The Vaselines

The Vaselines

20 Dec 2025 - 21 Dec 2025

The Vaselines were formed in Edinburgh in 1987 by singers/guitarists Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, soon signing to Pastels frontman Stephen Pastel's newly formed 53rd 3rd label. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain regularly cited the Vaselines influence in interviews with the music press and Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' Molly's Lips and Son of a Gun (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as perform Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on their legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Cobain's gospel-spreading no doubt accelerated their rise to cult sainthood, but the Vaselines would have gotten there sooner or later on their own accord. Lewd but nave and abrasive yet tender, the band's shambling, primitivist squall remains a perfect distillation of pop at its most guileless and euphoric.Eugene Kelly later went on to front Captain America / Eugenius, while McKee spent the better part of the decade out of sight, resurfaced in Suckle, and released a solo album in 2006. The Vaselines reunited proper in 2010 to record their second full album Sex With An X which was released on the Seattle label Sub Pop.This was followed by V for Vaselines in 2014. The Ramones inspired album featured many of the same players who helped make 'Sex.....', including Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, the 1990's Michael McGaughrin and Teenage Fanclub's Francis Macdonald.

Joshua Burnside

Joshua Burnside

22 Jul 2025 - 5 Aug 2025

Northern Irish experimental folk songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside is something of a regional anomaly. With a brooding, powerful sound echoing artists of places afar and time long gone, his enthralling craft defies local comparison in striving towards an aesthetic as much as visual as it is sonic. Balanced with a diverse palette of sounds, Burnside deftly blends alt-folk and elements of the Irish folk song tradition with South American rhythms and Eastern European influences, whilst introducing synthetic and found-sounds, synths loops and crunching beats to create a stormy world that shifts and swirls perspective like a lingering lucid dream.

Cud

Cud

24 Jul 2025 - 8 Nov 2025

Emerging from the same art/design cauldron that produced fellow Leeds legends Soft Cell, Scritti Politti, and The Mekons, CUD were the pre-Britpop answer to doleful shoegazing bands fun-loving, light-hearted, romantic and downright catchy. Alternatively loved or loathed like a yeast extract, CUD are indie rock for the unpretentious pleasure seeker, boasting as they do the rich deep-lunged voice of Carl Puttnam, edgy guitars of Mike Dunphy and tight, funky rhythm section of William Potter, bass and Gogs Byrn, drums. CUD were initially lauded for their quirky Peel session cover of You Sexy Thing in 1987. They soon built up a huge live following and buffed up their repertoire with a string of unstraight pop beauties, best exemplified by the 1990 album Leggy Mambo. This led to a major-label deal with A&M in 1991, front-page NME coverage, massive sellout gigs and proper Top 30 hits, Rich and Strange and Purple Love Balloon. Misunderstood by record companies and press, CUD packed away their guitars and sticks in 1995 but, bolstered by a greatest hits anthology (Rich and Strange) in 2006, they agreed to tread the boards again, with a further reunion following in 2012 (now with original guitarist and key songwriter Mike Dunphy) and continue to find an army of Space CUDets still eager to sing along, dance like fruitcakes and invade their stage.

David Lance Callahan

10 Aug 2025 - 10 Aug 2025

Former singer with C86 kingpins The Wolfhounds and 90s sample-crazed post-rock innovators Moonshake, David Lance Callahan has also toured and collaborated with PJ Harvey, Stereolab and My Bloody Valentine, and played at Lollapalooza and All Tomorrow's Parties. Over the last few years, he has pursued a well-received solo career, writing and performing spooked social commentary as part of his sui generis vision, accompanied by his unique guitar style. His two solo LPs so far English Primitive I and II have seamlessly mixed folk, blues, West African, Arabic and post-punk influences to produce a distinctive blend that could only exist in the 21st Century. The lyrics, for which he is equally renowned, hold their own next to the Blake and Auden poems he has also set to music. His recently released LP Down to the Marshes adds a horn section, string quartet and musical saw to the recipe and was voted one of the best albums of the year by LouderThanWar and Juno Daily, as well as receiving rave reviews in Mojo and Record Collector. It has been played many times on BBC 6Music, mostly on the Riley and Coe show. Most songs feature his regular drummer, Daren Garratt (formerly The Fall/nightingales/Pram, as well as Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Gallon Drunk) and Mel Draisey (The Clientele).
Lair

Lair

24 Jul 2025 - 29 Jul 2025

LAIR (pronounced “lah-eer,” a local dialect for the Indonesian word of ‘lahir’, meaning ‘birth’ or, roughly ‘being born’) is a 6-piece psych-soul/funk outfit hailing from Jatiwangi, West Java, Indonesia. Formed in 2018, LAIR’s music, lyrics, and its presentation are vivid, inherently gaudy (in a good way), and honest, taking a sizeable chunk of inspiration from classical/traditional Panturan Tarling, a form of now-grassroot musical/performance art popular amongst the people of a certain areas in the northern coast of West and Central Java. Taken outside of the group’s narratives, the music and lyrics speak for themselves, describing in detail, through aural means, how it is to live on the northern shores of the island of Java. The feeling of salt in the humid air; The tiniest drop of sweat as it runs down the neck of truckers zooming down the hectic roads of Pantura; Posters of the coming election candidates plastered throughout the villages; The lingering smell of burnt fuel in the air; The garish set of stickers decorating the windshield of rundown public transports, braving every pothole with their dangerously-rickety wheels; And, most of all, the scorching heat. All lovingly communicated through the charming perspective of the locals.

In support of his upcoming single, My Kinda Girl, Scott Lavene has announced an 11 date UK tour throughout September. My Kinda Girl is the third in a series of singles put out this year that will pave the way for his forthcoming debut album in 2019. Born in Essex, Scott Lavene was raised on power ballads, punk and swearing. In bands since his teens, Scott travelled about, scratching out a living with deadbeat jobs trying to find something to cling to. After couple of years in France and a brief stint in New York, including a playing at the infamous CBGB's Scott returned to London and came close to a major label deal with his sordid songs. Instead Scott disappeared on a rusty old boat, a floating shed, for five years. Hiding from the world. Broke and bemused. Solitude and lonely debauchery. After five years of this Scott went kaput, so spent some time in a house for the bewildered where he emerged full of life and songs. A self released album in a band called Big Top Heartbreak led to being signed to Funnel Music as a solo artist. The first single, 'It's All Gonna Blow' has been played by Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6Music show and Scott had a residency at the Brighton Fringe as well as a sell out show at Crofters Rights in Bristol for the 7inch vinyl release show.

Her debut EP ‘All That We Have’ dropped in November, praised by Crack Magazine, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova, and more. Her music blends Latin percussion, Theo Parrish-style groove, and West African-inspired basslines. Bandcamp Daily called her EP ‘The Best Electronic Music of November 2023,’ and DJ Mag named ‘BTR2’ a Top Track of 2023. Marla celebrated with live shows in Bristol and London and toured with Loyle Carner as a bassist and DJ. This year, she played Jazz Stroud and supported BCUC at The Jazz Cafe, with bookings at Shambala and Valley Festival. Released through Saffron Records, Marla is part of a movement uplifting women, trans, and non-binary artists. “Marla Kether has to be one of the most exciting talents to emerge this year. She’s already well established as a successful session bassist, but her own productions are a revelation, joining house, disco, post-punk, and heavy doses of Afro-Brazilian groove into something completely her own.” - Joe Muggs, Bandcamp Daily Presented by Acid Box. Dez Dare Album Launch

Dez Dare Album Launch

24 Sept 2025 - 24 Sept 2025

Come party with us for the Brighton launch for Dez Dare's new album, CHERYL! Your Love Shines Down Like A Supernova's Death with special guests from Australia, Lunar Dirt. "With prior albums attracting critical plaudits, there wasnt a chance I was gonna pass this one up for review purposes... King Tuff and Ty Segall came to mind while listening to the album for the sonic variety, effortlessly cool and outright hipness on offer. Hence, I would have no hesitation recommending it, check it out." The Sleeping Shaman [Reza Mills] "At a time when much of indie rock is drifting toward reverb-drenched melancholy or algorithm-friendly mush, Dez Dare is a welcome jolt of clarity. His music points out that punk rock music can still be smart, noise can still be meaningful, and absurdity can still be art. He makes records that feel like manifestos written in neon, sung through a bullhorn, blasted through fuzz pedals and synth wires... Dez Dare proves once again that he is one of the most interesting, inventive, and important voices in underground rock today." Thoughts Words Action "Dare raves his way through his latest batch of 11 new brain tilting songs - each pumping with frantic Casio keyboard induced rhythm and burning psychedelic guitar soloing. Completely nuts boy pop from a true master that has been nurtured over the years from overdosing on Devo, The Tubes and perhaps a shot of R Stevie Moore... From the opening four second synthesized trill of "CHERYL! [Loading...]" to the guitar shredding onslaught ripping through "Blistered Eyeballs", Dez Dare's ambition to "not be like everyone else" takes a step closer to being fulfilled." The Wire [Edwin Pouncey] "on the screamingly titled CHERYL!, he pours all the weirdness he can muster onto a single record. And he does so with more ferocity than ever before... this LP is a winner." The Big Takeover [Kurt Orzeck]

Saturdays At Your Place

Saturdays At Your Place

31 Jan 2026 - 31 Jan 2026

Sugar-free presents: Saturdays at your place Https://www.Saturdaysatyourplace.Com/ Https://saturdaysatyourplace.Bandcamp.Com/ \+ guests There’s something kinda magical about naming your band saturdays at your place. Right off the bat, it calls to mind images of collapsing onto a friend’s couch at the end of a long week, and the kind of nights that turn into stories you’ll tell for years to come. For the band from Kalamazoo, Michigan, it’s more than just a name; it’s what’s held them together through college and the strange process of becoming an adult. Whether unpacking tour burnout or the shame of outgrowing your past, they’re constantly rejecting irony in favor of something much bolder: sincerity. On their upcoming second full-length, these things happen (out September 12), saturdays at your place take everything that made their early material resonate-twinkly guitars, heart-on-sleeve songwriting, a distinctly Midwestern ache-and stretch it into something even more resonant. It’s a record about growing up without growing cold, and it’s also a testament to where they’re from, both literally and musically; proof that a band with strong hometown roots can still shake the ground. Oral Habit + School Disco

Oral Habit + School Disco

9 Sept 2025 - 9 Sept 2025

Centred around brotherly duo Charlie and Felix Hales, Oral Habit abide by a simple, yet devastating rock dictum: play it hard, and play it loud. None more so is this exemplified then on new single ‘Sauerkraut'. Co-produced alongside contemporaries School Disco, this 2-minute punk crusade offers a loving ode to volume, to the duo’s core inspirations, and sees Oral Habit barge themselves into the fresh lineage of garage-rock noisemakers turning up amplifiers across the UK.
