John Bramwell

John Bramwell

8 May 2025 - 30 Nov 2025

John Harold Arnold Bramwell, to give him his full name, is perhaps best-known for his time as the songwriter and frontman of Manchester three-piece, I Am Kloot. However, he also possesses an enviable back catalogue as a solo artist and continues to work on new material under the guise of his latest band, John Bramwell & The Full Harmonic Convergence. Bramwell’s first studio output appeared in 1989, when he was performing and recording as Johnny Dangerously and entitled You Me & The Alarm Clock, an album The Guardian referred to as one of the ‘greatest albums you’ve never heard.’ Following a stint as a television presenter and as a member of the band, The Mouth, Bramwell formed I Am Kloot, with two members of The Mouth. They went on to record six studio albums, including the Mercury-Prize nominated album, Sky At Night. Since 2016, Bramwell has reverted to being a solo artist and tours continuously, around the UK and Europe. A home-recorded solo album, Leave Alone the Empty Spaces appeared in 2018 and the follow-up, a more expansive affair, with a working title of The Light Fantastic, is now scheduled for release in 2022.

Peter Bruntnell

Peter Bruntnell

9 May 2025 - 10 Jun 2025

The singer-songwriter performs his original material. Rolling Stone once declared Peter Bruntnell to be, “one of England's best kept musical secrets”. England has successfully managed to keep Peter Bruntnell a secret for all this time, even from itself. “Maybe this will be the album to finally give him the worldwide superstar recognition he deserves!”, enthused every other Peter Bruntnell album review from the last 20+ years, with an admirably unwavering optimism. “If we lived in a just world, Peter Bruntnell would by now be in the middle of his third or fourth global arena tour, his biggest worry working out how to courier his latest armful of Grammy awards back to the UK so his butler could have them installed in the west wing of mansion by the time he got home,” said a feature in The Guardian in 2016, intent on letting the cat out of the bag, but failing miserably. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Needless to say, we don’t live in a just world and Peter Bruntnell is still having to get by without a butler. Not even 2021’s primarily solo, slightly synthy lockdown album Journey To The Sun succeeded in putting an end to Peter's non-success, despite Mojo echoing the plea that, “Somehow, some way, this cult and infinitely class songwriter must get his due wider recognition”. The Scottish Daily Express with its 5 star review, slightly frustrated, said, or perhaps yelled, “I’m getting tired of saying this: He’s brilliant”. The Irish Times thoughtfully combined two quotes into one, saving us the trouble of going back and getting crushed under the sheer weight of Peter’s archive of press quotes: “With Journey To The Sun, the man whose songs NME once noted should be placed on school curriculums has done it again.” And he continues to do so. Peter’s forthcoming new album, Houdini And The Sucker Punch will do little to dispel this fantasy of world domination, but it remains unlikely to become in any way a reality. He will remain the secret singer-songwriter, lauded by the likes of Rumer, Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo's Jay Farrar, Kathleen Edwards, Richmond Fontaine/The Delines' Willy Vlautin, Kurt Wagner of Lampchop and various members of R.E.M.

50rpm Fundraiser

50rpm Fundraiser

6 Jun 2025 - 6 Jun 2025

50rpm is a not-for-profit music community based in Coatbridge, Scotland, set up to bring live music to the town. Grassroots music venues like ours are the very lifeblood of the industry. They are the foundatios that the future of the live music industry is built upon. The likes of Live nation / Ticketmaster don't develope acts. They don't encourage the future generations. They profit form our dedication and put nothing back. Over the years we have invested in buying the best equipment we can afford so that both the acts and audiences get the best sound but as our equipment ages and needs repaired, we find ourselves unable to afford to replace and repair it. This fundraising night is to hopefully allow us to be able to do this and secure the future of 50rpm. Performing at the fundraiser is local legend JJ Gilmour (formerly of The Silencers), the fantastic Ewan MacFarlane (Grim Northern Social / Apollo 440) & the outstanding songwriter & poet Sulidae. We will be announcing more acts over the next few weeks. Some people have let us know that they are unable to attend but would like to support us so we have set up a Go Fund Me page where all donations will be gratefully received: link here
Ed Tudor-Pole: Songs & Stories from a Punk Rock Icon
We are delighted to welcome the wonderful punk icon Edward Tudor-Pole to 50rpm for a night of music & stories Please note we have a no talking policy when the acts are performing. If you can't manage to show the acts and your fellow gig goers the proper respect, don't buy a ticket Ed Tudor Pole will be best known to many as the frontman of the band Tenpole Tudor, and hits like 'The Swords of a Thousand Men', or maybe as the host of the popular Channel 4 show The Crystal Maze, or perhaps for his many movie appearances, but however you know Ed, he has a story to tell about them all. Briefly a member of the Sex Pistols, Ed has had a fascinating and colourful life and a varied, unpredictable career. He appeared in the Pistols film 'The Great Rock n Roll Swindle' before fronting Tenpole Tudor. But before all that, Ed attended RADA, which stood him in good stead when he moved away from being in front of the mic, to in front of the camera, appearing in film like 'Sid & Nancy' and 'Absolute Beginners'. When Channel 4 axed The Crystal Maze, Ed returned to his first love of music & gigging. March 2025 sees the release of Ed's memoirs, 'The Pen Is Mightier', which details an extraordinary career and life, this is both fascinating and extremely funny. This very special one man show sees Ed perform hits from Tenpole Tudor along with songs that he loves and have influenced him, interspersed with stories from his life & career and a chance to ask Ed some questions. We can't wait for this very special intimate evening with a true punk rock icon.
Rob Wheeler

Rob Wheeler

14 Jun 2025 - 14 Jun 2025

It is a welcome return to the fantastic Rob Wheeler after his sold-out show with us last year. Joining Rob to open for him is our old friend and virtuoso guitarist Ben Hughes (Hughzy). Please note we operate a no talking policy when acts are performing. If you can't manage this don't buy a tickets. Be a considerate gig goer and respect the artist and your fellow audience members Raised by a loving single mum, in a small North West town in the UK, Rob discovered music was a way of escaping the bullies and troubles that came with being the poor kid in a council house - playing Hank, Cash, Eagles & Beatles on his cheap guitar on the outhouse roof, overlooking the asbestos garages and uniformed blue doors of his neighbourhood, romanticising a life on the road like his heroes. In 2012 Rob's life changed forever. A medical diagnosis, leaving him as a self described Nowhere Man, led to depression, addiction and ultimately a breakdown. I got help, and I learned to help myself, and I realised that life and music are gifts, so I poured my heart and soul into those instead of self destruction. A small legacy from his Grandfather gave him the opportunity to record and release his critically acclaimed debut album, which led to global publishing and label deals. Next would be Nashville; Tennessee, where Rob's reputation for songwriting, collaboration and hard work preceded him. Four months in The City Of Music, working with Jeff Trott, Steve Dorff & Frank Liddell amongst many others, resulted in the new record Leave Tomorrow; a true unification of UK and American country music. My heroes sang about cowboys and horses, desperados and drifters; but I write and sing about what I see and what I feel. And you know what, I believe that's the root of all great country music no matter where youre from - sharing your true feelings in a song, so that somebody listening is just a little less lonely. "There are household names that wish they were as good as him" - Neil McCormick - The Daily Telegraph "A strong sense of melody meets old fashioned song craft" - Paul Sexton - The Bob Harris Country Show "Endearing humility, virtuoso guitar and passionate gritty vocals" - Georgette Brookes - Build Our Own Nashville Tenderness, tragedy and bags of talent" - Chris Baxter - BBC Radio Ben Hughes better known by his stage moniker Hughzy (pronounced Hew-zee) is a name that resonates throughout the music scene. Hailing from the celebrated city of Liverpool, UK, a place renowned for its rich musical heritage and The Beatles fame, Ben is widely regarded as one of the most gifted guitarists of his generation. His international touring experience with artists like Mel C, Albert Lee, RFM and Fleetwood Mac, Hughzy's unparalleled musical prowess has taken him from the studio to the world stage, leaving an indelible mark wherever he goes. He is the director of Cherry Up Projects, an artist development program in the UK; the host of his music podcast, More In The Moni; and a TEDx speaker. Please note our venue is located upstairs and has no lift so is not suitable for those using wheelchairs and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
Blue Rose Code

Blue Rose Code

10 May 2025 - 18 Aug 2025

A nomad, both geographically and musically, songwriter Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code writes straight from – and to – the heart. His songs address universal themes of love, loss, travel, home, accepting the past and embracing the future in a deeply personal way. They are variously painted with the vibrant colours of folk, Americana, jazz, country, soul, pop and, increasingly, celtic traditions; an eclecticism that has seen him compared to John Martyn, Van Morrison and Tom Waits amongst
