Goldie Lookin' Chain

Goldie Lookin' Chain

2 May 2025 - 20 Dec 2025

Coming straight out of Newport The GLC are officially Britain’s biggest rap group. Known for classics like “Guns don’t kill people rappers do”, The GLC started almost by accident around the turn of the century with Eggsy’s impromptu rap about his tracksuit over a serious piece of music Rhys was working on in the studio. Adam Hussain, Billy Webb, Mystkal, the Maggot, 2hats and Mike Balls convinced Rhys to record the rap. Fuelled by Lambrini, fags, Chicken Tikka Massala and weed they all took to the mic and The GLC’s first album “Don’t Blame the Chain” was born. And so it began, the journey which has so far seen The GLC rise to the top of the charts, perform around the world and at every major festival in the Western Hemisphere and make millions of people laugh along the way. Now many years since that first rap about Eggsy’s tracksuit, the boys are still keeping it real in the rap game and hold the title of the most successful UK rap act ever. To date The GLC have released 18 albums… and amazingly none of them have died yet. You knows it! GLC (Live) plus special guests

James Taylor Quartet

James Taylor Quartet

14 May 2025 - 14 May 2025

After the collapse of mod legends The Prisoners in the 1980s, and before moving to Sweden, James recorded some demos with brother David on guitar, the bass player from The Prisoners, and a drummer from down the road... and thus The James Taylor Quartet was born. From tiny acorns mighty oaks do indeed grow, and it wasn't long before the first single, Blow Up, had been released, the band were in the studio rehearsing for the Mission Impossible EP, gigs were booked, and the late great John Peel was offering a session. Skip forward 25 years and JTQ has evolved into one of the most exciting and well respected touring bands in the UK. With numerous albums to its name, the band’s recorded output is not to be scoffed at. 'Prolific' is an understatement, with albums touching genres as diverse as jazz, funk, soul, rock, and even rap, not to mention a handful of library albums in between. Each album is an absolute must for any Hammond fan: James' playing providing a solid and accomplished lead as always. Live, the band is explosive, with a breathtaking, diverse unmatched back catalogue. JTQ’s fired-up signature tune, The Theme from Starsky and Hutch, cemented its reputation as master of the jazz-funk-r’n’b workout; 60s spy themes, psychedelic and free-form jazz all added something to the band’s distinctive sound. Originally playing the Hammond B3 organ in the UK mod revival band The Prisoners, James Taylor formed his own quartet, and began playing music similar to the rare-groove jazz-funk then in vogue around London. By the early 90s, that movement had spawned acid jazz, and JTQ found itself at the forefront of a vibrant young club scene. The first single, Blow-Up, was released on the Re Elect The President label, a precursor to Acid Jazz. The band's debut album, Mission Impossible, was released the following year, predominantly consisting of covers of 60s film themes such as Alfie, Mrs Robinson and Goldfinger. In the early 1990s, the single Love The Life reached the Top 40, and the accompanying album, Supernatural Feeling, settled in the Top 30 UK charts. After releases on Polydor and Big Life Records, JTQ returned to Acid Jazz, and In The Hand of The Inevitable remains the label's biggest selling album to date. In 1997 James had the chance to fulfil a dream when he was asked to score the theme tune to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, the spy spoof starring Mike Myers and Elizabeth Hurley. JTQ’s Whole Lotta Live album was nominated for a MOBO award in 1998, and the following year James featured on Tom Jones’ duets album, Reload. James’ musical talent has been admired by numerous other acts: The Wonderstuff, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues and U2 have all featured James and his distinctive Hammond sound on their albums.
Fat Dog

Fat Dog

1 Nov 2025 - 1 Nov 2025

Fat Dog’s particular brand of chaos seems a fine antidote to the remains of pent-up lockdown frustration. The collective scream has found a mouth; the potential energy has been activated. Joe’s singing, his words slurred and distorted in the time-honoured tradition of delta bluesmen, melds to Jazz’s wordless vocals, high and keening like some punk banshee princess, equal parts Grace Slick and Yoko Ono.

Peat & Diesel

Peat & Diesel

4 May 2025 - 25 Oct 2025

The story began when three Stornoway Cove's (Innes, Uilly and Boydie) met up in the house to have the craic on a Saturday night playing music with just the dog and the cat watching. After a few tunes getting thrown across the room Boydie stated muttering a few sentences. As he is a man of few words no attention was really given to him until he shouted 'Quick, line me out!' Not a second to spare a set of old broken headphones were cable tied to a guitar amp and out came a few cobwebs followed shortly after with a sound nobody had ever heard before. What came next was five gallons of lyrics, verse after verse, song after song Peat & Diesel was born! The songs won't make much sense to the average person, but the person behind the lyrics isn't your average man so if you have a listen and you can relate to it you are a special breed! Peat & Diesel Light my Byre takes you on a journey to the heart of the Western Isles, where #peatlemania was born. You might have time for a brandy in the 'Airidh' but don't miss your ride in Calum Dan's Transit Van, we ain't stopping till we lose the water!

Honeyglaze

Honeyglaze

22 May 2025 - 22 May 2025

In their own words: “Hi we are Honeyglaze, and there’s no time to explain." Honeyglaze are South London based, haiku-loving trio comprised of vocalist and guitarist Anouska Sokolow, bassist Tim Curtis, and Yuri Shibuichi on drums. Born out of lead songwriter Sokolow’s un-desire to be a solo-act, the group met officially at their first ever rehearsal- just three days ahead of what was to become a near-residency, at their favoured ‘The Windmill’, Brixton. Forming a mere five-months ahead of a subsequent five-months of mandatory solitude, a parallel that’s both aligned and universally un-timely, Honeyglaze, at first appearance, are a group who play with chance, time, and synergetic fate, in a manner few others are able to do. Pricking the ears of seminal producer Dan Carey and his team of merry taste-makers: Speedy Wunderground (Tiña, Squid, Black Country New Road), initial brainstorms saw the Speedy Wunderground / Honeyglaze partnership manifest into a dynamic that, quite simply, just worked despite having never met before. The resulting body of work that was spawned of this instant chemistry is an album that tackles themes varying from jealousy to inadequacy, cushion-y companionships to the smell of coffee on clothes, as with all good reflections of self, Honeyglaze is a fly on the wall opportunity to get to know three familial strangers in your own way- whilst they too suss out themselves, and the ever-growing circle around them, in the span of 35 minutes.

Chantel McGregor

Chantel McGregor

23 May 2025 - 1 Nov 2025

The Blues came calling first, but rock was always waiting around the corner. Well it would be, wouldn’t it? Coming from the deep south, it was inevitable, but living in the deep south of a major Yorkshire City, there’s a gritty hard edge to life! A female guitar prodigy, Chantel was told by a major label that she had a "great voice, but girls don't play guitar like that!" Wisely ignoring their comments, she enrolled at the Leeds College of Music and became the first student in the college’s history, to achieve a 100% pass mark at BTEC, with 18 distinctions. Chantel then pursued further education and left with a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music and a coveted prize, the college’s musician of the year award. Chantel released her highly anticipated second album, Lose Control, in October 2015 on her independent boutique label Tis Rock Music, this being the follow up to her critically acclaimed 2011 debut album, Like No Other.

Connor Selby

Connor Selby

30 Jul 2025 - 30 Jul 2025

I have been watching this young troubadour Connor Selby's progress for a few years now after I first spotted him at the 100 Club. I find his grasp of and feel for the Blues very soulful and deep. One of the brightest talents on the UK blues scene. He has been voted Young Artist of the Year at the UK Blues Awards for the last 4 years. He already has an impressive venue checklist, including Wembley Stadium, where he opened for The Who in July 2019 and has since gone on to play Hyde Park, London, with Pearl Jam, Stereophonics and Johnny Marr in the summer of 2022. Connor has also opened for such luminaries as Robert Cray and Beth Hart, each time gathering fresh admirers. Here's a review from Jace Media:: " There are many great blues singer guitarists out there right now, including the likes of old Slow Hand himself, Walter Trout and the player who's probably currently the man of the moment, Joe Bonamassa but believe me, Connor Selby is right up there with them and is one of the very best." LIGHTNING THREADS - another band that blew me away when I first witnessed them at the 100 Club., they are a Blues-Rock power trio hailing from Sheffield, influenced by the great rock musicians of another time. Often compared to The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr. Cream & The Doors.. Featuring face-melting guitars, groove-ridden basslines, and a multi-instrumentalist drummer simultaneously playing keys, they make a refreshing change.

His debut album 'Follow The Plan' featured Matt writing and playing all the instruments on the album and has a gritty raw blues feel. In 2015 Matt hit the studio to record his second album, featuring Andy Norris on Drums, Roger Inniss on bass guitar and produced by Stuart Dixon. Lilly Hiatt

Lilly Hiatt

20 Oct 2025 - 26 Oct 2025

Lilly Hiatt's love of the '90s alt-rock she was raised on shines through on Trinity Lane in the distressed guitars and urgent backbeats. She cites the Pixies, Breeders, Dinosaur Jr., and her favourites, Pearl Jam as influences, but there is also something distinctly Americana lurking in the songs. After moving out of an ex's house, Hiatt settled into a new apartment off of Trinity Lane in her East Nashville neighbourhood and went on tour with friend John Moreland to the West Coast and back. The intensely personal, autobiographical album was written largely upon her return, in isolation, facing the issues she escaped while on the road. Every time she wanted a man, she picked up her guitar. Every time she wanted a drink, she picked up her guitar. Hiatt says, 'Love will take you to the darkest places but also the most honest places if you let it. Learning how to love myself is something I've always been lousy with, and I spent some time on that. I thought about my sobriety, what that means to me, the struggles I'd had throughout the years, since I was a 27-year-old and hung up my toxic drinking habit. I thought about my mother, who took her own life when I was a baby, not far from my age at 30 years old, and I related to her more than ever. As you can see, there was plenty of time spent on my own. I didn't talk to that many folks, albeit a few close friends, and leaned into my family. I stayed away from men, and danced alone in the evenings, looking out my window observing my humble and lively neighbourhood. I found power in being by myself. I found peace in the people I was surrounded with we didn't really know one another, but we smiled when passed on the street. One time I almost rear-ended an older woman in her car backing out of my driveway and I said, Oh man, I'm just not used to any cars coming around this bend. She replied, This is our little hideout, baby, And it really was.' She continues, 'After a while, I had all these songs to play, and wanted to share them. I wanted to get out of town to get some distance from everything, so after an ongoing conversation with Michael Trent, I took my band to Johns Island, SC and we holed up for a few weeks. I poured my heart out, and trusted them with it, and these guys gave it right back. I think we all understood what it's like to question home, intention, demons, love I think most people understand that.' Lilly Hiatt returned with Trinity Lane in August 2017. The 12-song set was produced by Michael Trent of Shovels & Rope and engineered by Andy Dixon at Trent's Studio Bees in Johns Island, SC. In addition to her backing band, Trent is featured as a musician throughout, and is joined by his wife and Shovels & Rope partner Cary Ann Hearst for backing vocals on Everything I Had. 'Lilly is as real and honest of a songwriter as they come,' says Trent. 'Fearless and thoughtful and a total joy to be around.' NPR Music is premiering the full album as a First Listen, stating, 'On Trinity Lane, the third album by this fixture of Nashville's indie scene and first for New West she's devoted to excruciatingly revealing expression, deftly manipulating the tone and perspective of her songwriting from track to track. Her treatment of pain can, remarkably, feel both considered and diaristic.' They continue, 'Her willingness to portray herself in moments of anger or neediness that others might deem unseemly, particularly coming from a woman, and to examine gender divisions in emotional labor at close range, is courageous and affecting.' Paste Magazine previously premiered the video for the album's single The Night David Bowie Died, exclaiming that Trinity Lane is 'going to be one for the books'. Of the song, Hiatt offered, 'The night David Bowie died, I was in disbelief. I wanted to talk to someone, but it was too late to make a phone call. I cried quietly and went to bed. The next day, I picked up my guitar and hit record on Garage Band. I started to sing and those were the first words that came out. I felt like Bowie was giving me a little gift.'

Sacred Paws + Widget + Junk Whale

Sacred Paws + Widget + Junk Whale

18 May 2025 - 18 May 2025

Divine Schism welcome Sacred Paws to town to celebrate their new album Jump Into Life, out on 28th March after a five year hiatus! We're delighetd that Widget and Junk Whales are playing too - what a riotious bill! When Sacred Paws broke through with their debut record they did so with firm intent and rousing success. The duo of Ray Aggs (Trash Kit, Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers (Golden Grrrls) took their roots in the punk world and wound it together with myriad influences, from Afrobeat, through pop and post-punk, to create a glorious and unique hybrid. Strike A Match, the band's urgent and infectious first offering, was released on Mogwai's Rock Action label in 2017 and won the prestigious Scottish Album of the Year Award that same year. That success was quickly capitalised on with another full-length effort, the band's second LP Run Around The Sun, which was released in 2019. More than five years have now passed since that release, and while Sacred Paws absence wasnt necessarily deliberate it was certainly intentional - Ray and Eilidh deciding that rather than force the work, they would take as long as they felt they needed to produce the album they knew they were capable of! All ages (u14s with an adult) and wheelchair accessible show at the Little Bully!

Preoccupations

Preoccupations

19 May 2025 - 19 May 2025

Thrilled to be bringing Preoccupations to Oxford for the first time! We've admired this band for years, dating back to when they were initially called Viet Cong! The band are out touring their fifth album, coming very soon, and guaranteed to be a stunner. Here's some more info from the band: With love and pride, Preoccupations present to you: Ill at Ease, our 5th long play and our first on the Born Losers record label. After thousands of hours of scrutinizing over every last detail of this record, I find myself with the unenviable task of now trying to explain why we made the thing, what the thing is, and who we are. Weve been defining and redefining for a mostly very lucky 13 years. Lucky if not counting all of the broken bones, broken vehicles, exploding gear, stolen gear, lost baggage, lost friends, lost hearing, and lost minds. We once thought some of these misfortunes might be exceptional, but getting older we realize these are all just things that come with the territory, and the rewards we get for the passing of time. Weve played 400+ shows across the globe, usually living and working together in claustrophobic quarters. Weve aged together, making albums along the way. Some have even been reasonably acclaimed, others have been merely tolerated. Which brings us to the now and our album Ill at Ease. It's hard to say how it fits into our canon, but it's definitely drawing from places or genres that we havent drawn from in the past. Whether we want to admit it or not, any music were currently listening to is, Im sure, always informing our collective subconscious. The well of dark things to write about seemingly has not dried up, and lyrically, it's where I still tend to draw from. Draining all my anxieties into a song is often the only way I can get through a day. Some songs exist in a world with barren plains of burnt earth, covered in a dust of shame, dread, death, where all the things I love are things that kill me. Some come from the perspective of another distant world, looking skyward into a science fiction ocean of space, solitude, slight hope. Sometimes Im looking around at the world that we live in now with incredulity, hilariously dissatisfied with how it's all turned out, and assuming that it cant be long before it's all over. Some songs are just a reflection of me looking down at my feet while I trudge along wondering what Im doing with myself, and if the ground is going to fall out from underneath me at any given moment. At the end of it all though, this is simply another collection of new songs, and after 13 years, it is our pleasure and our privilege to still be making new things and to be sharing these new worlds weve created. For now, the ground is still firmly beneath us, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it might not be for long, and we will forever be, Ill at Ease. FYI this show is all ages (under 14s accompanied by an adult) and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
