Manford's Comedy Club

Manford's Comedy Club

5 Sept 2025 - 10 Jul 2026

A message from Jason Manford: Hello there, Jason here, thanks for stopping by. I've been wondering for a while now, why is local stand up comedy not high up on the list of what people think about doing when looking for a great night out. So where do we go? The local pub for a few drinks? Cinema? Maybe a meal with a loved one or a cheeky midweek quiz with some mates. Some people still go out clubbing at one of those city centre discotheques! (shudders). Even ten-pin bowling is considered higher up than comedy! How can that be? How can throwing a massive rock at ten wooden things be more fun than sitting in a dark room with your friends or partner, drink in hand, watching someone funny tell jokes that make you all laugh from your belly for hours and hours and give you something to talk about all the next day? Well let me tell you this: There is a circuit of brilliant comics in this country who thrive in the live arena and want to make you laugh on a regular basis, so I'm going to tell you who they are. My plan is this: I'm going to carefully select some of my favourite comedians from the circuit and send them to a town near you. Simple! Keep on laughing folks, and remember, there's nothing like live!

Simon Yates

Simon Yates

24 May 2026 - 24 May 2026

A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike! On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed and with the publication of the book ‘Touching The Void’, later film and stage play, both climbers became household names. It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering - but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited. Come along and witness Simon’s tireless journey from that mountain in Peru to some of the remotest on the planet and share with him the drama, excitement and beauty of modern, lightweight alpinism. Told with wit, dry humour and lavishly illustrated with images and film collected on his great climbs. “Simon is a totally engaging speaker, who both entertains and inspires.”

Popular local drama group, the Allerton Players, present ‘Last Christmas’, a comedy whodunnit by Deborah Hugill. Every year at Christmas four ghosts haunt Fortune Cottage, where, in different decades, they all died during the festive period. One of them, Carol Booth, has always been convinced that she was murdered. As Christmas comes round again and new guests arrive to spend the holidays at Fortune Cottage, can Carol and her fellow ghosts finally work out what happened on the night she died in 1984? Miles Jupp

Miles Jupp

3 Oct 2025 - 14 May 2026

Since Miles’ last tour finished at The London Palladium in 2017, he’s been in The Full Monty on Disney Plus, The Durrells and Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? on ITV, as well as a heap of episodes of Frankie Boyle’s New World Order and Have I Got News For You. He’s made an award-winning radio series and he’s published a novel. But for Covid, he would have played a lead at the RSC. Hey ho. Nevertheless he’s done a play in the West End and played the Emperor of Austria and Europe in a Ridley Scott film. Yet one sunny day in the middle of all this, he suddenly suffered a brain seizure. This led to the discovery of a tumour the size of a cherry tomato, and a rather pressing need to undergo major neurosurgery. Obviously, one doesn’t wish to make a big deal of it, but the experience has left him with a story to tell and a few things that he’d like to share with the room. So that’s exactly what he’s doing in his new show On I Bang – a tale about surprise, fear, luck, love and qualified medical practitioners. “JOYFUL SHOW ABOUT NEAR-DEATH IS HIS BEST YET” ★★★★ THE TIMES 2024 “ELEGANTLY FUNNY ,TERRIBLY ENGLISH ACCOUNT OF A TUMOUR “ ★★★★ THE GUARDIAN 2024 ★★★★★ The Telegraph ★★★★ Chortle 2024
