lyrics. While some of the Smash Hits generation avoided politics with a capital P, The Blow Monkeys openly criticised the policies of the Conservative government, railing against social injustices and adopting an openly left-of-centre stance on issues of the day. From openly endorsing the gay community “Digging Your Scene” to an outright attack on Margaret Thatcher ‘Celebrate (The Day After You)’ – a duet with the late, great Curtis Mayfield, The Blow Monkeys were always the thinking person’s pop group. As the 1980s progressed, so too did the band’s musical style, from a sound once dubbed “jazz punk” by Robert to a more soulful, jazzy style and an ever-increasing adoption of dance music. The Blow Monkeys of their rare, indie debut single ‘Live Today Love Tomorrow’ (recorded on a shoestring in 1981) would be barely recognisable to those who bought the Balearic remix of ‘La Passionara’ from 1990. And yet a soulful, spiritually uplifting strain has continued to run through their music – and, indeed, that of Robert’s solo recordings – to this day.

The Vaselines

The Vaselines

16 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

The Vaselines were formed in Edinburgh in 1987 by singers/guitarists Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, soon signing to Pastels frontman Stephen Pastel's newly formed 53rd 3rd label. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain regularly cited the Vaselines influence in interviews with the music press and Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' Molly's Lips and Son of a Gun (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as perform Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on their legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Cobain's gospel-spreading no doubt accelerated their rise to cult sainthood, but the Vaselines would have gotten there sooner or later on their own accord. Lewd but nave and abrasive yet tender, the band's shambling, primitivist squall remains a perfect distillation of pop at its most guileless and euphoric.Eugene Kelly later went on to front Captain America / Eugenius, while McKee spent the better part of the decade out of sight, resurfaced in Suckle, and released a solo album in 2006. The Vaselines reunited proper in 2010 to record their second full album Sex With An X which was released on the Seattle label Sub Pop.This was followed by V for Vaselines in 2014. The Ramones inspired album featured many of the same players who helped make 'Sex.....', including Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, the 1990's Michael McGaughrin and Teenage Fanclub's Francis Macdonald.
Welly

Welly

2 Oct 2025 - 15 Oct 2025

Welly is an extraordinary character with a remarkable literary way of describing himself, his band and society. A square peg in the round hole of suburban life, Welly embraced his difference from an early age and went onto channel his observations on suburbia into songs. Whip-smart, playful, funny and terrifyingly smart pop songs to be precise. He then set about finding the perfect vehicle to pedal his wares and so formed a band and delivered a debut album bursting with democratised pop music for people that feel fun in the charts stopped at Love Machine by Girls Aloud.

Party Eh! & Culture Presents: DAVE LEE (JN)
With an inimitable CV and discography that includes over a thousand production credits to his name, hundreds of singles under renowned pseudonyms including Joey Negro, and three UK top 40 hits as Jakatta, Dave Lee is one of the UKs most revered producers of disco and house music, defining each genre with a signature sound. Always looking to push the boundaries of what it means to make music. Lees first role in the industry was working for Rough Trade, eventually setting up the label Republic, one of the first in the UK to champion the house sound of New Jersey. They released tunes like Phase IIs timeless Reachin and also featured some of Lees earliest productions and remixes, including early Brit-house classic Raven Maizes Together Forever, one of Daves first pseudonyms. His breakthrough came through with 1990s Do It Believe It on cool NY indie Nu Groove under his most well-known moniker Joey Negro. The follow-up Do What You Feel on the newly minted Z Records, eventually went Top 40 pop and landed him a deal with Virgin Records. It was the start of a purple patch that saw him become one of the most in-de-mand remixers on the nascent UK house scene, while later in the decade he had further crossover successes with Must Be The Music and American Dream (respectively as Joey Negro and Jakatta). Lees also a noted record collector and hes spun his passion for vinyl into a landmark series of compilations, initially for labels like BBE and Strut, but over the past decade or so has developed Z Records into one of the most respected reissue labels with series like Under The Influence while still using the label as an outlet for his current productions, including his cherished live music side project, Sunburst Band. Having gone through the industry sausage factory over the years, signing for major labels, enjoying crossover hits, and all the trappings that came with it (much of it a kingsized pain in the arse), these days Lees USP is arguably his fierce independence. He has no manager, no A&R man, no boss. Every major decision, whether its to replace a hi-hat pattern or release another compilation album, is ultimately down to him. Its how he likes it. I dont have a well connected team of people who get involved in strategic decisions, he explains. I approach artists, not because of their marketability, but because I like working with them and they want to work with me. Im pretty critical of my own music, so I like to think I know when it's below par. Also I dont think there are many people left producing the same material as me, so when I make an album i want to come out with my sound but at its absolute best. In 2020, Lee decided it was time to retire the Joey Negro moniker. I was never that mad about it in the first place, he says. I was struggling to think of a name for that 1990 Nu Groove release and had a pile of records on my desk, J. Walter Negroʼs ʻShoot The Pumpʼ and ʻReach Up To Marsʼ by Pal Joey, and put the two together. In my mind, the Negro was the Spanish pronunciation of black. Somehow it stuck. 2020 was the year of Black Lives Matter and issues of race and cultural appropriation have been hot topics and Dave, whose entire career has been defined by his love of black music, did not want to become embroiled in these issues. I would like to make it clear, there wasnʼt enormous pressure on me to change it, I just felt it was the right thing to do. Despite a number of notable African-American artists backing Dave, he decided it was simpler to retire it and move on to pastures new. What's coming up next for Dave Lee? Well, apart from continuing his busy DJ schedule he has a new album ready, in which he has teamed up with Detroit vocalist Maurissa Rose as well as a new reworks/remix compilation album alongside John Morales in the same vein as Lees infamous Remixed with Love series. Ladies and gentleman, may we introduce you to Dave Lee!! Plus DJ Support from: Matt Green Dean Stalker Johnny Thieves Carl Tait See you on the dancefloor Eh! x
