The Mojos deal with dark matter, love, life, change and chance with a dash or daring and cheek, a band who as of yet, has not been pigeonholed into any genre. With two albums produced and one in the making, the Mojos have had a share of performing at the many Blues festivals and events that take place year-round across the U.K. and really are a band to be seen, heard and felt to fully appreciate. Having already performed at the London Blues Festival, Endorset and Ealing Blues Festival; as well as iconic venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Green Note, The 100 Club and Gaz's Rockin Blues Club, this new group is already off to a fabulous start. Fundamentally a rock guitarist, his extraordinary playing style touches on blues, country, jazz and folk, blended together into a style that is entirely his own. Hayseed Dixie

Hayseed Dixie

8 Oct 2025 - 8 Oct 2025

Hayseed Dixie began one innocent Summer day in 2000 when John Wheeler and Mike Daly drank roughly enough whiskey to float a battleship from the Florida Coast over to Portugal and back and decided to play around in John’s studio. Having spent the previous few years touring around with assorted country hat-acts, John had assembled a proper pile of recording equipment. Thus when he and Mike discovered in their drunken epiphany that the Lost Highway of Reverend Hank Williams and the Highway to Hell of Bishop Bon Scott were indeed the same identical stretch of tarmac, they were well and truly prepared to document this revelation in situ. Holding up their own idiosyncratic mirror to an unsettled and unsettling 2017, Hayseed Dixie offer up their 15th studio album, a collection of both original songs and reinterpretations of R&B and Soul classics. Dance with them as they probe the queries: “Why do we still believe there is such a thing as race’?” “Are concepts like nations’ and nationality’ really useful to people who lay bricks or perform kidney stone surgeries?” and “Why does every song always sound better with a banjo in the mix?” The boys are seeking after the root core categorical commonality that runs like an eternal golden braid throughout all of humanity. Then they will buy it a drink! Presented by Hot Box Live Community Interest This is an 18+ event

Independence project & Clubs provide a multitude of activities so that people can participate in new experiences and in things that they enjoy. Both organisations share our ethos and always go the extra mile whilst making a difference in their communities, so it’s the perfect match! We are excited and hopeful that we will create a real buzz around these nights. Ultimately enabling people with additional needs the opportunity to let their hair down, meet friends & have a DANCE! This is carried out in a safe environment with staff on hand to support; those attending will enjoy their night with the confidence that there are people around them that are there to help. Our music acts will be showcasing the superb talent within the additional needs community and the DJs providing the entertainment also have additional needs, playing the best in House, UK garage, R&B, Decades, theme nights and Club Classics. We are hopeful to put on many live music events in the future and they will always be run like any other club night, promoting inclusion and diversity, and enabling people to enjoy real life experiences. Dirt Road Band

Dirt Road Band

19 Sept 2025 - 15 Oct 2025

The Dirt Road Band is the brainchild of guitar legend Steve Walwyn, mainly known as the longest serving guitar player in Dr Feelgood (32 years). During this time, he has amassed a massive reputation as a guitar hero in the UK, Europe, and beyond. He says, "I'd always liked the idea of the power trio-stripping everything back to the basics. Guitar, bass, and drums. To help him in this he has recruited the services of drummer Ted Duggan - professional since the 60s, including stints with Badfinger and world techno giants Banco de Gaia. I'd worked with Ted before, Steve says "I knew he would fit the gig perfectly. He certainly does. Bass player Horace Panter is unavailable for this weekend so in his place steps Norman Watt-Roy, one of Britain's best-loved bass players. He is best known today for his work with The Blockheads and Wilko Johnson. Over his long career, however, he has worked with the Clash, Madness, Nick Lowe, The Selecter, Rodger Daltrey, and provided the original bass line for Frankie Goes to Hollywood's smash hit 'Relax'. This then is Steve's dream team rhythm section that swings as hard as it rocks. We have started to develop that musical telepathy that makes a band more than just the sum of its parts. It is a really thrilling time and keeps music alive.'

The Ska Legends The Kubricks are back in Chelmsford after their sold out show in January! Based in London, The Kubricks are a seven-piece band that seamlessly blends ska, reggae, and irresistibly catchy melodic pop. Produced by Toby Davies of Gentleman’s Dub Club, the band’s debut album, ‘The Heist’, dropped in 2017. The UK’s longest-running skazine, Do The Dog, dubbed it, “A very strong contender for album of the year,” while Bucketlist in Canada described it as, “A gem of an album that makes ska and reggae seem like a perfect fit with 21st-century musical trends.” Tom Robinson (6Music) immediately shared the track ‘Down With the Dogs’ with his listeners, and BBC Introducing in Essex invited the band for a live session. After completing two autumn UK tours and securing a publishing deal with Wipe Out Music, The Kubricks unveiled their latest album, ‘Between Antipodes’, in December 2022. Representing their most ska-pop record to date, the album was produced by Tom Donovan, a producer and musician from the hip-hop act Monster Florence. Kungens Man / The Janitors

Kungens Man / The Janitors

20 Sept 2025 - 20 Sept 2025

Kungens Män is a free rock ensemble from Stockholm, Sweden. Active since 2012, the band has released a steady stream of records on labels like Adansonia, Riot Season, Cardinal Fuzz, Majestic Mountain and on their own label Kungens Ljud & Bild. Touring Europe and UK regularly over the years and built an enthusiastic following of music freaks and a strong reputation as a must-see live band. Rooted in improvisation and drone rock with a large emphasis on instant composition, rather than traditional ”jamming”. Intertwined, chiming guitars, free jazz saxophone, punky and funky minimalistic drumming and a low end department with both bass and Moog playing off each other makes a brew that takes the music in many different directions, reminiscent of everything from seventies Miles Davis to Träd, Gräs och Stenar to Sonic Youth to Can. Expect a new album in the fall of 2025. It will come with a great degree of variation and some soundscapes previously unheard in the improvised world of the Swedes. Conjuring heavy drones and sinister garage psych freak outs, Stockholm outfit The Janitors have been a formidable presence on the European underground since they formed back in 2004. Channeling the freewheeling spirit of Hawkwind with equal smatterings of Sabbath and Spacemen 3, the band are masters of taking hold of a gnarly fuzzed out groove and beating it within an inch of its life. Not for the faint of heart, their druggy wig-outs are totally relentless and unforgiving. Presented by Hot Box Live Community Interest This is an 18+ event

Samantics

Samantics

8 Nov 2025 - 8 Nov 2025

‘A Decade of Antics' marks the 10 year anniversary of Samantics: a celebration of the moment when he found the thing to do with his in his life which at last made sense. To earn his slice of the infamous pie he’d tried teaching, graphic designing and being defecated on through a telephone but nothing had helped him understand the struggle of existing, until he created Samantics. Starting with just loop pedal, a ukulele and all the words he could find, he began playing every possible open mic, discovering the thrill and catharsis of performing, from expressing all the things he'd bottled up for so long. Over the next ten years a hobby became a career, developing and fine-tuning what has been increasingly described as one of the most energetic, heartfelt and honest stage shows people have seen. Those ten years have taken him to some of the biggest festivals in the UK, sharing stages and posters with bands and artists he'd grown up listening to and getting support and love from Radio 6's Steve Lamacq. Samantics has even spoken in the Houses of Parliament about the impact creativity can have on mental health. Even politicians listen to him. In these ten amazing years Samantics has made five studio albums, entirely by himself, focusing on his own unique voice, declining offers from labels and investors and relying solely on crowdfunding and backing from fans with each album reaching more and more people as his audience grew, as did his sound... and the dire amount of cables he would come to need. Now, with everything he's learned from his journey and with all the noise making toys he picked up on the way, he is releasing a collection of songs carefully chosen from his earlier albums, all completely re-built and re-recorded from the ground up to create an even more authentic version of the sound and delivery he has become known for today with these songs finally finding their way onto vinyl. For Samantics, to be able to create and perform as a means of survival still blows his mind and he knows it is something he will do for the rest of his life, should the universe be kind enough to allow it. So now's the time to see what 10 years of writing, recording, grinding, performing, driving, touring, perspiring and forming a life worth enduring has created, in Samantics. He's very hard to describe and a lot better live. Presented by Hot Box Live Community Interest This is an 18+ event

The Ugly Guys

The Ugly Guys

11 Oct 2025 - 11 Oct 2025

The Ugly Guys are a UK band that specialises in a brand of music now referred to as Americana. They have had worldwide success with their version of Toby Keith's Dont Let The Old Man In. Their latest album on Conquest Music is a collection of their favourite songs called Cover Your Tracks. Back in the heady days of Pub Rock, a band arrived on the scene that was a little different to most. They had a pedal steel player, and their lead singer seemed to base his look on George Cole's Flash Harry in the St. Trinians movies. The band were, of course, The Kursaal Flyers, and they would go on to become one of the more commercially successful bands on the pub rock circuit, though that success would, ultimately, be their undoing. Though they enjoyed a great reputation as a live act (and, having seen them, it was well deserved), they struggled to transfer that energy to record, and their first two albums, Chocs Away and Great Artiste, didnt sell well. For their third album, The Golden Mile (1976), they turned to Mike Batt as producer, taking them in a more pop-oriented direction, and he gave them their only hit record, a single from the album, called Little Does She Know. Perhaps unfortunately, Batt achieved this success through a completely over-the-top, Phil Spector-style production, which had little in common with the Kursaal's stage sound. It was, it now seems, the kiss of death for the Kursaals and, by 1977, it was all over for a band that had promised so much (though there have been subsequent reunions). Fast forward to 2003 and, out of the ashes of The Kursaal Flyers, we get The Ugly Guys (named from a Kursaal's song). What few people knew at the time was that the Kursaal Flyers started out as a country rock covers band, hence the pedal steel guitar of Vic Collins, and that love of country rock never deserted Collins and lead singer Paul Shuttleworth. In 2003, they formed the band that currently consists of the two ex-Kursaals plus guitarist Steve Oliver (ex-Jerry The Ferret), former Pinkee, Nevil Kiddier, on bass and ex-Mickey Jupp sticksman, Bob Clouter, on drums.
Arliston

Arliston

13 Sept 2025 - 13 Sept 2025

Arliston are poised to become the UK’s unofficial ambassadors of gloom - self-described “sad song specialists”. Their music is concerned with that particularly fraught time of life - the late twenties and early thirties - and all of the confusion that accompanies it. Yet the music itself is far from chaotic. Instead, it is steeped in an inky black pool of sparse but sprawling Americana; minimalist pianos are paired with gloopy synths and singer Jack Ratcliffe’s striking, morose baritone. The songwriting, too, is stark but striking. We hear the faint buzzing of static, monologues, snatches of half-conversations. They are the sounds of someone stumbling and tripping their way through life, offering the listener an opportunity for a kind of melancholy catharsis. Tim Edey

26 Oct 2025 - 12 Feb 2026

Tim Edey is brilliant - in every which way. As a guitarist he has few peers. As a box player he's a magician. As a character he's off the scale. He plays a host of different instruments to a standard us mere mortals can only dream of. Musical genius just doesn't cover it!

Beans on Toast

12 Nov 2025 - 12 Dec 2025

One man and his guitar with songs to sing and stories to tell. Unafraid to tackle the big issues of the day, but doing so with his feet firmly on the ground. He’s an unrelenting optimist who’s songs celebrate all that is wonderful about the human spirit. Folk music is an age old art form and it’s more relevant that ever in these wild and crazy modern times. You can expect a gig that is both inspiring and entertaining, a relaxed and fun affair that leaves you feeling like you've met up with an old friend, and you're all the better for it.
Arizona Acoustic

Arizona Acoustic

20 Nov 2025 - 20 Nov 2025

Some bands are just built to last - and Arizona is one of them. Born back in the 90s, Arizona began like many great rock stories do: with a pub, a pint, and a shared love of music. When Nigel Hobbs (Frozen Heart, Walk The Wire) and Dave Foss (Exhibit A) sat down to talk covers over beers, something just clicked. Add in Kevin Skingley, Chris Patching, and Steve Pierce, and the rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward more than 30 years and Arizona are still going strong - and still doing what they love best: playing a rich mix of classic rock and pop covers that get crowds singing, dancing, and reminiscing. While they’re best known for their high-energy electric sets, the band has also embraced a different side of their sound in recent years: Arizona Acoustic. Stripping things back to the essentials, their acoustic performances offer a more intimate, laid-back vibe - one that’s proven hugely popular with fans and the band alike. You can catch Arizona Acoustic live at The Hot Box on Thursday, 20th November. Expect a night of feel-good favourites, top-notch musicianship, and that unmistakable Arizona chemistry that’s kept them at it for three decades and counting. There will be a book of selected works, & the final showcase event will be part of the 2026 Essex Book Festival. The theme for this leg is Radical Islands. You can pen a poem by yourself or collabrate. If you want to collaborate & have a collaborator then great, if you need to find one then drop [email protected] a line & we'll get the ball rolling. When thinking about the word Island, it can be one of the 35 islands around the Essex coastline, or maybe Mesopotamia Island in Chelmsford. I often think of HOT BOX as one of a few creative Islands in Chelmsford, let your minds wander. This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6-15 November 2025. Krissy Matthews Band

Krissy Matthews Band

2 Nov 2025 - 2 Nov 2025

It was 1995, Krissy was 3 years old and his father invited him on stage to play along to Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. This is when the story started for British Norwegian Krissy Matthews. Now at 28 years old, he has gained a reputation as being one of the most unique guitarists the 21st century has seen, and has gained a wealth of experience that only most musicians could dream of. At 12 years old, Krissy was invited by John Mayall himself to perform 2 songs together, two nights running at Notodden Blues Festival, Norway. The opening act was Peter Green & Friends. A few years later, Krissy became the last person to perform live on stage together with the late great Mr Jeff Healey in the UK, shortly after receiving industry advice from the King of the Blues, Mr BB King. Not a bad beginning for someone so young! Since then he has appeared on national Norwegian breakfast TV 3 times, recorded a live session for BBC Radio 2 Paul Jones Blues Show at Maida Vale Studios (London) and been featured on Nicky Horne's Friday Night Rock Show for Vintage TV. He has recorded and released multiple records and paid his dues constantly performing and touring in clubs, festivals, schools and old people's homes across the world! In 2015, Krissy joined the iconic German outfit Hamburg Blues Band as a permanent featured member where he is still to this day backing legendary artists such as Chris Farlowe, Arthur Brown and Maggie Bell every night. Previous guitar players whom he replaced were Clem Clempson (Humble Pie / Colosseum) and Miller Anderson (Keef Hartley / Spencer Davis). He has performed over 1000 concerts across UK, China, Russia and Europe. Iconic venues such as Museumsplatz (Bonn, DE), Tanzbrunnen (Cologne, DE), Freak Valley (Siegen, DE), Ronnie Scotts (London, UK), The Cavern (Liverpool, UK), Loreley Amthitheater (Loreley, DE), Zwarte Cross (Lichtenvoorde, NL), Festa Avante (Lisbon, PO) and headlining one of Germany's most famous festivals Burg Herzberg in 2018 to 20,000 people together with The Herzburg Blues All Stars are just some of the highlights. In March 2019, he was invited to grace the stage with his trio at the very well known Rockpalast Festival for national German TV company WDR. An accolade and a dream for any musician! This is planned to be released as a live CD/DVD package in Spring 2023 via MIG Music. It has been delayed due to the effects of the Covid19 pandemic. Krissy and his band have previously shared the billing with monster names such as Toto, Gregg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Beth Hart, Jimmie Vaughan, Steven Seagal, Clawfinger and Los Lobos. In March 2019, Krissy released his last studio album Monster in Me via MIG Music. This was produced by Baard Torstensen from Clawfinger and co-written with Baard and Pete Brown. The man once known as the unofficial fourth member of Cream. Pete is the poet behind timeless songs such as Sunshine of Your Love, White Room & Politician. A brand new Krissy Matthews studio record was finished during the pandemic in October 2020, and Krissy signed a great new deal with the legendary German label Ruf Records. This includes 9 songs all written during and about the world Lockdown, and how this personally affected him. This was released on August 27 2021 and has the name "Pizza Man Blues". May 10 2024, sees the brand-new release "Krissy Matthews & Friends", which, after "Pizza Man Blues", is his second album released with Ruf Records. It is a monster album which unites the who's who of the modern blues and rock scene and took Krissy one year to produce! Friends on the album include rap metal giants Clawfinger, the god of hellfire Arthur Brown, the voice Chris Farlowe, Germany's soul queen Inga Rumpf, legendary singer songwriter Stoppok, the iconic Hamburg Blues Band, elite drummers Dennis Chambers & Curt Cress, Blues singing dynamite Big Daddy Wilson and many more. The album includes 24 songs and is almost 3 hours long with a mix of Krissy's original material and his favourite cover songs. "It was a long time in the making and I managed to get it done. I started the pre-production in November 2022 and went in the studio to begin the meat and potatoes process in January 2023. I wanted to get all my favourite musicians together that I have met on the road in my career. They are not all here by any means, but a good handful are! I did not want this album to have a box, so there are many different genres from metal to blues and jazz to rock'n'roll. But in the end, it is a Krissy Matthews record." Krissy continues to endlessly tour with his Hamburg Blues Band and his own solo career.

Heathen Apostles

Heathen Apostles

28 Oct 2025 - 30 Oct 2025

Born of the voices of past lives and baptized in the dust bowl dirt, the Gothic Americana music of the Heathen Apostles harkens back to a bygone chapter of American history. Using contrasting influences such as Bauhaus, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Pogues along with Howlin’ Wolf, Loretta Lynn and Bessie Smith, the Heathen Apostles have created a style of music that at once conjures both angels and demons, and will enlighten a darkened soul. Gothic Americana is a genre that is fast taking hold around the world, in that it combines the sub-genres of gothic country & bluegrass, dark blues, murderfolk and depression-era jazz. The Heathen Apostles are amongst the first to inject all four into their incendiary music.
New Music Wednesdays: Reverie Sons X Two Tree Island
Reverie Sons. Chelmsford needs a new local band to rally behind! After their electrifying SOLD OUT show at HotBox earlier this year, Reverie Sons are gaining serious momentum! Straddling the line between the fierce, melodic guitar riffs of John Mayer, the vibrant pulse of British Indie, & the gritty edge of Rock & Blues, they fuse their influences into a sound that demands attention. With raw vocals and guitar solos that ooze soul and grit, they craft songs that hit home with modern stories, all wrapped in infectious melodies & performances that are unapologetically personal, honest, & with one agenda: to entertain crowds! You can’t box them into a single genre, carving out a unique sound that stands defiantly in its own lane. With something for everyone, Reverie Sons are a fresh force in the music scene that you absolutely can’t afford to miss!' Two Tree Island are a four-piece synth-led rock band based in Thurrock, Essex. Despite being a relatively new project, the band’s members have been working together for over 15 years, with this lineup marking the culmination of their musical journey. Combining the driving force of rock with rich, atmospheric & heavy synths, their sound is a blend of heavy beats, melodic textures, and industrial edges. Influenced by bands like Rammstein, Pendulum, Sleep Token, and Skindred, Two Tree Island bring together a mix of intensity, melody, & electronic elements that sets them apart from the typical rock sound. Wilswood Buoys / Shed / Dean Frost

3 Oct 2025 - 3 Oct 2025

“These guys are not (yet) signed, but they should be, and are definitely ones to watch” - Rock News From Mersea Island in Essex this young, new, and exciting duo, Wilswood Buoys, are currently cutting their name into the UK underground scene. Mixing trad folk, with modern alternative acoustic pop, the band have a sound that’s raw, fresh, familiar, and accessible. Josh and Joe are, like a lot of bands, a couple of mates who from simply getting together for a jam saw things quickly escalate into writing music and playing local gigs. Both had a completely different upbringing in terms of musical styles leading them down a path of intertwined genres worked into one, with a thread of catchy riffs, natural chemistry, and big, bold choruses. 2023 saw them complete their first UK tour with Frank Turner, followed by a support for The Levellers on their acoustic tour. Additionally, they played many festivals including Boomtown Fair and Northern Kin Festival. Frank Turner also produced their acclaimed debut album ‘A New Beginning‘ which was released in January 2023, an album crammed full of barnstorming sing-a-longs ready to unleash on audiences across the UK and beyond! “... melodic, foot-stamping folk” - Americana UK Presented by Hot Box Live Community Interest This is an 18+ event

The Deep Throats

The Deep Throats

19 Dec 2025 - 19 Dec 2025

Formed in Chelmsford in late 1977, The Deep Throats made a big impression on the Essex punk scene, and built up a sizeable following in the local area. In 1978 the classic single "Rock 'n' Roll Discharge" was released on the short lived Limp label. It was the Number One seller in Chelmsford record shops, keeping ABBA at Number Two. It was also favouable reviewed in Melody Maker and NME, and was regularly played by the likes of Mike Read and John Peel. Now it sits near the top of many collector's wants lists and changes hands for a tidy sum. High profile support slots with the likes of The Adverts and The Radio Stars cemented the band's reputation, but unfortunately the band drifted apart in 1980. Brief reformations happened in 1986 and 1989, but fast forward all the way to 2021 and Detour Records decided to release a compilation CD called "We're the Force", containing both sides of the band's single along with a whole host of unreleased material. This renewed interest in the band prompted them to get back together for a sell out gig at London's legendary Hope and Anchor in late 2023.
