Formed in 1998 in Zurich, Switzerland, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion exists in a middle ground between the traditionalism of many rockabilly revival bands and the rougher, spookier sound of psychobilly. Founded by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Emanuela Hutter and bassist/vocalist Oliver Baroni, their music has more than its share of retro twang, with Hutter's polished, enigmatic singing blending with the sometimes raucous, sometimes moody guitar lines, and they add dashes of rockabilly, surf, blues, punk, lounge pop, country and even ska to season their evocative mix. The band staked out their trademark sound on 2002's Introducing the Hillbilly Moon Explosion, they fully hit their creative stride on 2011's Buy Beg or Steal, and they collaborated with psychobilly veteran Mark "Sparky" Phillips for 2019's The Sparky Sessions. The Dreaming Spires

The Dreaming Spires

26 Apr 2026 - 26 Apr 2026

The Dreaming Spires are a British band, based in Oxfordshire, known for their distinctive harmonies, roots-infused sound, and Americana-tinged indie rock. Their music has drawn comparisons to artists such as Big Star, Gram Parsons, Teenage Fanclub, and The Byrds, incorporating elements of Americana, country, folk/rock, and classic 60s pop. The Dreaming Spires marked their eagerly awaited return with the release of their new album, 'Normal Town', on November 7th through Clubhouse Records, the band's third album and their first new music in nearly a decade. Exploring themes of home, nostalgia, alienation and the beauty of the everyday, the record blends 60s rock n roll influences, nodding to the Who, Jeff Lynne and the Everly Brothers, and chamber pop accents underpinned by a subtle layer of political commentary, with tracks like Normalisation, 21st Century Light Industrial and the title track Normal Town, which pays homage to their hometown of Didcot, once dubbed "the most normal town in England." Brothers Robin and Joe Bennett previously formed the Oxfordshire indie band Goldrush in the early 2000s, which signed to Virgin Records. Over the last decade, they have toured the world as part of Saint Etienne's live band and the award- winning group Bennett Wilson Poole. Jamie Dawson drums for touring US artists such as Annie Keating and Carter Sampson, while Tom Collison also plays keys in Danny & the Champions of the World. Nick Fowler is band member of choice for the likes of Gaz Coombes and Peter Buck. Perfect for letting the wind blow back your hair as you cruise that four-lane freeway down the West Coast of Oxfordshire... ★★★★ Shindig! A lot of people are going to feel seen by Normal Town ★★★★ The Morning Star Flavours of Big Star, The Byrds and Grandaddy can all be heard amongst lyrics dealing with fading high streets, the quiet exasperation of zero hours contracts and questionable town planning. ★★★★ MOJO

Lande Hekt

Lande Hekt

25 Apr 2026 - 25 Apr 2026

Thrilled to be working with Lande Hekt once more! The former singer of Muncie Girls is releasing her third solo album Lucky Now soon, and based on first single Favourite Pair of Shoes it's going to be an absolute banger, and we're delighted to be bringing her to Little Bully for a wonderful Saturday afternoon matinee show! Some more info on Lande and the new album: Lande Hekt has quietly become one of the UK's best underground songwriters. On her 2021 debut full-length Going To Hell and 2022's House Without a View, she explored her queer identity, sobriety, and childhood trauma through the lens of heartfelt, conversational indie-pop, which led to spots opening for the likes of Alvvays, Throwing Muses and The Beths. Her new album Lucky Now, written and recorded with producer Matthew Simms (Wire, It Hugs Back), reflects the most mature and confident version of Lande Hekt yet. Im not as concerned about how Im presenting myself, Hekt says. Ive tried to think less about how things are coming across, and just write songs that make me feel connected to myself and what I value. Hekt's musical touchstones The Wedding Present, The Sundays, The Replacements remain the same, but at the same time she's delved deeper into other influences. Lucky Now is indebted to 1980s twee-pop and jangle-pop like The Pastels, Tallulah Gosh and The Bats, plus more modern iterations of the sound such as Autocamper and Jeanines, in its ecstatic, soaring melodies and gorgeous, tactile guitars. The sound is fitting for Hekt's new lyrical outlook, where, though despair and anxiety rear their heads, she digs deep to find the gratitude. I wanted to try and push for something slightly more positive, which Im trying to do more of generally just to not fall apart, Hekt says. In keeping with that, opening track Kitchen ii is a love song about sharing simple, domestic moments with a partner, while Rabbits is a song about hope inspired by one summer solstice spent on Glastonbury Tor. Meanwhile, the slower, acoustic-based Middle of the Night is about reeling from a realisation of being properly happy for the first time in my life, Hekt says. Hekt also returns to more politically-based songwriting, after largely avoiding politics in both life and music during a disillusioned period, on Circular (they change the law like it's a game and were the pawns getting played) and A Million Broken Hearts. If you get swept up in the notion that being politically engaged in any way is embarrassing, that is so dangerous, Hekt says now. It's really important to try and find a way to reject that. During the process of making the album, Hekt also moved from Bristol back to her hometown of Exeter. She wrote Lucky Now's closing track, Coming Home, about the experience of returning there after a long tour; smelling the familiar smells, spotting the familiar faces. In a lot of ways, Lucky Now is about return return to joy, return to places and parts of the self once left behind. Who you once were can seem unreachable, but sometimes you can build a bridge.

Deerhoof

Deerhoof

10 May 2026 - 10 May 2026

Divine Schism are beyond stoked to welcome Deerhoof back to Oxford! For a band that seems to thrive on collapse, it's simply amazing that this US/Japanese quartet is now celebrating their 31st year. Though Deerhoof long ago established itself as one of the greatest rock groups ever to stride the earthand if you think that's hyperbole, you havent seen them livethe furiously inventive quartet releases new albums on the schedule of a young band still hungry for its first break. Each one discovers some previously unknown combination of candy-coated hard-rock riffs and free-jazz percussive freakouts, sideways J-pop hooks and fearsome dissonance, trenchant social commentary and surrealist humor. Fronting it all is Satomi Matsuzaki's inimitable alto, whose plainspoken calm can seem strangely outside of the band's maelstrom. This music is joyful and foreboding, cybernetic and deeply human, carrying an implicit note of defiant optimism in their refusal to bow to convention or received wisdom. Deerhoof is defined by such paradoxes. Important information: Important information: Deerhoof tour covid secure. This is really important and something we would really appreciate your support in to help make the band feel as comfortable as possible. We understand that to many it feels as though covid is over but for people with serious health conditions there are still anxieties around being in crowded spaces - we will be encouraging mask wearing at the show and they will be free to collect at the venue

Earthball

21 Apr 2026 - 21 Apr 2026

Divine Schism welcome Earth Ball to Oxford for the first time, hot on the heels of their No.2 album of the year (via Upset the Rhythm) on the Quietus! They come to the Little Bully on Tues 21st April, 2026. EARTHBALL are a wild ensemble from Canada, mainly based on Vancouver Island. EarthBall's live shows epitomise their commitment to spontaneous composition, offering audiences a unique experience with each performance. The last two years have seen EarthBall release their debut LP 'It's Yours' and a live album entitled 'Actual Earth Music - Volume 1 & 2' featuring Chris Corsano and Steve Beresford on Upset The Rhythm. This winter they returned with their best effort to date 'Outside Over There - a gathering of sound at the forest's edge; where feedback, saxophone screams, and ecstatic vocals dissolve the boundary between chaos and clarity. Perhaps John Olson of Wolf Eyes sums up the album best: Outside Over There is an eight-track odyssey that unfolds like a dreamscape, where whispered incantations brush against the shadowy fringes of the cosmos, and wild, Cézanne-inspired rock anthems erupt like geysers of color in the midst of a western warm and wet rain storm culminating in the sprawling eleven-minute masterpiece, And The Music Shall Untune The Sky, aptly dubbed the Earth Crusher. A creation so utterly deconstructed and intertwined with the pulse of nature itself that if AI was called upon to conceive Outside Over There anew, it would just spit back, F.U. in Tree Font. An enchanting invitation for even the flat-earthers to join the circle, if only just a little.
