The Dirty Nil

27 Jun 2026 - 7 Jul 2026

The Dirty Nil play rock and roll. Loud, distorted, and out of control, they play like it's a fever they're trying to sweat out. Reveling in the din of distorted guitars, pounding drums, and desperately howled vocals, the Hamilton Ontario three-piece makes music for turntables and hi-fi's - music for dive bars and house parties - for beer drinking and joint smoking - for road trips and barbecues - for fighting and yelling and shouting and singing and screaming and howling - for sweating and bleeding - trying and failing and trying again anyways. Gravel-in-your guts, spit-in-your-eye, staggering, bloodthirsty rock and roll. They have two 7"s available that capture the snarl and destructive noise they create. The Dirty Nil play rock and roll - cause they couldn't do a damn thing else if they tried.

Discharge

Discharge

16 Oct 2026 - 19 Dec 2026

“Can you hear the sound of an enormous door slamming in the depths of hell…?”Not only is this the chilling description given of a nuclear detonation during one of the sound-bite samples on the first Discharge album, but it’s also a perfect description of the Stoke, UK-based punk band that turned the world of underground music on its head with their primal bursts of uncompromising speed and aggression. Formed in the late Seventies Discharge changed the face of punk – and indeed extreme music itself – with their stunning ‘Realities Of War’ EP, a four-song outpouring of pure intensity that boiled punk down to its basic components of rage, frustration and violent rebellion. Discharge stumbled upon a sound that was so ugly, it was beautiful; so horrifying, it was irresistible – and it ushered in a whole new wave of gnarlier, nastier UK punk, and ultimately paved the way for hardcore and thrash.

Agriculture at Castle and Falcon

Agriculture at Castle and Falcon

20 Jun 2026 - 20 Jun 2026

Extreme music has the ability to be a powerful mode of expression for feelings of absolute bliss, overwhelming love, and awe-inspiring sublimity. Extreme emotions no less and those which black metal quartetAgriculture, a recent signing to The Flenser, evokes with its ecstatic subversion of the sub-genres tropes. Daniel Meyer from the band was quoted when interviewed by The Fader as sayingAt its best, extreme music is about pushing every aspect of the musical experience towards something that feels like a limit. On a musical level, that might involve playing hella fast, super-dense textures, detuned guitars, impossible drumming, and screaming. But its also the live show, which can involve moshing, weird dancing, or just the act of listening to something so intense. In the past, even though a lot of artists have used these techniques to describe horrible aspects of the human experience, the live shows are often scenes of communal ecstasy. I bet that anyone who has ever been to a good black or death metal show can attest to the sense of catharsis and joy that comes from gathering to listen to such intense music. Staying a bird, staying independent, free if you will, for three decades, that takes skill and something else, something more like heart. Music journalist John Corbett on The Ex.

7 Oct 2026 - 25 Oct 2026

Formed in 1978 with a core line-up of Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson, A Certain Ratio emerged from the hallowed grounds of the late 70s punk scene, and from that day on they’ve moved forwards with gleeful disregard for the boundaries of style and genre, their eye fixed firmly on constant progression. It’s an ethos that’s open-minded over all else, and that’s seen the band take everything from experimental electronica to vintage funk, and filter it through their own Mancunian lens.

Militarie Gun

Militarie Gun

8 Jun 2026 - 13 Jul 2026

Militarie Gun can’t be stopped. In just two short years since their inception, the Los Angeles-based group have been turning heads with a menacing-yet-melodic sound that’s impossible to ignore and a creative drive that borders on obsession. Formed in 2020, Militarie Gun is defined by the musical restlessness of vocalist/mastermind Ian Shelton. “I’ve always been the kind of person who’s very compelled to do things,” he explains. “Everything suddenly becomes urgent, and that’s how I feel about songwriting—it’s just something I have to do when the inspiration comes.” The band–whose lineup has expanded to include guitarists Nick Cogan and William Acuña, drummer Vince Nguyen, and bassist Max Epstein–draw on a wide range of influences to make something that sounds combative yet accessible, and undeniably their own. There’s the unhinged guitarwork of Born Against, the propulsive cadences of hip hop, the up-front bass of Fugazi–and most importantly, the hooks. Militarie Gun’s songs are instantly memorable, employing a melodic sensibility that’s just as informed by the work of Robert Pollard and Paul McCartney as it is by Black Flag. All Roads Lead To The Gun (Deluxe) marks the culmination of the group’s first two years but the 12 songs make it clear that Militarie Gun’s caustic-yet-catchy sound can’t be easily contained within just hardcore or pop songwriting. This is an ever-evolving band can go in any direction they might want–and Militarie Gun are just getting started.

Supersonic Festival Presents a Celebration of Birmingham’s Heavy Music Underground The None + Flesh Creep + Machiavellian Art + Monoxide Brothers + Not Soup
Supersonic Festival presents an uncompromising showcase of Birmingham’s thriving heavy music underground this July, bringing together some of the city’s most exciting and uncompromising artists for a special hometown event at the Castle & Falcon. Headlined and curated by THE NONE as a celebration of Birmingham’s musical community, the line-up reflects the breadth, intensity and creative spirit of the city’s contemporary heavy scene, spanning noise rock, hardcore, experimental punk, industrial electronics and fractured underground sounds. Joining THE NONE on the bill are Flesh Creep, Machiavellian Art, Monoxide Brothers and Not Soup, five acts united by a fiercely independent ethos and a shared commitment to pushing heavy music into adventurous new territory. THE NONE are a band of lifelong musicians, featuring Birmingham and Supersonic Recordings’ own Kai Whyte (Blue Ruth, Youth Man) alongside Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party, Young Legionnaire), Jim Beck (Cassels) and Chris Francombe (Frauds). Together they channel a raw and uncompromising vision of noise rock with melody at its core, drawing influence from bands such as The Jesus Lizard, Silverfish and Unwound. Formed in 2023, the band’s collaborative and ego-free approach has quickly established them as one of the UK underground’s most compelling new voices. Flesh Creep describe themselves as “friendly people that make unfriendly music,” combining hardcore intensity with sharp humour, pop sensibilities and a rejection of genre machismo. The band will be performing in support of their anticipated new EP GLIMMER, released the day before the show on 17 July via Music For Nations. Machiavellian Art bring abrasive punk and noise textures shaped by anxiety, overload and modern disillusionment, music that sits somewhere between collapse and catharsis. Electro-punk duo Monoxide Brothers fuse raw synth-driven rhythms with biting social commentary, balancing chaos, catharsis and dark humour in equal measure. Opening the event are NOT SOUP, one of Birmingham’s most unpredictable underground acts, whose experimental live shows blend complex rhythms, surreal lyricism and disorientating riffs into something uniquely their own. As one of the UK’s leading festivals for experimental and heavy music, Supersonic Festival has long championed Birmingham’s underground scenes and creative communities. This event continues that commitment by spotlighting the city’s next wave of boundary-pushing artists and reaffirming Birmingham’s status as a vital centre for heavy and experimental music culture, the Home of Metal.

Theatre Of Hates debut double-A-side single, Legion/Original Sin, topped the independent chart in 1980, and Westworld, their debut album, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982, held the number one position for 21 weeks.
